the i n s o m n i a meme

It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they?

01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet.
02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops.
03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it.
04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them...
05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort.
06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help?
07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on.
08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them.
09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you.
10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario.

EXCELLENT because I flailed a bit when I saw someone playing her c:

[He turns a page in his book, and at first it's difficult to tell if he's paying attention at all - except for the fact that he's always paying attention.

Carefully marking his pave, Hannibal closes the book, and turns to look up at her, tapping the book against his chest thoughtfully. A small, almost smile pulls briefly at the corner of his mouth, matching her twitch.]

And so, you are awake. What don't you like about the pills?
windchafed: (let go I'm ready for it)

I had to. HAD. TO. and this was such the perfect meme.

They make me feel stupid all day afterwards. Like the worst hangover. I'd rather be awake.

[She leans forward a little, tucking a strand of hair back as it slithers over her shoulder; she isn't sure how she feels about the smile, but she smiles back anyway, a small curve of her mouth, as she looks down at him.

It feels safer looking down at him, even though she knows she'd be cornered up here if he came up the ladder.
]

I found a book about psychopaths at the library yesterday.
youwill: (don't your eyes seek out)

man it really is, HOW COULD I NOT TAG IN

[He doesn't point out that she is too young to drink - though she is - but the smile does fade off again. Looking back down, he sets the book down on his desk before turning up toward her again. He doesn't make for the ladder, not yet. If she wants her space, she'll have it.

For now.]

Not what I would call light reading.
windchafed: (I'm a victim)

FATE. CLEARLY.

[personal profile] windchafed 2013-04-20 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't feeling very light.

[She stands then, goes to the railing, running her hands along the wood before she leans over it.

Part of her mind wants to wonder whether he'd try to catch her if she jumped. She tells it to be quiet.
]

It said they have something wrong with their brains that makes it so they can't feel anything. Not like normal people. They can't be guilty or scared or in love.
youwill: (of each particular thing ask:)

UNDOUBTEDLY

[personal profile] youwill 2013-04-20 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Enormous obligation. He would catch her. Cocking his head, Hannibal turns, pacing to one of the far bookshelves and perusing it while he speaks.]

Antisocial and dissocial personality disorders. Sociopathy. [He plucks a book off a shelf, and holds it up with a glance before setting it on his desk.] More heavy reading, if you would like. [He's protected her, but he doesn't feel the need to treat her as delicately as Dr. Bloom. She's stronger than that.]

What else did you learn?
windchafed: (I'm addicted to the fire)

[personal profile] windchafed 2013-04-20 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
They lie to everyone. All the time. Even when it isn't important. Even when it's obvious they'll get caught. And they take advantage of whoever they can.

[She can tell he's trying to lure her out with the book, but she takes a step towards the ladder anyway, walking her fingers along the railing as she goes.]

The social worker asked if my dad was ever inappropriate with me. That's how she said it. He wasn't, but I don't think she believed me.

[She doesn't particularly want to go back, either, after that first meeting, but she's sure it's going to end up in a file somewhere if she doesn't.

She doesn't like it that she's getting used to the idea of doing everything so that no one will suspect there's anything wrong with her.
]

He wasn't with the other girls either, was he? I saw on Tattlecrime, the one he put back in her bed. They never leave out any details. And he wouldn't have done that, anyway. Even if he was killing them. Especially if he was killing them.

[He exhales lightly, a gesture that might have been a snort in someone else. It's clear enough how he feels about the social worker, if she's paying attention. Her father was not inappropriate with her; Hannibal never would have needed to ask the question. 'Loving, right up until he wasn't.']

No, Abigail. He was not being inappropriate with them.

[He tilts his head just slightly, wonders how often she reads Tattlecrime, if she would find it as useful as he does. She isn't disturbed by the details, not like one might expect her to be. Rather, not like Someone else might expect her to be.]

Do you intend to see your social worker again? [He's well aware of the importance of being perceived as normal. Of blending into any situation. He thinks she does, too, but he'll teach her if she doesn't.]
