[ When Scott called and told Derek he needed him to come back he wanted to ignore him. He wanted to tell Scott he was done with Beacon Hills and that he needed to learn to start handling his own issues, but Scott sounded scared. He sounded scared and that just meant that Derek was going to come running. Scott was his responsibility since Peter wasn't going to. Scott wasn't going to play ball on Peter's side and so that pretty much made Peter throw in the towel when it came to claiming Scott. Derek took responsibility for the kid though and that unfortunately meant keeping him safe. Not to mention that Isaac was there and he was his responsibility due to being the one who made him. He told Ruby he needed to handle some family shit and promised he'd be back. He didn't leave much room for discussion over the subject. He didn't want her wanting to come in case things went south. So Derek left Storybrooke behind.

Apparently Chris Argent was being quite the busy guy in Derek's absence. Not that Derek's presence had ever kept him at bay, but without an Alpha in the territory it probably gave him the confidence boost he needed when it came to werewolf execution. He figured that as long as Scott kept his nose clean then the man would stay away from him. With Derek gone it would give him less motivation to hurt Scott. Apparently two new wolves breezed into town and war erupted without a second thought. It took the death of three hunters, one of the new wolves and Isaac before the groups went back to their corners. The lone wolf left town and Chris stood town in an effort to keep Beacon Hills from making the news. They buried their dead and parted. That meant Derek could finally leave once more.

He never thought in a million years he'd actually find some place he'd want to return to, but he liked Storybrooke. The people were decent and he enjoyed Ruby's company. She understood what it was like to be something else deep down inside. It didn't define you, but it was there. Derek felt like he belonged around here and it was a good feeling.

Granny was the one to greet him and give him a slap. She looked him up and down before nodding quietly. The slap was her way of telling him he was an idiot and Derek understood. He just smiled and slid past her to head to Ruby's room. Derek knocked quietly and ran his hand over his bruised eye. Everything else had pretty much healed, but this was still on it's way. ]
