[ That's another weird thing about Aki; he listens to Angel when he talks, instead of just ignoring him. Even if most of the talking consists of complaints.

The inside of the apartment... well, it reflects the sort of person Aki is. Simply decorated, minimalist. It's a lot like his desk, where Angel's is a mess of papers and pens and candy wrappers.

It's honestly a little boring, but Angel isn't here for interior dΓ©cor tips. He's here for... other stuff. Like watching Aki shrug out of his jacket. He tells Angel to get comfortable, and he tries to figure out what exactly that looks like. He doesn't get invited over to people's places a lot.

Well, he'll start with his shoes.]

Do you have juice? Or something sweet.

[ Aki listens because... well, he doesn't really know why, honestly. It's rude not to. Besides, even if Angel mostly just complains, at least he has a nice voice.

Thinking about it now, Aki realizes he doesn't really like talking to most of his other coworkers. Their lives always seem so small: kids, errands, whatever terrible TV show they're bingewatching at the moment. Angel doesn't talk about any of that; he doesn't talk much about himself at all. Maybe that's what Aki likes. It never feels like Angel expects him to care, so when he does it's a big deal.

Stepping out of his own shoes, he tucks them neatly in the corner of the genkan before heading for the kitchen. ]

Yeah. Orange juice okay?

[ Orange juice isn't Angel's favorite, but it's passable. He's at least not rude enough to complain just yet. ]

Yeah, that's fine.

[ He places his shoes next to Aki's, though they're a bit more askew than how neatly the others are tucked away. At least Angel is polite enough to observe normal etiquette like anyone else.

Small talk, though. What are they even supposed to discuss? It's not like Angel can ask him how work is when they work right next to each other. ]

It's... tidy. [ Whether or not Aki takes that as a compliment is his own issue. ]

Mm. [ Aki hums in acknowledgement-slash-thanks at the comment, not feeling as though it's enough to warrant a full response. He's not great at small talk either, though that's never really bothered him; he always focuses on what needs to get done instead, and random words spoken just to fill the silence have always seemed unimportant to him. ]

Thanks for coming over, [ he adds, almost without thought, as he goes about grabbing cups and opening the fridge to grab a container of orange juice. The comment hangs in the air for a long moment, and while he fills the cups Aki momentarily wonders why, exactly, he thought this was a good idea. What does he even want from Angel?

Honestly, it had just been a whim, inviting him. He'd seemed sad that day, more than usual, and even if it was just Aki imagining things he figured there was no harm in extending the invite. ]

[ Weird. Angel has never been thanked for coming over before. ]

Thanks for having me. [ An automatic, polite response. It feels stiff for someone like Angel, who doesn't really give a shit about being polite in the first place.

And if it had been anyone else--or like, someone Angel didn't have a physical interest in--he'd definitely have passed. But even if they don't do anything, Angel is interested enough in Aki, oddly enough, that he still kind of wants to be here. ]

It's kind of hard to tell anything about you looking at your apartment, though. I'm not going to be able to get dirt on you like this.

[ Hopefully, Aki will take that deadpan delivery as the joke it's meant to be. ]

[ Aki returns with the juice and one raised eyebrow, staring down at Angel with a totally neutral expression for a long moment. It seems as though he's taking it literally, until -- ]

Is that why you said yes?

[ -- a mischievous grin tugs at his lips, and his eyes light up just a little. To anyone else it would seem completely normal, but Angel probably knows Aki well enough to recognize that he doesn't smile much, and when he does, it's because he's genuinely pleased. ]

[ Aki doesn't smile a lot; Angel thinks he's only seen it a handful of times, subtle enough that most people wouldn't notice. It's. Well, he doesn't hate it. ]

You got me. I wanted to blackmail you.

[ He holds out his hand for the juice, and the awkward atmosphere breaks a little. For someone to get along with a person as weird as Angel, they probably have to be kind of weird themselves. ]
chainletter: (office)

just realized literally none of my icons have aki smiling in them

[personal profile] chainletter 2023-03-05 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ A chuckle rises in Aki's throat as he passes a cup to Angel, and that smile stays on his face a while longer. This is the sort of humour he enjoys - something more playful and teasing than the distasteful jokes most of their coworkers tend to laugh at. ]

C'mon, let's sit on the couch.

[ He nods towards the living room before leading the way, his movements as smooth and confident as ever. A part of him knows that sitting together means they'll be close, and that will suggest certain things to Angel, but Aki chooses not to think too deeply about it.

Better to just... go with the flow, right? ]
