You wake up somewhere...strange. You don't remember the previous night. In fact, you may not recognize what's going on at all.

Also, you're sharing the bed with someone else. You may not recognize them. You probably don't. They may not be your preferred gender or species. It doesn't matter, because you have matching rings on your fingers - or whatever you have that approximates a finger - that can mean only one thing.

You got married!
How to Play:
Make a top-level with character and canon, preferences, all that jazz.
Tag others.
You're now married. Congrats? Or here's a map to the courthouse, if you wanna get that annulled. Expect you'll have to untangle yourself from your spouse and figure out what the hell just happened.

Barton.

[You know, alcohol was probably involved. Like, a lot. Amelia Steinbeck can get hella drunk, who knew? She knew she shouldn't have let down her guard and try to loosen it up with fellow Lost Souls (well, that status is moot, they get to come and go into hell city as they please). The afterlife is as wild and hedonistic as ever and one thing led to another so when the witch woke up with a raging hangover and several papers strewn across the table...]

It was good to be married to you for... what, 24 hours?

[A huge coffee mug hovers over her lips so she can take a big gulp of a steaming hot brew.]

Still, I think I'll have to become an ex-wife.

amelia is, outwardly, definitely handling this much better than barton, and he's not sure if that makes this better or worse. barton looks fairly worse for wear: his hair a mess, bags evident beneath his eyes, and his expression just a bit tight in evidence of his own headache. ]

[ his mouth falls open as he stares at the paperwork scattered across the table, his gaze locking onto the certificate of marriage. the volume of his own voice sends another surge of pain through his head, actually. ]

—the hell did we end up married?!

Well, it all started with someone wanting to have a drinking contest.

[Amelia has repeatedly rejected Barton's advances... for a fight. She won't reject alcohol apparently but look where it's landed them.

Besides the obvious aftermath that they're dealing with, Amelia does outwardly look better than Barton; her red hair has been brushed until it is smooth and sleek, and her clothing, though it's the same from last night, is without a wrinkle.

She drains her coffee until it's nearly gone, a good indication that she's been suffering still.]

Unfortunately, as the night wore on, your enthusiasm became infectious and while I don't know who suggested it, we both decided to get married, at least on paper.

There may have been an oni priest involved. He was very tall and his robes didn't fit.

How else do people get married...?

[ muttered to himself (also known as there would be heart involved, barton, not just a piece of official government paper. there is no marriage of the souls here). barton eyes her, appearing both almost a little miffed and impressed that she should look so put-together; he extracts some twine from a pocket, tying up his long locks with a grimace. ]

Well, do they do divorces here? Aah, it would be just like hell to have people stuck in a loveless marriages for eternity.

What can be tied up can be untied. So yes, I think we should be able to undo this easily.

[She looks pointedly at Barton when he makes his remark about loveless marriages.]

If it's any consolation, though I have never been married, I believe I'd be a rather loving companion.

[... Or so she says with all the affection of drywall.]

[ with all the affection of drywall, indeed... and, yet, barton can believe it. he looks like he might laugh a moment, in some sardonic way, but suppresses that for now. ]

... Same. [ as to whether he agrees with her, or whether he thinks similarly of himself, he doesn't clarify. ] But, hey, maybe you'll meet the right person eventually.

[ he props a hand to his hip, tipping his head at her pointedly. ]

So? How do we gotta go about this?

Well, firstly, if it's the paperwork we can find it at the Enma offices.

[Amelia stands up, smoothing out her skirt with one and putting the empty coffee mug in the sink for someone else to clean up later.]

So let's just go there and shakedown whatever administrator is in charge of processing those documents.

[Say what you want about Amelia, sometimes she just gets down to business.]

... Think I got an idea of that, yeah.

[ if it's the enma offices, considering its mountains of paperwork and bureaucratic tendencies, he should be familiar with that. and not just because the department's style is vaguely reminiscent of illumina. ]

[ he watches her dump the mug in the sink. and then he's making a beeline for the coffee maker himself. ]

Hold up. I gotta get myself a cup of coffee, too!
