The Time Travel Meme

The Time Travel Meme

Have you ever wanted your characters to go see the dinosaurs, or be part of the Time Patrol, or go find their True Love in a different era? Or maybe play out the Back To The Future scenario, and have to go and save their parent's marriage? Here is your chance!

[How To]

1. Post as your character. (Please write down the name and canon/fandom of the character in the subject line, and also if they're canon, AU, crossover or OC, etc. Please also write down preferences, scenarios, etc in the comment box)

2. Another character tags yours. Congrats, now your character is either time traveling, or dealing with a time traveler! (Having both characters be time travelers is fine, too.)

3. Thread, tag and have fun!

[How The Multiverse Works]

1. Time Paradox What Time Paradox? : It's impossible to change history, the only thing that would happen if you went and killed your grandfather is that a new Timeline in which your grandfather was killed would branch off from the original one. The good thing - You can't mess your own Timeline's history up, while you can try to create new Timelines in which things go more to your liking. On the other hand, you can't fix your own history, either.

2. Yes, You Can Change History : And if you mess things up, things wouldn't be pretty.

3. Something Else

[Sample Scenarios]

1. To Make Right What Once Went Wrong - At a certain point in their past, things went really wrong for them. Can they make things better, this time around?

2. The Road Not Traveled - Now they have a chance to do something different, and steer their lives, and maybe the world, along a different path...

3. Saving The World - The world was heading toward hell in a handbasket in their 'previous life'. Can they make things better, this time around?

4. We Just Wanna Get Rich, Man - They just want to use their 'future knowledge' to make a ton of money, and/or get popular and famous, etc, etc.

5. We Are The Time Tourists - So you want to go see the dinosaurs, or the mammoths, or any other historical event? The choices are endless...

6. We Are The Time Patrol - And we don't want unauthorized people muckling around with the timelines, either!

7. On To The Future - Never mind going to the past, we want to go to the future. Those descendants of ours had better not mucked everything up...

8. Honey, I Think I Broke History - You went back into the past, and history changed - and not in the ways you'd consider good. What do you do now?

9. Time Travel Romance - Finding True Love, via Time Travel.

10. We Just Invented A Time Machine - And now we want to try it out. Please forgive us if we break the universe by mistake, OK?

11. Something Else

"I'm afraid it's not nearly as impressive," Lyall answered apologetically, starting to roll the heavy modulator after her. It probably wouldn't have gone, but for werewolf strength. At least he didn't have to worry about that. "Professor Randolph Lyall. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. I would offer you a proper leg but, well...."

They were both a bit occupied, at the moment.

After checking out the back door to make sure the alley was clear, she motioned him to bring the box forward.

"Evie O'Neill, your savior for the evening. And don't worry about the leg. I'm sure I can cook up plenty of ways for you to pay me back for my generous help."
professorwolf: (doubtful)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2013-04-24 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course she could. Lyall refrained from a sigh only with great effort of will as he pushed the box out, and very carefully eased it down the back step, so the instruments inside wouldn't be jostled. It probably looked pretty strange, a man of his size levering against the large booth-like box.

"Are you staying here, at this hotel?" At least he recognized the sort of place, even if the decor was... well, rather garish. Where in the world was he, exactly? America somewhere, he was sure, but beyond that, he could only guess.

"Sure am! I live with my uncle and his assistant. But they're not the type to go out and have any fun, which is why I have to go find it on my own."

Evie led him to the stack of crates that came from the hotel's kitchen.

"Here's the spot. So what are you doing? Trying to find the match to this one? Like losing a glove, isn't it?"
professorwolf: (dubious)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2013-04-25 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"More like losing a very expensive and experimental piece of machinery," Lyall corrected dryly, easing the modulator around behind the crates, as much as possible. "It's entirely possible that whoever took it has no idea what they're doing, much less how to get home, and could be in some danger. Or if not danger, at the very least trouble." Because he was going to be very upset with them.

He dusted his hands off a little, eying the "hiding place" with some misgivings, but it was likely the best they could manage. "Thank you, miss O'Niel. I appreciate the help."

[personal profile] positutely 2013-04-25 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Evie was intrigued. Experimental machinery and a person's life in danger? Well, now Evie just had to get involved, didn't she?

"Gee whiz, that is pos-i-tute-ly terrible! How are you going to look for them? Can I help?"

Lyall paused. He eyed her speculatively. This time was unfamiliar to him, and he had no contacts here, much less familiarity with the city in question. She might be useful. He had no idea if he could trust her, but he didn't really have a lot of options, here.

" ... if you swear to keep anything you learn a secret. I am not likely to be well-received here, and I would prefer to keep a low profile."

If she promised, and he thought she seemed sincere, he'd tell her how he was tracking the thing. Only then.

Evie drew a fingertip above her heart in a X-shape and nodded.

"Cross my heart, hope to die. Stick a needle in my eye," she promised, looking serious yet eager at being included in this scheme.

"Why wouldn't you be well-received? Because you're English?" As far as Evie knew, Americans liked the Brits, because they owed a lot in war debts or something. But she figured it was the least they could do when people like her brother had given their lives in the fields of France.

Evie obviously had a limited worldview, that usually came down to how things related to her in some fashion.

[personal profile] professorwolf 2013-05-02 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah. Well, that would be part of it, yes. The other part being my supernatural nature." As far as Lyall was aware, the Americas were about as welcoming to vampires and werewolves as Italy was, albeit a little less organized about it.

He had considered not telling her, of course. But it would become obvious quickly should they actually work together for any length of time, he was sure.

[personal profile] positutely 2013-05-02 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
He probably caught the shift in Evie's face when he said he was supernatural. First there was surprise, then excitement, intrigue, and finally a guarded look, all in rapid succession. Looking around them to make sure they were truly still alone, she then asked, "Supernatural how?"
professorwolf: (confused)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2013-05-02 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Cocking his head at her, taking in that range of expression, Lyall answered clearly enough: "I am a werewolf, miss O'Neil. The Beta of the London pack, to be precise. I know werewolves are not well thought of in America, so that, I suppose, is another thing I will have to hope you can keep to yourself."
positutely: (faceless ☇ sheba)

[personal profile] positutely 2013-05-03 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh." To be honest, she was a bit disappointed. There had been the hope that maybe he was like her, but no, she had to walk that road alone.

"Werewolves aren't thought of at all, outside of stories."
professorwolf: (specs-smart)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2013-05-03 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really?" Lyall blinked at her in a mild expression of a more powerful inner surprise. Even in America, werewolves weren't legends. They were devil-worshippers, generally, but definitely not legends. So either this girl was terribly sheltered, he'd gone further in time than he thought, or... something very strange was happening here. "That's odd-- what about vampires?"

[personal profile] positutely 2013-05-05 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Evie gave a soft laugh and shook her head.

"Only in films like Nosferatu."

Though she found it funny, that these creatures were apparently real where he was from. Not impossible, not strange, just... funny.

"I've got a secret too, but you have to promise to keep your lips sealed. You promise?"
professorwolf: (curious)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2013-05-07 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Considering all I've asked you not to tell, I cannot very well go and say I won't tell yours." He had to admit he was curious just what kind of "supernatural" she might be used to, if vampires and werewolves weren't familiar to her. If it had anything to do with her "secret", well, he was happy to promise not to share with anyone. "So yes, I promise."
positutely: (excited ☇ hot socks)

[personal profile] positutely 2013-05-07 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Excited, Evie lowered her voice and said, "I'm a Diviner. It means I can read personal objects and tell you where you've been, what you've thought, what you did. It's a neat party trick, but I want to use it on a case my Uncle's working on right now. He doesn't want me to, though."

And that was annoying her at the moment. Maybe in the meantime she could help this werewolf with his case.

"You wouldn't happen to have anything of the person you're looking for, do you?"
professorwolf: (confused)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2013-05-08 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Brows went up. It was something Lyall had read about, certainly, but only as a myth or, more often, a sham. Still, she didn't seem like she was lying-- and he was relatively good, by now, and smelling out a liar. It wouldn't hurt to at least play along. "I'm afraid not. I'm not even entirely certain who is the culprit. But perhaps you can learn something from the device itself?"

He was certainly curious what her talent would look like in action, and she could probably get something, if it were a true gift, even if it wasn't necessarily useful for finding the other.

"This?" she asked, gesturing to the machine he'd just wheeled out. "Golly, I've never tried it on anything so big before. Usually it's just a watch or a glove or something." She drew in a deep breath, however, not about to back down from a challenge.

"But I'll try. As long as this thing has one owner, I should be able to see things."
professorwolf: (dubious)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2013-05-09 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Lyall stepped back from it to give her room, just in case she needed clear air, or somesuch. He really only knew how such things worked as a guess, something about lingering aether imprints or something similar. "It has an owner, certainly: its creator. Said owner was simply incapacitated and thus had to leave the hunting to me, I'm afraid."

((the owner being a French woman by the name of Geneveive Lefoux who likes dressing as a man and kissing ladies, but likes tinkering and inventing even more. feel free to make up something about the thief bashing her over the head while she was working on this machine, or somesuch, if you wanna help the meme-time-plot along? XD ))

"Well, here goes." Evie set her hand on the machine and closed her eyes, focusing intently on it, hoping it would give up its secrets. After a moment of nothing happening, she set her other hand on it too, and concentrated with all her might. Finally images flashed in her mind: a young man, no, a woman, building the machine. A name appeared in Evie's head: Genevieve Lefoux. There was the smell of oil in the air and the sound of machinery around her. The woman was pleased with her contraption and excited to try it out. The scene skipped ahead to her putting the finishing touches on it. Then then was movement off to Genevieve's right and an arm came down, bashing something into her head.

Evie gasped, letting her hands fall away.

"She got knocked out," she said, putting a hand up to her head in the place she'd been struck. "I couldn't see much, just a tan glove and a brown jacket sleeve. Sorry."
