This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them... Still, things can change. You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection. Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love. Will you acknowledge this? POSSIBLE REASONS FOR MARRIAGE: ① Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you. ② Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families. ③ Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down. ④ Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable. ⑤ Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war. ⑥ Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection. ⑦ Disapproval → Your marriage has been arranged to keep you away from the person with whom you truly wish to be. POSSIBLE SCENARIOS: ① First meeting → This is the very first time you're meeting your future spouse. ② Courtship → To get to know each other and encourage affection, your family has approved of you going on dates. ③ Engagement party → Be it a huge, formal affair or a small, intimate get together, you're celebrating (or pretending). ④ Wedding day → The big day! ⑤ Reception → The big party! ⑥ Wedding night → Every meme needs a smut prompt, right? ⑦ Honeymoon → Where will you go with your new spouse and what will you do there?

[To be honest, Allura isn't sure about this engagement... and neither is Alfor. All he wanted was to invite the Wyvernwinds to Altea, start some friendly negotiations, and now the rulers of the Silken Squall are foisting their youngest son onto his daughter? It's... weird, but they're insisting and Alfor really needs to shore up alliances for the war he feels his brewing, so... he agrees to see if they like each other first. He and Melenor aren't going to force their daughter to marry an asshole.

The question is... now what? Allura's never had a serious relationship before, just crushes as a child, and now she has to woo this random not-prince, for the sake of negotiations? So the first few days she acts awkward, maybe even unintentionally cold. So it might surprise him that a few days into his stay, he'll hear a knock on the door. And if he opens it, there's Allura, standing stiffly and fidgeting with the handle of a large picnic basket.]

[ this was quite an unthinkable situation, and one against which Gilgamesh should naturally revolt.

Gilgamesh was the hero-king, the untamed ruler of Uruk -- like a bull who tramples others under his feet, as his legend would describe him. the gods had created him to be the linchpin between themselves and mortals, but the King of Heroes had become a rebellious figure, staging a revolt against the deities of his homeland. for that reason, said deities had sent Enkidu, the chain of heaven and the one who would become his (only) Friend.

Enkidu was an equal to Gilgamesh, the one being capable of opposing him on the same level. their abilities were a perfect complement to one another, such that -- at the end of their battle -- Enkidu's clay was all but depleted, and Gilgamesh was given over to exhaustion in a manner quite uncharacteristic for him.

this event became the foundation for their friendship.

of course, this outcome had not exactly been the one desired by the gods -- as the demi-god and his new friend had gone on to, so to speak, enable one another in acts such as the slaying of Humbaba and all the events which led up to the next slaying, that of the Bull of Heaven, a divine being with special ties to the higher pantheon.

it was for this reason that Gilgamesh now finds himself in his present, untenable situation: the gods, angered by the loss of the Bull and by Gilgamesh's and Enkidu's actions, had demanded some form of penance. their first demands had been flesh and blood, either that of the King of Heroes or his friend, but Gilgamesh's mother -- herself a goddess, Ninsun -- had intervened on his behalf, pleading for their lives that some other condition might satisfy the gods of Uruk. since the original issue which had sparked the conflict was a deflected marriage proposal, the gods had ruled that a marriage, rather than the offering of a life, might satisfy the conditions of purging Gilgamesh's wrongdoing in their eyes. well, somewhat. at least it would satisfy them enough that he and his friend might continue their lives.

Ishtar remained out of the question. to raise that proposal again was to risk restarting everything anew, this time perhaps with a tragic end which might not be averted.

but it happened that the goddess of war had a sister -- a goddess who, by some standards, was even more dreaded in what she represented. though said sister's vows had long been to Kur and to the souls of the dead, the gods had been tempted by the idea of a union between Kur and the world above, Uruk and its riches.

thus, the present outcome: staged matrimony between the Queen of Kur and the King of Uruk, that their parents might be satisfied of an impending peace and that Gilgamesh's rebellion might be somewhat placated lest he continue to cause too many problems.

suffice it to say, both parties had Opinions on this that were Not Particularly In Favor. ]
