[ signs of decay are felt before seen in hunting dogs, and the slowing down occurs one morning when tetcho's fingers are wrapping around a cup of tea and he drops it. not entirely unexpected, it's been a month since his last surgery and there are no plans to go in for maintenance. tetcho isn't worthy of being a hunting dog after his actions contributed to the near end of the world.

this is his punishment for his misjudgement, and he hopes at least by doing this: leaving the military, leaving this world, he may atone for that. once the decay process starts it won't be long and it really isn't a very pretty thing to witness.

that's why when the signs begin he visits the ada building. he's looking for kenji, and after learning he is not in, tetcho opts to sit dejectedly in the cafe below with a soy sauce latte.

It's like waking up to find he's back in a repeating dream. Rogers escapes, he hunts him down and brings him back, the lab geeks get a few days or weeks more to poke at their favorite lab rat until they poke too much and he flips tables. Lather, rinse, repeat.

At first, Kane enjoyed the hunts. They gave him a way to punish at least one of his creators, the man who had doomed him to become Hydra's fist when he had saved his own best friend from that fate. Like a feral animal caught in a trap, if he couldn't save himself he could at least lash out at someone's hand.

Over and over again they've gone through this chase, but each time brings him less and less satisfaction. He wants so much to hold onto his fate for this man, the person currently bound and slung over one of his broad shoulders like a sack of potatoes, but the weight of that muscular frame against him is oddly enough almost familiar now.

The moon hangs full and heavy in the clear, midnight sky as they emerge into a clearing they've come to before. There's an underground bunker out here, handy for those times when his quarry makes it too far to be brought back to base in a single night. The bunker's camouflaged entrance is visible and he squares his shoulders at the sight of it. The handlers will come for them, but not for a few hours at least. Until then, it'll just be the two of them.
