Arranged Marriage To have and to hold, you said, till death do us part, all while the sharp, swinging pendulum of obligation hung overhead. But how could you have truly meant those words? This union has been tainted from the start, forever bearing the chains of an arranged marriage. It would be understandable if you couldn't bear to look at your new life partner, eternal reminder of your stolen future that they are, much less like them. Much less love them...
Still, things can change.
You could realize that they are in the same boat as you or, that when compared to others around you, they are the lesser of evils. Perhaps you even open up to the idea of a friendship; at the very least, an alliance may be in order to become a power couple in a perilous world. From that innocent decision or sense of self-preservation, a new feelings sparks. Something like affection.
Something, you realize in the wake of speeding heartbeats, like love.
Will you acknowledge this? Can the two of you have a happily ever after - happier than if you'd met in another fashion - or will you hold firm in your distaste?how to play.- Everybody loves "couples forged by less-than-ideal circumstances" tropes! - Comment with your character, prefs, all that good stuff. - Reply to others. - IDEC where you set your threads, it's wide open. Fantasy world with hairy hobbits, old-timey lands, future AUs, do a space marriage for all I care. I'm sure they're still getting married in Star Wars or whatever.

"Ni'duraa! Ni'll pel'gam gar, ruug'la jag!"
The screaming didn't do her any good, but it did make her feel better. Same with emptying her blaster into his armour. When she ran out of blaster charge, she threw several knives at him. She put a couple of new dents into his beskar, but little damage. And his words, damn his words and his reasoning.
"The First Order has us by the gett'se, Mirta. I don't like it any more than you do, but-" And he'd been damn right. Only thing that saved him from being declared dar'buir was that he was fucking right. "They're talking alliance, sealed the old fashioned way. The clans won't hold by it for long, but.... It will buy us time."
One of the things that made Boba Fett such a good Mand'alor was his ability to be damn fucking right, even when the other person didn't want him to be. Which is how Mirta ended up here, walking through the halls of a First Order cruiser, on her way for her first meeting with her future husband.

hostageward in asgard. as granddaughter of laufey, the last jotunn king, she's technically princess and heir to jotunheim, though with the world under aesir control any marriage will only be to further odin's conquest. she doesn't actually look half-dead until her banishment, but, hey, anyone she marries while locked up in the underworld gets to be king of the dead? and the prophecies say that someday, at ragnarok, the dead will make quite an army...here for pantheon mashups, multiversal weirdness, and shenanigans with canon characters, AUs and other OCs! ]
Soooooo we kind of decided to start at the waaaaay beginning
What had confused Hodr ever further was that he was settled next to his brother at thr head table. Normally Odin never really acknowledged his place here with the family, normally he was free to sink into the background among his other brothers, forgotten and free to slip away once festivities got in full swing. He’s dressed how Odin likes him dressed when he’s acknowledged too, ice and silver to his brother’s sun and gold. Twins but opposite.
What he’s suddenly aware of as the doors open and Loki and Geiravor finally make their entrance is that he matches the blonde that enters the room. Some might think she’s dressed as such in ice and silver and pale blues because of her status in Jotunheim, Princess. But even some of the detail work on the clothes he’d been told to wear look similar. They’re definitely matching in more than color scheme if people look close enough.
Odin stands at the head of the table with their entrance and the room falls into a hushed quiet, all eyes bouncing between the two families. “Brother. It warms my heart to offfer your daughter, Princess of Jotunheim, a place in my house.” There’s a beat as he stretches his hand out toward Hodr, who’s also now aware that the seat to his right is empty, while the seat to Odin’s left is also empty. Splitting up thr pair that have entered, “And joining our families. Your daughter to my son, Hodr.”
Hodr’s eyes are on the blonde at the announcement, unsure what his father was doing - because no one had told him this wasn’t merely a welcome festival. That he would suddenly be betrothed before his brother. From the look on Loki’s face, he hadn’t expected this either.

The betrothal comes within the next few years. This, too, is an attempt at grasping power, this time within the confines of the Small Council. (Larys has no doubt that Otto thinks of it, to a degree, as a waste, to marry his daughter to House Strong's crippled son — Alicent is lovely, well-liked, a prize in anyone's eyes, all traits that Larys lacks.) To link House Strong with House Hightower is to gain another arm of influence, likely one more often leveraged in House Hightower's favor given the imbalance at play.
He cannot imagine Alicent to be happy with the match, but he knows well how loathe she is to defy her father, and he is, for all his flaws, not an inherently cruel man.
(Granted, that does not mean he is not capable of cruelty at all.)
In truth, he had never expected marriage to be in his future, at least not for some time (until he had secured some sort of higher position). Nor had it been much of a priority — the idea of a family did little to warm his heart, and what charm a wife could offer seemed unnecessary, at best, and a burden at worst, not just for him but for his would-be bride. After all, he harbors no illusions as to his current place in the court, as to how people regard him. (The first thing to be afforded to any wife of his would be pity.)
It is with that thought in mind that he seeks her out in the godswood a few days before they are due to be wed, though he takes care to make their crossing seem happenstance. ]
Lady Alicent, [ he says, as he approaches. ] I don't suppose you would have a moment?

roose bolton, a song of ice & fire.

My marriage proposal has been accepted, Littlfinger said to her when she inquired about the raven scroll the maester had given him. Not privy to the details of the proposal, she assumed it was for him, but the truth was it was for her. Betrothing his daughter — or rather, Sansa Stark to the newly widowed Warden of the North would solidify both Lords' holds on the North by making her Wardeness and putting a Stark in Winterfell once more.
So, perhaps one of Littlefinger's men brought the untimely end to Walda Frey's life to ensure this happened through poison while supping.
Her stomach twisted and turned as they made their way from high atop the Eyrie in the Vale to Moat Cailin in the Neck; it was here that she realized the proposal was for her and not him. The Boltons have Winterfell. Anger and betrayal surged through her as she tried to talk Lord Baelish out of marrying her to Lord Bolton. He killed her brother, betrayed her family, served the Lannisters, and Winterfell was no longer her home.
Your place is in the North, he tried to reassure her, but she continued to spiral in despair.
He is a traitor. A murderer!
It took everything within her to fight back the tears that wanted to come. She would rather starve herself and die before allowing Lord Baelish to betroth her to such a man. There was promise that he wouldn't force her to do anything she didn't want to do, but she understood that she also had no choice — she had to go through with this; there were no other options ( there was still the possibility of Alayne marrying Harry the Heir, but she understood this was the best course of action ) and, as Lord Baelish said, she needed to stop running and stop being a bystander.
This is her chance to avenge them.
By the time they arrive in Winterfell, Sansa's body aches from the long ride, but it does not stop her from presenting Lord Bolton, her husband-to-be, with a smile ( reminiscent of the one Lord Baelish has, one that never quite reaches his eyes ) and curtsy upon their introduction.
I am stronger within the walls of Winterfell, she reminds herself and already feels the difference in her body, and deep within her bones once she is alone in her chambers. With the water her maidservant brings Sansa bathes, removing the sweat and dirt from the long journey — even going as far as to wash her hair, the chestnut dye turning the water dark and murky. The fiery auburn of her natural hair begins shining through in the firelight as she brushes and braids her hair once it is dry.
Eager to explore her home once more, Sansa begins wandering the familiar halls, eventually rounding a corner to the battlements, and stops upon seeing Lord Bolton standing in the doorway. )
My lord, ( she says hastily with a bow before moving aside, Tully-blue eyes flitting from him to behind him, and fighting the urge to peer behind her as she realizes this is her first time alone with her betrothed. Clasping her hands together, she squeezes her fingers, hoping he will pass and she will have access to freedom beyond. )
