It doesn't matter why, but you're either in the middle of making out with someone or you're about it. Pretty hot and heavy, too. Who knows how you got there -- that's mostly up to you. All you know is that you're not going to feel satisfied until you're flushed and barely breathing.

LOCATIONS:

01. roof: maybe you were given a note, or were dragged up by the person you're currently macking on. either way, you're definitely on the rooftop of some building, away from prying eyes.

02. school/office: you might be at the office, or maybe you just finished your last class for the day; regardless of where you might be, it sure isn't a good place to be making out with someone-- oops.

03. movie theater: the go-to place for most makeouts. sitting in the back or off to the side; just make sure no one catches you!

04. backstage: maybe you won tickets to a concert, perhaps you performed or they did, maybe you even snuck in! but you're backstage somewhere for something, getting hot and heavy in the dark corners.

05. public: out for a walk, having a picnic, maybe you're swimming! but regardless of where you are, it's in public.

06. home: whether you're are at your house, theirs, or someone elses, you're getting down and naughty inside a home of some design.

( so, asking Nancy on a movie date has all sorts of opportunities to go wrong. that he petulantly watched Tommy Hagan spray-paint her perceived sexual indiscretions being one. their noted skewed interest in genres being another. just, dating, again, when they're only slightly past the strange limbo of more than just friends but she Nancy got out of a long-term, long-distance relationship. and dating, again, when they have a history and it's not without complications even outside of faceless monsters from the Upside Down.

and yet, here they are. the teller handing out tickets gave him the stink-eye when he was fishing the cash out of his wallet like he remembers him from scrubbing at spraypaint off the marquee for an hour and a half straight two years ago. probably he does, because Hawkins is painfully unchanging and Steve's face looked like well minced hamburger at the time. Nancy pays for the snacks because she insists on going Dutch. popcorn and peppermints and an Icee of all things, which Steve finds adorable (is it adorable? or does Nancy just get cute points for anything, now?). they're watching Critters, which is the most ridiculous thing they possibly could have picked. it's... okay. as movies go.

he doesn't quite remember why they went from being reasonable movie-goers to going hot and heavy, Nancy's kisses sweet and sticky and cherry-flavored, with cheesy alien chittering going on in the background. it had something to do with Nancy leaning her head on his arm and her fingertips idly slinking up his forearm. there was some finger twining, maybe. there had to have been something between relatively harmless wandering fingers to where they are now, but exactly what it was has gotten pretty blurry at this point. Steve keeps waiting for Nancy to be the reasonable one, push him back into his own space. pair it with a huff of a laugh, maybe something about what about the movie or people can see and he would at least make an effort to try and watch the rest of the movie without thinking about the wicked run of Nancy's tongue along his lower lip.

only she isn't pushing him away and he isn't quite ready to stop kissing her, either, and something is exploding onscreen anyway so nobody is going to hear anything if his fingers grip in her hair and he samples the sweet and salt off the back of her tongue. just a little taste!! a little taste never hurt anybody, right? and the pleased hum he's feeling under his lips is not a Steve, you'd better stop so I can finish enjoying this very serious movie sort of hum, either. if there was a hum for that, Steve is pretty sure he'd be able to identify it. )

[ she wishes she could say that the marquee didn't even come to mind in the incredibly short amount of time between steve asking her to go to the movies and her saying yes, but the mental image did make an appearance. on the flip-side, it wasn't accompanied by the dull sting of it, like it still did sometimes about a year ago? which obviously meant that now was a good a time as any to readjust her relationship with the place. she also wishes she could say the corner of her mouth didn't quirk up a bit when the box office attendant gave steve a look, but. it did. just a little! although she does actually know he went back to clean it off that same day- she's known for quite a while. like, her mother was told by a family friend just a handful of days after it happened, who then told her. and she still remembers the little spark of hope she felt back then, that she could add it to the list of things that steve really was the good guy that she had been spending so much time with, up until that point. so... it's not like the movie theatre is just a blemish on the relationship they're working to rebuild.

either way, they pick critters because it looks ridiculous, and nancy couldn't even pretend to ironically be interested in seeing police academy 3. and she totally caught the look steve gave her after she gets her icee, but she totally didn't realize that it was the goofy kind of fond, and not the teasing kind of fond, so she turned her nose up with a little hm!, declaring that she wouldn't be sharing, when he inevitably decided later on that it was a great choice to have with their popcorn.

to their credit, they didn't sit in the very last row of the theatre, but considering they're only 3 rows away from the last row, with no one sitting behind them... was it actually a mature decision, or simply a barely defendable one, if someone were to call them out for it? who's to say? and the decision to shift in her seat so she could comfortably tip her head and lean against his shoulder stemmed from a sudden need for the comfortable, easy affection that steve offered, just by being steve, more than anything else. and tracing little lines along his forearm with her icee-cold fingertips, then covering the spot with her hand to warm him up again, before taking another sip of her drink just to do it again-?? she was just being a brat! a jerk, at most. she didn't intend on it shifting from playful to handsy, but. she didn't exactly backpedal once it did.

nancy quite frankly thinks the movie sucks, and that it be the most anti-mood-setting movie in existence, so it's actually very impressive that she managed to successfully switch to horny menace mode so easily, after she abandoned the whole behaving plan. on the plus side, the glow of the big screen made it impossible to miss the look he gave her after she tipped her head up to lightly blow cool air just behind his ear, so that was great. although it also made it obvious that they probably would have ended up fooling around no matter which movie they picked. ah well.

her chair keeps creaking as she tries to turn and face steve properly, and she doesn't know if the chair's arm between them flips up or not, but she's not pulling away from kissing him to check. she'll just keep mentally wiling it to disappear instead, so it stops digging into her thigh every time she tries to lean in closer to him. but for now, with the way they're sitting, his left arm is getting all the grabby attention she would normally be gripping into his hair, or the back of his neck, or whatever other part of him she could reach. like, to the point where his shoulder might actually be a bit sore by the time the credits roll. because the way their fingers are laced up between them is something they always end up doing no matter where they end up making out, so that was perfectly satisfying, but only being able to squeeze his bicep with her other hand is quickly rushing towards not enough. even if it is, like, a really fucking great bicep.

there's no stopping the quiet sound she makes when he gives her the one-two make-out punch of using his hand in her hair to draw her closer so he can kiss her deeper, because she's absolutely weak for it. it's just one of those things that he does that turns her brain to taffy, and in this case, makes it hard to remember exactly where they are. which is why nancy scolds him for it by slowly sinking her teeth into his lower lip ( noticeably harder than she ever used to, by the way ) as soon as she gets the chance. ]
