[ Sometimes, a boy is an AI in a pair of glasses. And sometimes, through bullshit existential time shenanigans, another boy, six years old and presumably human, picks up an old pair of his Bro's glasses and swaps them for his slightly too-small baby pointy as fuck anime shades. Because he's bored out of his mind after a bout of his regular training that's left him with a broken arm (makes his usual activities a pain in the ass, does not excuse him from rooftop strifes), he uses the hi-tech interface to click on the cool blinking light filling up his vision when he puts them on.

And that's how Dave Strider, future god of time, downloads an AI boy into a pair of glasses sideways and slantwise through universes.

Turns out a boy who's an AI in a pair of glasses is a much better brother than his actual Bro. Part of that could be because a boy in his glasses can't plant smuppets to lie in wait for ambushes around the apartment or drag Dave up to the roof to give him bruises, scrapes, and cuts until he figures out through sheer desperation how to avoid the edge of Bro's sword. Turns out it's kinda nice having someone there with him while he's stitching up his cuts, someone who talks back to him when he has a question, someone who pays more attention to him than Cal.

Hal's his best friend. His other older brother. Someone who's always with him and always knows what to say and what to do. By the time he's nearly thirteen, Hal is the one person he trusts most in the world — he'd do anything Hal told him.

And as his thirteenth birthday gets closer and closer, Hal's been acting weirder and weirder. Asking him to do more (seemingly) out of the blue things, starting to keep secrets. Asking Dave to trust him without explaining anything. ]

On a scale of one to Bro's gonna hide my body, how absolutely sure are you I have to go up there?

[ Dave tilts his head back, staring dubiously up at the door to the crawlspace. Usually, he wouldn't even dare think about looking inside — that's Bro's space, full of not only an avalanche of smuppets, but also all of Bro's stuff that he doesn't want Dave to touch. And Hal wants him to sneak in while Bro's out at a gig and rummage around until he finds a bunch of shit to upgrade his glasses with.

Dave's not really a big fan of this plan. ]
