CIRCLE is a 2015 film about 50 people waking up in a room with no memory of how they got there. Slowly they realize they have to choose who lives and who dies if anyone is to escape. Only one can walk away.

Fifty people is too many for a thread, so how about two?

SUDDENLY, you wake up in a strange dark room with another person. Maybe you know them; maybe they're a total stranger. There's no way to escape and only one way to survive. You find nothing of use, no doors and no windows, just a note etched into the wall: DECIDE WHO LIVES. IF NO DECISION CAN BE MADE, BOTH DIE. YOU HAVE ONE HOUR.

Ready, set, go.

I have no intention of dying. I don't see why the person who dies has to be either of us, as long as someone does. We should familiarize ourselves and track our aspiring killer. It is their blood that should be spilled, not ours.

Having a living Dave standing right in front of him, not orange and feathery, isn't what he's used to, but he's Dave Strider. He'll fuckin' roll with it — he's just not used to being the Dave who has to decide to die. ]

[ Altruistic is a word used to describe several people here. Selfless, disinterested in their own well-being. When there is an altruistic one on the team, things can either go entirely smoothly because someone’s willing to take a hit now for you or incredibly poorly because their selfless actions are unwanted, too reckless, or taken advantage of.

Zarina is someone willing to take a hit and die for someone else. In fact, one of her main moves involves taking someone’s pain as her own. Quentin knows, without a doubt, as soon as he reads and re-reads the words engraved in the wall with an increasing panic, she’s going to try to make sure he gets out alive even if she has to end herself to do it.

He knows this because they’re very similar in several respects. And he’s going to try to do the same exact thing. ]

[ Ah, yelling isn’t going to help anyone. He does it anyway, slamming his hands against the words hard enough to make his palms sting. He kicks the wall for good measure, knowing that isn’t going to do anything either. All it does is make his foot ache. He turns to her quickly, eyes wide.

But has nothing to say. He runs his hands through his hair instead and starts pacing.

If he empties the needle in his pocket and injects air into his bloodstream, he’ll stop his heart quicker than she can stop him probably. He has a method. She doesn’t. Maybe. If he has to. But she probably knows this and is going to try to take it from him any second. ]

There’s a loophole to this. I know there is.

Daryl wakes on hard pavement, which isn't, in itself, anything new or shocking. He feels like shit, but he's felt shittier, and forced himself further. He sits up, brushes dust out of his hair, off the motorcycle vest he wears when he wants to feel like he's himself. Some days, that feels up for grabs, but today--

Is it even daylight? It's dark in whatever unfinished basement he's landed himself in, and he takes a second, flicking on a zippo to better see his surroundings.

It's not a basement, it's a cement box. And he isn't alone. The shape of a woman flickers in the darkness, and Daryl lets out a quiet shit when he realizes she's still alive. He holds the lighter up to his face, so she can see him. He doesn't think seeing him will quiet any fear-- he's some backwater redneck, he knows people expect less than shit from him, whatever-- but it's probably polite.

His accent is lightly southern, and strongly white trash. "You okay, lady?"
