[ Hard not to smile a little herself at the doofy grin he gives. She sort of looks away, too. ]

There was a vote for who should be Flower Queen at the time. I lost to Ori. [ Which, honestly, valid. ]

[In goes another bunch of fries as he tries to visualize all this. It comes to him easier than expected.]

Huh. Naw, I can see Ori bein' Flower Queen. She got the look down.

But still, leas' you bein' a Princess 'fore worked out for you and your friend.

[ That's actually how they met, Beat. It's a pretty meet-cute story involving clouds they both sat on that could float.

Unfortunately she's distracted when Beat goes back to the topic at hand. ]

Yes. His hair remained green for while afterwards, but at the very least, he is no longer in danger of being squashed.

[ Yep! She nearly sat on him, as a matter of fact. Susato just sighs, tone going flat: ]

That is why I was refreshing my memory of the story. It could have been worse, actually.

Yeah, guess so.

[He offers no explanation. Just more fry munching.]

[ Eventually there won't be any more fries, and someone is going to be very disappointed when they reach in next. Hate that for them. ]

In the original tale by the Brothers Grimm, the curse is broken when the princess threw the frog prince against a wall.

I've always preferred detective novels. [ And yet that book sure is comfortable tucked beneath her arm. ]

Don't blame ya. Leas' you expect that sorta thing from that, you know? Can't say I've ever really read one though.

[He does look over at the book again.]

You plannin' on borrowin' it?

[ There's a sort of nod as she brings up the book to look at its cover. Then she holds it close to her chest. ]

Mm. I have been reading more fairy tale romances over the past year...

[ Maybe just the "romance" part, mainly. ]

How about you? Surely there must be some books that catch your interest.

Me? Uh... I guess I read some manga. I don't really keep up with it much.

[Though he can't imagine that the latest issue of Jump is available in a library like this. Besides, he tries not to spend too much money on the volumes that come out.]

Hm? Oh... but aren't those just sketches?

[ Though money is a valid concern, she'll give him that. ]

Sketches? Nah, yo. Them's stories got some real meat to 'em. And they come out with a new one every week. That's why it's pretty hard to keep up with 'em.

[Can't just read them at the konbini too. The owners don't really like that.]

Interesting. So they are more than just whimsical pictures, but rather, there are actual stories with substance to go with them. And if they release on a schedule, that's not dissimilar to Randst magazine...

What a future I have to look forward to.

Yeah, the characters talk an' everything. Some a' even get turned into animé.

[He pauses already knowing the question that will follow. He's had to explain videos a couple of times already.]

It's like moving pictures that you can watch on a screen. They usually manga before they become animé.

That may be even more addictive than books, I fear.

[ Who can say? Susato is probably the type to stick to books, however. A true nerd.

[ The word escapes before she can stop it. She retracts her hand, letting it fall back to her side sheepishly. ]
