[ Westeros in chaos, what a surprise— the north remains a stable power, but vulnerable to being pulled under the tide of too many other collapses. Houses falling to infighting, houses being torn apart by opportunistic neighbors and bitter subjects, houses boarding up the proverbial windows of their keeps and hoping to weather the storm.

Someone has to pull themselves together, and as usual, it's the fucking Starks. Though perhaps when they brokered this deal with the far-flung remnants of House Targaryen, they expected a proper procession to arrive, and not two grizzled dragonkeepers who barely speak common and the dragon itself, massive and red and not at all like the skeletons and artwork kept in King's Landing, with its long, snakelike neck and too-wide smile. The rider, Prince Daemon, is wind-swept and pale, smelling like a burning fire and some kind of too-warm animal, and charming enough when he meets his intended, taking her hand and doing everything properly and kindly.

Though immediately after he turns and asks This is the OLDER daughter?, and Sansa gets to hear a tense conversation about whether her remaining family is sure they aren't interested in waiting for Daemon's two-year-old son to get older. Yes, she's over majority, yes, it's fine, but there's still a clear tone of exasperation. No one budges. The deal remains as-is.

And so, when they are finally granted something resembling privacy in which to become superficially accustomed to each other, Daemon's voice is wryly amused. ]

( mira's family is known for being able to control ironwood, wood grown in the north that when treated right is as strong as iron. whoever marries mira has a chance at gaining control over it since her whole family is kinda fucked. so i can see her parents arranging something politically, her offering herself in marriage to help save her family or being forced into something like in the game. )
