the storytelling meme

« THE STORYTELLING MEME »

»» HOW DOES IT WORK?
1. Post as your character, listing any preferences you'd like respected.
2. The responder replies. They can select the scenario, or they can leave it to you to do it.
3. Whoever's doing the picking hits up the Random Number Generator for prompts: one for the situation, and one for the type of story. (Sometimes they overlap.)
4. Alternately, mix and match on your own if you want.
5. Play it out!
6. Make sure you take note of any preferences a player might have and warn for triggers in the subject line if they crop up.
7. Have fun and exercise your creativity!

»» SCENARIOS
1. GOOD NIGHT. Time to soothe the other character to sleep with bedtime stories.
2. SIT AROUND THE CAMPFIRE. Just what it sounds like: you're both around a campfire telling stories. They can be spooky or not.
3. LESSONS FROM AESOP. You're trying to make a point with this story, a point that the other character really needs to hear.
4. WELCOME TO THE PALACE, SCHEHERAZADE. You stay alive so long as you can entertain the other character with stories.
5. THIS HAPPENED TO A FRIEND, MAYBE. You're telling stories of your own past; they're only disguised as fiction.
6. TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE. Both characters collaborate on a story: you start, and the other character continues, and then back to you.

»» STORIES
1. FAIRY TALES. The princess and the knight, or maybe the frog, or the pea.
2. MYTHOLOGY. Whether it's Odin or Tezcatlipoca.
3. LEGENDARY FIGURES. King Arthur and Fa Mulan both work.
4. URBAN LEGENDS. Questionable hitchhikers and things that got put in microwaves.
5. GHOST STORIES. Tales of the restless or ungrateful dead.
6. TRUE STORIES. This really happened to you or a friend; don't even disguise it. Maybe.
7. EPIC ROMANCES. Or maybe not so epic, so long as love is involved.
8. TERRIBLE TRAGEDIES. These don't end well.

Goku laughed. "No way, not where I'm from! One of them tried to carry Bulma off before we left home. It was a big old pterodactyl, and I had to hit it with my bo to get it to drop her."

"If you don't have dinosaurs around here, what do you have?"

Well..that made Tohko smiled and chuckle a little.

"While that sounds a little dangerous, it's great that dinosaurs exist where you live! We have lions, elephants, and other modern animals..but dinosaurs went extinct for us a long time ago."

"Oh yeah? Lions are pretty tasty. I've never had elephant before, though. Grandpa told me about them; they sound like they'd be kind of rubbery."

He pulled a piece of meat from the fire and took a bite, chewing in delight. "Man, this stuff is pretty good!"

"I've never eaten either..but you shouldn't eat elephants. They are endangered, you know. You shouldn't kill them right now."

Tohko smiled as he pulled some meat from the fire and ate it. While she wouldn't be able to taste it herself, she could imagine what it must have tasted like.

"Good! I'm glad you're enjoying it!"
