The dead don't need any tending, that is the the first lesson she is taught, God will do the rest. What is gone is gone and what is past - it belongs to the past. Paris is long behind her and New York City is very big, easy to get lost in, unless you have an experienced guide.

The back alley is shadow-filled and the night air feels clearer than it is, most likely, while she tends to a group of homeless people a few streets over from the hospital. Someone has called in that a man was lying unconscious in the garbage and the resident doctor had dispatched her, although it's dark, almost midnight and the poor man is no doubt simply out in a drunk stupor... Yet, all lambs must be returned to the flock and she finds him, she tends to him. He wasn't dead, after all. He wasn't dead, fortunately.

The back alley is located behind a small music venue and she can hear the guitar in the silence of the night. While the man, Howard, he says, drinks her water and takes her pills, she listens. As he gets to his feet, stumbling and swaying, she listens as it stops, too. The other three men take Howard, thanking her before leaving her alone in the shadows.

She waits a little while for the guitar to pick up once more, but nothing happens. Well, nothing happens beyond the back door opening and a woman exiting the place. Noémie straightens up, having packed away her supplies in her bag.

"It's a shame you didn't bring the guitar with you."

Her pronunciation is clearly marred by her French background. Always a bit muddy, her consonants. Whether or not the woman was the one playing, she might have left the door open and set the sound free. Regardless.

Music, the way Birdie plays it, can be a great equalizer between the living and the dead. Pulling everyone into synchronous emotion one song at a time, letting them be at ease or tugging them elsewhere, if the night needs it.

It's easy for some other Kindred to slip away with someone during a show. Maybe get a little overzealous, maybe leave them in the alley. People wander in and out on their own, too, which can make it hard to keep track. Birdie does her best to keep her eye on things from the stage, notices a local leaving with a pale friend out the alley exit, but she can't follow until after her set is finished.

When she steps outside and sees a nurse instead of a tableau of the most unfortunate way a night can go, there's a brief moment of surprise before she's asked about her guitar.

"I'm sorry," said with a wide grin as she scans the alleyway,. "Didn't realize I had someone waiting for a private show."
