i. Power Outage: The power’s gone out. Your flashlight is dead. The only choice you have is candlelight. Luckily you’ve got plenty of matches and candles to keep things bright.

ii. Camping: Out in the woods there are no lights. The campfire keep things warm and bright in your little corner of the world. It’s relaxing, isn’t it? To get away from it all.

iii. Religious: Lighting candles is a tradition in many religions. You feel the need for some peace and prayer. Light a candle to ease your burdens.

iv. Romantic Date: You really want to impress your date so you’ve pulled out all the stops. Amazing meal, fancy wine, and romantic lighting. The candlelight makes your date look incredible.

v. Seduction: Your lover certainly looks incredible in candlelight. In the dark, spread out on your bed with the candles casting teasing shadows, you are completely seduced. So is your lover.

vi. Kinky: A little pain can equal a lot of pleasure. In the right hands the sting of candle wax can really turn things up a notch.

[Well this world was certainly turning up to be one big spook fest, wasn't it Kairi? First she ends up in a forest alone, then a storm starts, then luck finally seems to be upon her and she finds a seemingly abanddoned mansion. Luck was upon her right now, just not how she thinks.

Stepping up to the votive candle rack in the dim, hushed Catholic church, Olivia reached for an unlit prayer candle. She upturned it into another already lit one to light the wick and watched the flame flare to life.

She turned the candle the right way up and placed it gently back into the rack, and then she stared at it, crossing her arms over her middle.

Olivia herself wasn't Catholic but her mother was, and this was the very church her mother's funeral had been held. That had been exactly two months today.

Lifting a hand to her face, she wiped away a tear while trying to force the rest of the tears, which were threatening to come flooding out, at bay. She swallowed thickly and drew in a shaky breath. So focused was she on trying not to cry that she didn't notice the man stepping up to the rack beside her.

[It wasn't that uncommon for the power to go out. After all, it was mostly thanks to Victor rewiring, hacking where he needed to that they tended to manage such a steady stream. After all, it wasn't as if they could afford an electricity bill even if they could sign up for one.

But Xavin is a practical thinker, and as soon as the lights flicker and go out one of her hands light up, her other instinctively going to find Karolina's. That doesn't mean there isn't a bit of a frown though]

I thought Victor had completed repairing this issue. Does he not realise how bothersome it can be? [The words 'what kind of robot is he, if he cannot simply do this' are bitten off, at least. Look, she's learning!]

It wasn't every day Justin Hammer found something other than a random charity to throw his money at. There were always plenty of scientific young minds to slide some money for a scholarship at, but he had done so as anonymously as possible, and it hadn't happened very much. How could he overlook a brilliant mind that needed only a little financial push to excel?

But a specific university's biology department had wandered into his radar, and after spending the better half of an afternoon reading through their work, their needs, and their connections, he felt he had something else that could do with a bit of Hammer Industries behind it. Even though they hadn't had a call for extra funding, what college department in their right mind would refuse a charitable donation that had no strings attached? There was nothing Justin wanted from them, if only because there was nothing they could offer him.

Other than to keep him as a mostly anonymous donor, of course. He'd be fine with the people in charge knowing who was behind it. He'd make visits to see how everything came along. But while Justin was rich and well-known in certain circles, he wasn't anywhere on the level of a certain other weapons designer. He could go into a Walmart without having to worry about getting stopped and grilled and asked for autographs.

In his life, he'd been envious of plenty of things about Tony Stark. Being well-known the world over, being a celebrity? Not one of them.

He hadn't found much resistance to the idea of it. He didn't have to go through some rigamarole about oh we can pencil you in in a week or so. He called, he explained, he dealt with some incredulity, and he'd made time for them the next afternoon.

So, just before three, he found himself being led through the campus by a very pleased escort who was more than willing to fill him in about the school's entire history. He tolerated it; it was information he didn't have, and while it wasn't exactly useful to every day life, Justin did appreciate adding most anything to his knowledge. Still, he was glad to part ways from them when he was at the lab, and he was more than fine with showing himself in. The office door wasn't exactly hidden after all.

But propriety was propriety, and although he was the man with the cash, he stopped at it and knocked, announcing himself:

"Justin Hammer. We have an appointment scheduled. May I come in?"
