COMPROMISING POSITION MEME

Up until now, there's definitely been some tension between you two. Whether it's more romantic or flatly sexual is, understandably, dependent on the personalities involved, but the fact remains that you both have been dancing around the issue for whatever reason. Why do why say "up until now?" Well, it's simple. Somehow, either through accident or otherwise, you've end up in what can only be considered a compromising position: you're in the other's lap, you're on top of them, chest to chest, almost kissing, so on and so forth. This leads to the ultimate snap in your tension - you just can't hold it in any longer, even if you try to get out of this situation unscathed.

The direction you move in, again, depends on the people involved, so things could take a turn for the awkward, the cute, the romantic, the desperate, or even the steamy. What's for certain is that whatever's between you may never be the same...unless you guys, in typical will they/won't they fashion, can repress and pretend nothing ever happened.

WHAT

awkward: UH UH SORRY FOR LANDING ON YOUR. UHM. YOU KNOW. But moving makes it worse, or you could be in a state of undress.
cute: Ah, just kiss them already! Or at least look into each others' eyes and have a moment.
romantic: A sweet, long kiss and perhaps some long-held confessions are in order.
confessions: Actually, speaking of confessions, they might just slip out without anything sweet...oooor your body reacting to this new position may be all the proof the other person needs to know something's up.
desperate: Oh, fuck it. You might never have this chance again and you've been wanting them so badly, you may as well snog at least, no matter what.

[levi just shrugs as he tugs the green blanket folded at the foot of the bed up over squalo.]

Didn't have any money. So I just stole whatever a kid could get away with and not get caught.

[rather than go into detail about kenny or how he'd just up and left, levi snorts at the comment as he removes his shoulder holster and throws it on the bed, crossing the room to hit up the closet for a cleaner shirt. as much as he'd tried not to get any blood on himself, there was still a little. and grass stains. nothing he can't bleach out later, but he shrugs out of the long-sleeved white t-shirt and picks out a black one, pulling it on without much thought. he's not looking to get questioned in public here.]

Yeah, okay. Be sure to leave that on whatever online profile you got so people know. Great at brushing teeth and taking bullets.

[he pulls the shirt down to his waistline and turns to a drawer, pulling out the necessary cash. he figures squalo will rob whatever he leaves later. if he does...whatever. levi only keeps this particular stash for food and tea runs. the real money is hidden elsewhere. but he pauses to consider what squalo is saying. yeah...he has a point. fuck.]

Not this time. But you can think what you want. It's not like we can't forget it happened if you think you're gonna have regrets.

Can't catch you if you pin their foot to the ground first.

[ Not always an option, of course, and it did tend to make merchants more wary of him over time, but he'd figured he enjoyed adrenaline pretty early. There's that sharkish smirk again, something of a contrast to the way he stretches a little under the blanket, apparently extremely pleased to be fussed over (sort of). ]

[ Hopefully Levi doesn't mind him suddenly very attentively watching him change, because really, he'd brought that on himself. Also, this is quality entertainment. ]

And sword fights. [ He supplies helpfully. Honestly, he's amazing at taking bullets, considering his penchant for getting into trouble and the fact that he was still alive, regardless. ] 'S just that all the fuckers carry guns now. Should be a crime.

[ It... probably is... ]

[ That said, though, he doesn't seem to have much interest in that cash drawer. Chances are good Levi will be finding it the way he left it as long as he keeps returning here. For a bloodthirsty criminal, Squalo sure has some weird hangups. ]

Hell nah. I don't regret shit. [ Okay, he maybe regrets not having a cooler performance today, but that's not what they're talking about now. His vision is going in and out of focus. ] And I sure ain't letting you live it down.

[ Pause. ]

Unless I'm dead when you get back. Then you're free to forget it. [ And in dramatically lowered voice; ] You'll never find another like me, though.

[ Yeah he's probably going to be out like a light in a moment. ]

Should be? Is. And don't think this whole thing between us means I'll be coming to bust your ass outta jail every time you fuck up either.

[with all visible weapons removed from his body, levi checks quickly to make sure he passes for a normal civilian before grabbing the trash can and pulling it over to the side of the bed. in case a sudden wave of pain hits and squalo decides to throw up.]

Live it down? Makes it sound like I didn't wanna do it in the first place. So you better heal up and not kick. Got a lot of things to try.

[with and or on each other. seems as good a motivation for squalo as any. levi's never gonna see the point in the more extreme stuff and he's sure they're probably gonna fight like stray cats do over scraps, but if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. squalo doesn't have to worry about much from him unless he seriously fucks up. levi smooths one hand over squalo's head before turning towards the door.]

I'll be back as soon as I can.

Every other time, then?

[ He's joking. Probably. He doesn't expect any busting, but moreover, he doesn't expect himself to fuck up bad enough to land in prison. You could never know, of course. Sometimes you did everything right, but there were wrong people at the wrong time... ]

[ He doesn't move, but he hears that bin click in place and he definitely appreciates it. He's still somewhat numbed by adrenaline (or painkillers if he got any), but the itching ache of stitches pulling on him is already starting to set in. ]

[ Levi's right about the motivation, it seems. Squalo doesn't look all that much livelier, considering the situation, but the grin is definitely back. ]

Thanks for the pep talk, boss. I'll drag myself all the way back from Hell if I have to.

[ He doesn't have much energy left, so he just lets his happiness be known by sort of pushing his head a little against Levi's hand. Like an overgrown cat indeed. He passes out in the middle of it, but he looks comfortable enough not to need rearranging. ]

[ He'll probably still be dead to the world by the time Levi comes back. At least it's obvious that he's alive from the loud snores that seem to escape him every now and then. They stop in the evening when starts running a fever, replaced by tossing and turning and quieter grumbles, but it would break in a few more hours. ]

[when levi returns, he did at least manage to find a place with that weird raw sushi shit that squalo seemed to like. raw tuna slices and something else - salmon maybe - but he didn't ask too many questions and just let the girl running the restaurant make the order. he took the opportunity to make the necessary calls while she got it ready and the pickup was arranged for the next morning. the boss didn't even seem all that upset to hear that he was taking care of squalo for their fuck up. or surprised. not wanting to read too far into that, he figured it was probably better just to keep security tight and weapons loaded. just in case.

but squalo seemed to still be breathing despite the fever. that was a good sign. levi kicks the mattress lightly to wake him, dropping the tied plastic bag with two plastic containers between the other man's knees.]

Open this up while I get you something to take the fever down. But congratulations, you're breathing.

[the sarcasm's never gonna go away either, so he hopes squalo can at least tell the difference between him wanting to piss someone off or just mess with them. he moves back into the kitchen quietly, pulling an ice pack out of the freezer and wrapping it in a dishtowel from the cupboard. it's not the greatest plan, but for a place he doesn't live in all the time, it's the best he can do as he comes back with that and a bottle of water.]

What comes outta your mouth next is gonna let me know just how delirious you are. Might wanna think carefully. If you can.

[he didn't actually get much food for himself. the only thing there that he recognized was some kind of rice and steamed vegetable bowl. seemed safe enough, so he went with that. culture was another lesson he skipped for over thirty years. didn't matter much when someone of a different culture was a target and or trying to stab him in the throat. it made things simpler for levi.]

[ it will take a couple kicks to wake squalo up, only for him to rapidly sit up with a knife brandished, seemingly ready to throw hands. a moment later, he registers the reality -- and levi -- and drops back down with a groan. ]

[ well. he is indeed still alive. that's promising. makes sense, really; leave it to the cleanest guy in town to stitch someone up in the tub and not give them an infection. ]

Greaaaat. Thanks. I could've stabbed you, you know.

[ unlikely, considering levi's reflexes are definitely much better than his own at the moment, but it's the thought that counts. ]

[ the sarcasm is just fine. so is kicking the shit out of him for whatever reason, honestly. squalo wouldn't know what to do with someone who's soft, or gentle, or pleasant. look, he never said his taste was good, but... ]

[ this time, he pushes himself up a bit more carefully. he feels like he's been trampled by a herd of elephants, and he's running rather hot, but he's a little more back to himself than before. probably. he picks at the knot on the plastic bag for a bit but manages to loosen it up successfully. ]

What now? They still looking for us?

[ he's definitely in no shape to jump back into action just yet, but it's not going to stop him from trying. ]

[he returns with a snort, setting the water down as he unceremoniously presses the towel-wrapped ice pack to squalo's forehead. he still looks like shit - that's gonna be a given for the moment, but he ain't dead and he seems to at least have slept some of the ordeal off. it ain't nothing, though his ass is still getting dragged to a clinic or hospital when he's strong enough.]

Could've tried. Somehow I didn't think you would, though.

[levi's confident squalo wouldn't have gotten far in any attempted stabbing. even on his best day if he's being honest. still, he sits down at the edge of the bed, waiting for squalo to get his food first. he's the one who needs the energy. sighing, he shrugs at the question.]

Didn't see anybody who looked like they wanted to finish the job. If anyone is still looking, they're either in the wrong place or are trying to figure out some sorta plan B because nobody wants to have to tell the ones in charge that they fucked up. What about you?

[he waits for squalo's answer, knowing the other guy can't be that fucked up to know what he's asking about.]

Better not be expectin' me to be the little spoon either way.

[not that he'd know exactly, but jokes aside, he's heard things. knows enough about normal people when they hook up. that and maybe he's just a little worried about squalo up and dying next to him while they're asleep. wouldn't be the first person to do that to him.]

[ he utters a soft 'fuck' at the contact with the icepack. it feels so damn cold against his burning skin that at first he thinks he's been dipped into a frozen waterhole, but the sensation evens out in a moment, and he moves one hand to keep the thing in place as he checks the contents of the containers. ]

[ he pulls the one with fishy goodness closer and nudges the remaining one toward levi, then proceeds to do his absolute best with the shitty plastic fork included with the meal. a little challenging with one hand, but he should manage -- ]

[ he does a little doubletake. he does not, in fact, know. mostly because there is a lot going on and levi could be inquiring about any of it. but if he has to guess, it's probably not about his intentions of making more corpses; the restriction had been made clear enough for him before the final part of their heist. which... made it a closed case, more or less. he shrugs. ]

My leg's shit but my dick still works. [ such a wonderful pair of sweet-talkers they both are. that had to be it, right? ] You'd think they'd be trying to either finish us off or steal that folder back at least. Did you check what's in it?

[ against their contract, technically, but he immediately wonders if it's fake. something to support his conspiracy theory. then again, it's not like mercs could just do whatever they wanted in a city, either. perhaps they were sitting ducks right now, too. the moment of quiet does not prove nor disprove anything. ]

[ he flashes a lopsided smirk and sinks his teeth into a piece of salmon. ]

Pshht. Everybody wants to be the little spoon.

[ he really doesn't mind either way, but height jokes are incoming in the next five seconds if the topic doesn't change. he may yet die today. ]

[levi opens his own container and okay...out of the corner of his eye, yeah. he's getting the shark comparison a bit, but he definitely does not smirk about that. not even a little as he rips his own plastic fork open with his teeth and rolls his eyes.]

Yeah? Too bad you don't have the blood to run it right now. Unless it's long enough for you to use it as a spare to walk on and somehow I doubt that.

[he stabs unceremoniously at the rice bowl in his hands, idly wondering how that's even gonna work if and when the time comes. levi never lets himself be intimidated by much, but since he's never exactly cashed his v-card, he can't say he doesn't find it a little daunting. not a problem he plans on confronting now in any event. not with squalo in such rough shape and they don't even know if they're gonna like each other after an extended period of time together. it ain't like levi likes too many people to begin with.

chewing over a mouthful of rice, he shrugs.]

Nope. Not my job to care what's in it beyond any marks that certify its authenticity. And if they want it back, they did a shit job of guarding it in the first place, so if they want it back, they can start by hiring smarter goons. Or at least find guys who'll put up a better fight next time.

[still...if it's a fake, it's a pretty convincing one. and wouldn't that just figure? he reaches over at the smirk and shoves squalo's good shoulder as lightly as he dares.]

Everybody who drank enough milk growing up maybe. Last thing I need is to wake up being smothered by the tits of someone who got too grabby.

[which...yeah. squalo strikes him as the grabby type. then again, levi knows he can crack a man's ribs just by getting a little too worked up, so it'll be a miracle if they don't accidentally kill each other.]

[ well that is... a very picturesque idea right there. bruh. why. ]

If that was the case I'd strap a knife to it and use it as a spear.

[ He gestures with the fork as he speaks, apparently struggling to stay still. Finally, he lets the ice pack slip into the bed next to him while he resumes stabbing his food and using his now-free hand to accentuate his words instead. ]

Mm. [ The manor had been guarded by quite large numbers, even if they didn't seem impressive one on one. He's honestly somewhat surprised it wasn't more difficult to get away. ] They underestimated us.

[ Or they had only expected one of them. That was the original plan. Well, it's no use thinking about it; he won't be able to do much for a while. ]

[ Except, maybe, once again act as bait. ]

[ Later. He can think about it later. The shove has him grinning wider. (He's absolutely the grabby type, but that would probably be the least important hazard while dealing with him.) ]

Gotcha. You'd rather have a faceful of hair and your knee up my ass.

[ Why yes. He's saying your legs are short, Captain. The hair part may be a dire but very real warning, however. There's certainly a lot of it. ]

[levi doesn't miss a beat, chewing over a mouthful of rice and swallowing before he speaks.]

Wow. Didn't think my throat or my asshole could retreat further into my body. Ya learn something new every day.

[which isn't to say he's interested in just laying down either. squalo has to work for that. and maybe if he's lucky levi will be willing to let him. right now? yeah. not a chance. he is glad the guy's eating, though. enthusiastic is good for whatever it's worth. and it's surprisingly cute...if not a little terrifying.]

Underestimated...or are just planning on a foolproof way to get at us without getting more people killed. Don't count 'em out yet because the chances of this being over are probably slim to none. Mostly, I'm just hoping the rest ain't gonna be our problem.

[so maybe he huffs softly at that wide grin, looking away so squalo can't quite see the faint smile forming on levi's own lips. annoying shit. this wasn't supposed to be so complicated. but levi's not big on take back's or regrets, so it is what it is. even if he is so entirely fucked.]

The hair, I pretty much expect. But there's a couple things I could shove up your ass and a knee seems a little extreme. Wasn't planning to start there, but if you piss me off bad enough, who knows?

[ he starts laughing and almost chokes on a piece of fish. at least he manages to spit it out back into his food container rather than somewhere into the bed, or worse, toward Levi. it will be back in his mouth soon enough, he's not about to waste food just because it nearly killed him. ]

Better hope they don't meet in the middle.

[ who let them talk? who let them have a conversation? for shame. ]

[ he does seem to slow down again as they talk business, though. it's annoying. he can't tell if he's just pissed off that he hadn't managed to get away without a scratch, or if it's a legitimate gut feeling that he should listen to. ]

...Yeah. [ he thinks for a moment, then suggests, ] Maybe I should handle the hand-over. Just in case. Not much I can do otherwise.

[ he's pretty much useless for the foreseeable future, and if it did turn out to be a trap... well, Levi would be able to do more for either or even both of them as long as he's free. ]

[ and there he goes, threatening him with a good time. he quirks a smirk again. ]

Hey, if you'd rather beat me into the ground like you did on my first day...

[ that may or may not have been the start of this whole crush mess, honestly. what can he say, he enjoys people who can kick hiss ass, and it's entirely possible he likes it a little too much. ]

[levi grimaces at the way squalo eats, throwing a balled up napkin at him. disgusting.]

They ain't gonna have to if I die from coughing my whole stomach up over your fucked up feeding habits over there. I might've eaten things that'd gag a maggot when I was a kid, but that's something else entirely.

[gut feeling or not, it is what it is. levi's confident he can take anyone that comes knocking and if squalo's still hurt, it's not like he hasn't thought of a back way out for both of them. as for the hand-over...hmm. he stabs his rice thoughtfully, shaking his head.]

Not without me. We both go. Because if shit does go south, you aren't in any condition to fight them for very long and I like to protect my investments if it's all the same to you. If you can even stand up in the first place. Gettin' shot ain't exactly supposed to be easy, y'know.

[it isn't a matter of useless so much as a matter of practicality. getting involved with someone wasn't in the plan, but what can levi say? squalo grew on him enough to make him wanna keep an open mind. mostly.]

I think your idea of beating down and beating off got crossed somewhere. I only kick people's asses in an actual fight. In bed...well I dunno. Guess we're gonna have to find out together. Was kinda hoping to do this the right way, though. Like...go see a movie first or some shit.

[okay, so he's never exactly dated before either. is it fucked up that he wants to try? he doesn't think so...but he also isn't gonna just admit that.]

[ Squalo rolls his eyes, but nonetheless picks up the napkin (after it hits him in the face and falls) to clean himself up. Nothing too much, really, but of course Levi would bristle at it. ]

[ He mimics a bow teasingly, as much as he can while sitting in bed anyway. He watches the rice stabbing in a mix of amusement and worry. It's so... well, almost normal, really, hanging out and giving each other shit, and yet there's still that unexplainable weight of maybe having gotten into something more than they bargained for. ]

Not like I can stop you. [ Because really. As confident as he is in his abilities, Levi was something else entirely, and now? Wouldn't even be a match. He makes a small grimace at the notion he may not be able to get out of bed by the time they need to sort out their business but doesn't deign it with a comment. ] But if it is fucked and we're both there -- who'll bail out us?

[ Is... is the captain being soft on him? Sort of? In a very roundabout way? Almost makes him feel a little sick, though in a good way somehow. Like eating too much sugar. ]

[ He's entirely caught offguard by the date suggestion, though, blinking a couple times with a neutral expression which almost looks odd on him, with how much he normally smirks and sneers. That... isn't really something he's got much experience with, either, actually. People like them just didn't do things normally, as far as he's concerned, something about the possibility of dying at any moment. They usually just took care of their business and that was it. That's not to say he wasn't interested, though, even if part of him is suddenly concerned whether things are getting too serious here. Was that... okay? ]

...Alright. We can do that. [ He says, a little thoughtfully, and then he's back to smirking and tapping his fork against the remains of his food playfully. ] Does this count as you taking me out for dinner?

[levi almost laughs at squalo's theatrics - the key term being almost as he gently nudges his clown shark again, wondering what the hell he got himself into. it won't be boring, at least. but it's obvious they got a lot of shit to work out...not that he isn't kinda looking forward to that. in some ways.]

Don't be a jackass - you tear them stitches, we're going straight to emergency and those ER nurses...they got cold hands. And I'll tell them you got a balloon full of drugs smuggled up your ass.

[he isn't being soft so much as...well, he doesn't know how he's being. he tends to at least try and not be a dick to people he cares about. that just happens to be a very select few. he doesn't know when squalo made the cut, but there they are. he also doesn't like the fact that for once, squalo has an excellent point.]

I haven't really worked that part out yet, seeing as how I dunno how trustworthy most of our so-called allies are and then there's people I'd rather not get involved. We fucked up, that's our problem. Making it someone else's isn't exactly a great way to fix it, so if you got ideas...better speak up.

[levi does actually huff a very quiet laugh at squalo's question, though. it's not like he knows much about dating either. he didn't even think much of suggesting it. too serious? maybe. but this seems to be working out just fine. it ain't marriage or a blood oath.]

Maybe. I'm just glad I didn't wind up having to hide a body tonight. Was a little concerned when you passed out the way you did. If it's all the same, warn me if you think you're actually gonna die. And if you decide you wanna back out...same thing. Yeah?

[ at least he has the good sense to look mildly mortified at that idea. ]

[ but at least he seems to take the threat seriously enough. he eats a few more pieces of fish, pushes the rest away, and slowly lowers himself back down onto the pillow, fishing (heh) the icepack out of the bedsheets to rest it on top of his forehead again. his expression is sour, however. he's not the type enjoy bedrest too much. ]

[ he sighs and looks at the ceiling for a few moments as he contemplates. ]

My idea was that you would keep distance and react accordingly. If Roshenweiz sold us out, he'd probably have me restrained and handed over to the guys we fucked up rather than killed on the spot, which gives us time. Unless, of course, he's invited them along.

[ but there's just no way to know that. ]

[ he probably should not mention blood oaths, though, because that shit is right up squalo's alley. ]

Back out? Have you met me? [ He's got no plans to do so, especially not once he's found someone he considers worthy of following. But he supposes the request isn't unreasonable, so he nods. ] Fine. If I feel like I'm gonna croak I'll let you know. I want a Viking funeral by the way, [ he adds, though it's suspiciously difficult to tell whether it's meant to lighten the mood or if it's an actual request lest things go to shit. ]

[levi just shrugs.]

[in all actuality, it's true - he wouldn't. he'd think about it, but the ER is about as far as any of it would get. out of genuine concern more than anything else, but squalo walked into that threat on his own. at least as far as levi is concerned. he doesn't enjoy being laid up either, but it is what it is.]

Maybe. Unless they just decide to shoot you in the head. And contrary to what people think, I ain't so good with a rifle - my cover fire turns into hostile fire by accident real fucking quick. So...how much do you trust me here?

[he's half-joking, but at the same time, trying to present a very real thing to squalo. he might be good in a fight. hell, he can take out several men in the right situation and never met a knife he had trouble wielding, but all that hero worship...that's gonna have to go if they're gonna start seeing each other. squalo either acknowledges he's a person with flaws or this ain't gonna get too far.]

I'm banking on the fact that the boss likes me. And if he kills me too, well...then I won't have too many problems anymore either, will I? It isn't like we don't know that it's all high risk to begin with.

[he huffs softly, not quite a laugh, but as close as he usually ever gets to one.]

Good to know for when I gotta steal the fucking canoe to get that job done. Lighter fluid gonna be okay or are you really looking to go all out?

[ squalo scoffs, but doesn't have a witty comeback at the moment, aside from dawning realization that this must be what it feels like to have one's butthole retreat back into their body out of fear. he's not a huge fan in all honesty. ]

[ instead, he can focus on them discussing a totally theoretical scenario where their benefactor betrays them. ]

You'd still have the chance to bail though. [ he offers casually, with a shrug. you see enough death and you become weirdly pragmatic about it. both of them dying would be more of a waste than just one -- and that's probably what had fueled his near-suicidal maneuver back at the manor too. ] Unless you're saying you can avoid a bullet at point blank.

[ Lighter fluid would absolutely be fine by him -- hell, he'd be dead so he wouldn't care -- but the apparent thoroughness levi is willing to offer is definitely tugging the corners of his mouth upwards, too. he only tries to stifle the laugh because it fucking hurts. he makes an exaggerated serious face and closes his eyes for emphasis. ]

As out as possible. With at least three sacrificial goats.

[levi simply continues to eat his meal, staring blankly at the wall beside the bed, carefully considering.]

Dunno. Never actually tried. Might have to find out since I don't bail. If I was gonna do that, I would've just left your ass before. Wouldn't have wasted time making a mess I gotta go bleach when we're done here, much less went through with the other thing.

[sarcasm aside, it's not a test he ever wants to actually have to undergo, but...it is what it is. if someone shoots, he moves. if someone pulls a knife, he moves. as much as he never admits it aloud, fighting is the only time he ever feels like he's doing something right. like he was made for it. so no. getting shot at is more of a serious inconvenience.]

I'll put it on the shopping list under the booze and gunpowder. Just don't come back and haunt me if I can only get a loaf of that fake vegan shit. Could be goat. If you just believe hard enough.

[ he was made for it. that much should be obvious to anybody with eyes, or at the very least anybody with a fight boner, the way squalo is. nonetheless, getting shot at is something that makes even him have doubts. ]

[ he lets out a frustrated sigh. ]

You want me to stay behind, then? So I don't slow you down? I won't be able to do shit to help if you do need it, though.

[ somehow, it's their fake funeral rites discussion that keeps the mood from plummeting any further down than it already has. it's probably some flavor of abnormal, but squalo was never particularly concerned about conforming. ]

[ the icepack against his forehead starts to feel less cold, though he's not sure if it's just his skin getting numb, or if the fever's already going down. ]

Gross. If you end up sending me to vegan hell with that, I'm absolutely coming back to haunt your ass. Just sayin'.

You wouldn't slow me down so much as just be an easy target, but I know better than to ask. Anytime I ask people to stay behind, they just get more motivated to go. So...all I can ask is that you don't get your dumb ass killed.
