when things break bad...

Bad End AU Meme
Sometimes you want a fix-it AU. You want everyone to live, to be happy, to find love, so on and so forth. You want the bad guy to lose early, for victory and triumph. Those are great things. Those are happy things. But sometimes terrible things happen to good people and you want to get catharsis through making some characters suffer. We understand. We really do. Sometimes no one wins. Sometimes the villain wins. Sometimes even if the heroes win everything is for naught. Sometimes, things just don't end happily.
- Top level your character. Include any details you might think are relevant. Or don't. As always, we're not the cops.
- Reply to other people's top levels!
- Have fun!

Feeling more at ease with her at his side, Dante wondered whether or not Beatrix would understand the feeling of dread the castle caused the same way he had. In a sense, it was supposed to make him feel 'at home'. To Beatrix, the very walls themselves must have felt alien even when she was at the center of the room.]
That so? I think I like seeing you prove it from time to time.
[That levity was necessary from time to time. Without it, he wouldn't have carried himself through some of the worst years of his life, even if he came out quite different at the end of them. Still. He couldn't keep it up the whole time. When the Shadows dispersed and smashed their way out of the glass doors to escape being cornered like their packmate, Dante let his shoulders drop and that air of ease bled from him like a fresh wound.]
Damn.
[Spinning his guns back into their holsters, Dante looked from point to point in the room. First, the mirror. Strangely, nothing radiated off of it the way he expected. So, he checked the bed post and the shelves. The macabre statue of the holy woman, gagged. Things they wouldn't notice just in the passing of a sudden battle. Though he'd set aside his guns, he didn't leave himself unarmed for long. Conjuring his sword, he made his way to the now-opened balcony. The courtyard below had been his more prominent concern. He called out to Beatrix, light in tone and heavy in motivation. Something about that empty courtyard had him more nervous than everything else in the mansion.]
Ready for a bit more dancing?

Had she been on her own... Beatrix wondered how long she might have survived in the castle laden with traps. They still had no guarantee that they'd even get out together.]
Yes, well.
[Lifting a hand to flick her hair back with a frustrated sigh, Beatrix got as far as the glass doors before she turned to look back to Dante whilst he moved his attention from mirror and to the bed post, before he moved along to the various pieces of the room. She moved back to join him, the hold on her sword loosening just a touch, as if a reminder that composition remained a requirement.
On the balcony as she examined the courtyard beneath them, she drew in a breath. Open space was dangerous.]
I imagine I am not going to have the option of turning you down.
[Her expression, wary, and the foreboding of the castle weighing down upon her, she worried over the man they would face. A reflection of the man who was at her side. Could she fight him when he shared such a likeness? It continued to be a concern.]
How far down is that? I could probably jump it.
