At least, in the beginning.

You're self-aware, though, and your experiences are slowly changing you. Are they making you wiser, or just more unpredictable? And was this part of the purpose for which you were created -- or will there be consequences if you stray too far from expectations?

A machine with a mind, whether clockwork soldier, hyperrealistic android, or artificial intelligence that powers simulations or starships. You know that you exist, even if you can't be said to live. But can the humans get their squishy brains around that idea?

Perhaps you're a custom-built replica of someone long gone, or the bespoke child of the most discriminating of parents; or perhaps you're only one of a whole legion of twins, turned out en masse as workforce or cannon fodder.

Men built of clay, women carved from marble, girls made of flowers and creatures pieced together out of dead things -- something created in a human shape, and then animated. Your life, in a very real sense, is not your own... but what about your soul?

Guri is a unique partner, to put it mildly. One of the reasons Seven began to content herself with a human sleep pattern was so that she could share a bed without awkwardness—and also share the experience of sleeping and waking in each other's arms. But, when her partner has no need for sleep, suddenly Seven's become the inefficient one: the one with pesky biological needs, and the whole practice must be re-evaluated. For the first time in a long time, she has to consider that the technological method might be better. It would be more expedient. They'd have more time together, mutually conscious.

She'd feel more rested if she regenerated, but her pursuit of humanity has manifested as a rebellious streak a mile wide. Hugh was the only person (in recent memory) who could get Seven into a Borg alcove. In his absence and without a certain EMH around to lecture her about the importance of implant maintenance, she makes do with a combination of sleep and drawing energy from a modified outlet in the mornings.

She doesn't want to be difficult to accomodate. She doesn't want to be the reason there's Borg technology taking up space on a Federation vessel, even if Starfleet is determined to adapt and integrate such technology themselves. It's harder to ignore an alcove in the sleeping quarters than a subtle modification to the main deflector's tachyon matrix. She'd prefer if her stint as acting captain didn't leave any visible scars on the USS Stargazer.

The captains' quarters boast a personal replicator and a private galley—where, rather than replicating a completed meal, Seven can be found cooking manually with replicated ingredients. It isn't strictly necessary for Guri to eat either, but Seven finds cooking enjoyable, and cooking for others doubly so. She's moving to and fro around the cooktop and counters with the ritualised ease of practice. She's not yet dressed for the day, her hair in the more progressed state of unkempt waves.

"How do you fill the time while I'm asleep?" she asks, tone hinting more investment than idle curiosity.

Poisons pumped directly into his veins until he seized and foamed. Screamed until something in his throat snapped and left him with a voice like rasping metal. Pumped full of poison and monsters mutagens until his black eyes turned yellow as the wolves that had hunted him among the pines.
