Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

Oh, Gabe. [His smile is audible.] That sounds like a good way to spend the afternoon. Let me get the candy, and I'll come right in.

[He gives him a light kiss on the cheek, and pops out of the room with a flutter of wings, returning a split second later with cordial cherries and a bottle of bourbon. And no clothes, but Gabriel can't see that part.

Setting things within reach, on the floor, he touches the archangel's shoulder again.] Facing you, or behind you?

[He doesn't get close enough for most people to call him Gabe - he annoys them, mostly, and the fact that Balthazar put up with him for this long was a feat on its own - so every time he calls him by that nickname, Gabriel can't help but smile.]

Good boy.

[He really doesn't mean that to be attractive in any way for Balthazar at this point. It's just become reflex to say that to him by now.

When the other angel returns, he thinks for a second, actually scratching his chin at that point.]

Behind.

[What can he say? Being spooned is always comforting.]

[Balthazar's rather pleased he can get away with the nickname. Some people are touchy about these things.

He's grinning when he returns with the supplies, riding the wave of subtle praise.] Good choice. That's my preference, as well.

[He sits on the edge of the tub, shivering at the cold porcelain on sensitive skin, and guides Gabriel a couple inches forward so he can slip in with him.]

Yeah, I know. That's why I let you get back there.

[He scoots up a few inches to allow Balthazar to slip into the tub behind him, relaxing against his chest, his eyes still closed.]

And I'm smaller than you anyway, so it's easier for me.

You know me so well. [The observation comes out low and gentle, and he slides carefully up behind Gabriel, wrapping both arms loosely around him. The height difference is very comfortable at this angle.]

Only by a couple inches. I admit, I sort of enjoy it, though.

[And when he feels his arms curl around him, he knows where Balthazar is by touch and Grace alone. That's more like it. He rolls over on his side, resting his head on Balthazar's vessel's chest.]

And why's that?

[Oh, that's cozy. He could get used to this, snuggling with wet skin. He tucks his chin over Gabriel's head softly and closes his eyes.]

Because you're so much, you sometimes make me feel small. I like the flip side. Makes me feel like I can protect you, too.

[Okay, that was pretty sappy, but he's worried about Gabriel right now.]

[Wow.

If Balthazar's paying attention, on the physical side of things, he'll feel Gabriel smile against his chest and press a little kiss to it. But on the more ethereal side of things, he'll feel warm energy in short bursts coming from Gabriel's Grace.

He speaks teasingly to Balthazar.]

Mmm, you know, sometimes it's a bit jarring when you act so fucking adorable.

[He can tell he's said something right, and his Grace echoes back the energy in soft thrum. Then he laughs.] I happen to be the cuddliest angel in the garrison. Didn't you know that?

Dude, I've known that before the first time I even cuddled with you. Just look at you. You're always fucking grinning from ear to ear.

[He can even figure out how to do it when there's not much reason to grin.

Gabriel likes that about Balthazar best.]

I have a good sense of humor. [Not. He's a pun fanatic.]

Or possibly I'm just good at faking it until it starts to feel real. [He rubs his chin lightly against the top of Gabriel's head. The smile feels real right now, even with the worry over his curse.]

Yeah, I've been doing that ever since I came down here. It generally works out.

[God, Balthazar is positively adorable when he's cuddly. He can feel the younger angel's smile, even if he can't see it, and it's practically filling his own Grace with warmth.]

You mentioned something about candy, Balth?

Ohh...I see. I'll have to work on you, then. Maybe we can make it real for us both, hm? [There's the sap again. He doesn't care. Tilting his head, he gives the tip of Gabriel's ear a soft nibble, then hums.]

Yes. Cadbury eggs or chocolate-covered cherries? I brought bourbon, as well. It goes all right with chocolate.

Balth, baby, it's been real here for quite some time.

[He chuckles a little and lets out a soft hum at the teeth against his ear.]

Dude, chocolate covered cherries! You're spoiling me.

[He can't help but wonder what any other angel overhearing them would think. Not that it would make a difference. The entirety of Heaven could disapprove, or laugh, and he and Gabriel would likely just laugh back, all the way to the bedroom. It's an oddly secure feeling.]

Glad to hear it, love. [He murmurs and kisses his ear, then stretches out an arm lazily to retrieve the box of cherries. He opens it with telekinesis, rather than letting go of Gabriel with the other hand, picks up a chocolate and brings it up close to him, between his hands and his mouth. He's not sure whether he'd rather accept it from his fingers or just go the completely decadent route and eat out of his hand.] I'm not the connoisseur of sweets you are, but I do like cherries.

[Decadence? Gabriel is all about decadence. He feels Balthazar's arm move away from him to grab something, and then he smells it in front of him. What they say about your other senses heightening when one is gone? Totally true.

Gabriel leans forward and takes the cherry out of Balthazar's hand with his mouth, sucking the excess chocolate off his fingertips as he does so.]

[Fair enough. Just that little gesture is enough to earn a shiver and a soft sigh out of Balthazar, although he's trying very hard to rein in his lust just now. It's not easy with an attractive naked body pressed against him, and the feel of the other angel's tongue on his fingertips.] I should have tried this weeks ago, shouldn't I? When you're back to normal I'll buy whipped cream and chocolate body paint.

[Gabriel's reining in his own want now, as well, because as soon as Balthazar brings up more...playful bedroom objects, his mind starts to wander and it's written all over his face.]

Yeah, no, I kind of wish we had that stuff right now.

[Ohhh, really? Balthazar wouldn't want to push while Gabriel's feeling under the weather, but if he's up for it, why not?]

I'd rather not go back out. We'd have to make do with what's around the house. I think there's chocolate syrup, at least.

You kidding? Of course there's chocolate syrup. I live here.

[He's smirking a little bit - Gabriel likes the sound of all this already.]

You'll have to help me get out, though.

Oh, we're not staying in the tub for the sake of easy cleanup? [He kisses the back of his neck.]

All right, let me up and I'll fetch you a towel, then. [Balthazar needs little persuasion where sex is concerned.]

We could, but the chocolate wouldn't stay on my skin, now would it?

[He smirks a little, then leans forward to allow Balthazar a freer range of movement.]

I suppose not. [His voice goes soft and gentle as he nuzzles the damp back locks of Gabriel's hair, but he rises a moment later, stepping out of the tub cautiously and fetching towels. He pulls the plug to drain the tub when he returns, and reaches to take the archangel's arm.]

All right, I've got you. Step out and I'll dry you off.

[God, Balthazar can be damn romantic when he wants to. It's one of the things Gabriel likes most about the younger angel. He doesn't show it outwardly much, but he's always appreciated being wined and dined. It kind of clashes with the front he puts up, though.

He takes Balthazar's arm gratefull and steps out of the bathtub, standing with his arms out so Balthazar can dry him easier.]

[Handling with care, Balthazar makes sure Gabriel's not about to slip on the damp floor, and dries him off thoroughly, taking his time at it, especially as he pats down more sensitive areas. When that's done, he tosses the towel on the floor and just picks Gabriel up playfully.]

I think I'll just carry you around for a while, since I have you at a disadvantage.
