This isn't interesting, it's the same story half the career spacers along the lines have. I qualified, I went downstation for the first time, as a brand-new lieutenant, and with the...let's say encouragement of my colleagues, I found a stationer I liked the look of and we had an overnight.

I don't really remember the details. I was nervous and the others from the ship kept buying me drinks so that I wouldn't be. I remember what he looked like in the morning, and his name. We didn't stay in that system long.

This little town had discovered a clean water source, which is worth a lot in the wastelands. So when word got out, a bandit group decided they'd move in and take over and use that wealth to upgrade to warlords. Took whatever they wanted from the villagers, took some slaves, killed some people.

Then a couple days later I showed up with my friends and like...I don't want to brag but to people like us a few bandits aren't really any kind of threat, so we dealt with that over the course of an afternoon. The locals were very appreciative once they realized we didn't intend to replace the bandits as the new overlords and threw us a bit of a party.

This one girl was VERY appreciative, though. I didn't really realize it at the time but in hindsight, she was flirting with me all evening and coming on REAL strong.

Long story short she took me back to her room and broadened my horizons.

It was sudden, but not a surprise. The three of us did everything together. It felt inevitable. We were close before, and inseparable after. Ours was far from a typical teenage romance for many reasons, but we loved each other. For a while, anyway.
