Calming Presence

You're about to go off the rails. No, no "about," actually. You've left that train track fair behind, and you're crazy. Rage fills every inch of you, and there's no doubt you're about to do something dangerous, stupid, or reckless. Or all three. There's only one person who can calm you down: your partner.

Now, they're using closeness, reassurance, or physical intimacy to remind you what really matters, which is the two of you. Surely, this will bring you back, letting the anger ebb out and you'll be able to think straight again, even if your lover was the actual cause of all this mess.

Won't it? Surely you won't direct your wrath towards them, no matter what.

[ The perpetual comforter, so I'm going to shake things up a bit and say she's the one in need of support now. Why not? ]

[ The P30 device had been damaged but not removed. She wasn't sure that it could be at this point. Even though it was something foreign that didn't belong, she felt like it was a part of her. It was something else out of her control and the source of her actions and inactions. No, it was a vehicle, and the man controlling her was the true source -- her monster that she'd failed to kill and what plagues her for her actions and sacrifice. What scares her is that she regrets none of it; The sacrifice she made and is still making -- she'd do it again in the exact same way without hesitation. Even with knowing what the outcome was -- is -- it still doesn't make her take pause. Though her heart may still be in the same place, her goals have changed. What she was fighting for has changed, or rather, who.

He came without warning that day they met. It was light out but the darkness was nearly enough to snuff it out. She was buried, suffocating, and without a lifeline. Joshua Graham had been that lifeline she desperately needed.

It was strange how he was able to break through the influence of the P30. While it still ran through her, he was able to temper it somehow. What she felt was familiar and a want and need that she hadn't thought was possible again. He ignited a fire inside of her and a willingness to follow -- to fight for someone again of her own will. That was more than any freedoms Wesker had allowed, the false promises and tests of her loyalty and of her sanity. The latter, she'd keep to herself. She'd first die again than ever let him know he'd gotten to her.

It's today she returns to him -- to Joshua, in the cloak she was wearing when they'd first met. She'd meant to hide herself as best as she could in her travels to see him. While she knew what he was capable of, Wesker was still out there and the looming threat that he'd come after her was always a possibility. It wasn't for her own safety, but for his, for anyone Wesker may perceive as a threat. She doesn't wear the mask, but the hood is pulled over her face temporarily. It's when she draws near when she's sure it's safe that she pulls it away. Where her eyes can look into his without a veil of crimson in the way. That alone is comforting, to be able to look at him as herself. She makes sure their eyes connect, but she doesn't hold his gaze. There's something that weighs heavily on her mind that she's hesitant to say. Instead, she approaches closer with her gaze focusing on no particular feature of his at the moment. ]

Joshua Graham. [ She manages to pass him a faint smile. While words aren't as difficult to speak as they once were, there are still hints of formality -- a habit that she's not yet broken with still not being entirely free of the P30. ] It's been a while. [ Too long, as she says it as if they're drifting away even if that's not the case. Her eyes drift to his hands, returning to that hesitation. For now, she remains close and doesn't go on letting them simply be in the moment. ]

[ How did I end up like this...?

...is the second time he's asked himself today. He already knew the answer to the first time, in which...things happened that led him to end up dressed in this get up. It kind of became a crazy trip from there, with men leering at him as he tries to make his (long) way back home until one of them decided not to just leer anymore. One insane thing led to another...in which he still can't wrap his head around the fact that Samatoki of Mad Trigger Crew is the one escorting him.

Doppo hasn't said a single word since Samatoki came to his rescue. It appears the other man doesn't recognize him, which he's really not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. The day goes from being partly cloudy to outright murky...and the only thing muffling Doppo's internal screaming is the storm going on in his head at the asme time.

One thing's for sure, his fear of being found out has him reduced to just appearing as a very, very shy young woman on her own. ]

[ Netflix's Marvel's Daredevil specifically. Open to canon, cross canon, and ocs. ]

What's supposed to be a quiet night off turns into the complete opposite, and Anna's seething with rage.

It starts with a faint noise in the background of a phone call with her mother, Adriana, and then the line goes dead. Panic sets in and Anna rushes to her car with her off-duty weapon and hits the lights and sirens as she speeds off from her apartment building towards Brooklyn. Even without traffic she's too far out to make it in time to do anything, and she wants to scream. Anna's never been the religious type, but Adriana has been a devout Roman Catholic her entire life so when Anna tries to pray for God to save her, it has to count for something... right?

The helplessness she feels as she barrels through midtown traffic reminds her too much of the day she and Angell were gunned down. How she watched her partner bleeding out and wasn't able to get to her in time. Anna dials Matt's number in the longest of long shots hoping that he might be in the neighborhood working on the case. He's blind, what's he gonna do? She doesn't know. He's just the first person she could think of calling. Maybe his partner Foggy is with? Karen mentioned something about scaring off some goons with a baseball bat once. She doesn't know. It's all she can do to keep herself sane. After the third time going straight to voicemail, she tosses her phone onto the passenger's seat and screams.

Adriana is outside of her apartment building, being backed into a nearby dark alleyway by four armed men - two with handguns, two with knives - and being told to 'reconsider' her legal representation on behalf of the neighborhood businesses being threatened. The older woman has her hands up defensively but she's not crying or panicking. Just standing resolute, silent, with her back to the wall. She speaks calmly and firmly in Italian to the men who retaliate by screaming for her to speak English. One of the men loses his patience and says to just let him shoot her already because no one is going to miss an immigrant bitch like her.

Adriana survived nearly twenty years of marriage to an emotionally abusive alcoholic narcissist and being tossed out onto the street with only the clothes on her back and her oldest daughter to look after (even if Anna was 18 at the time, it's still her child). She built her way up from nothing to where she was while barely speaking fluent English at the time. Most of the business owners she's fighting on behalf of have helped her out in her darkest times. Her daughter has survived horrors no one should see in a million lifetimes, and men like this will not scare her into submission.

Even if this is the end, she will not beg or cry or scream. Her death will be dignified and for the people in her community that she loves.
