Some of these places may be less hospitable to life than others, but all present their own unique challenges... and all command respect, for both their beauty and their power to support or end a life. Wherever you may travel, and for whatever reason, mind your environment. The wilderness can support you, but it can also ruin you. Will you fight it, or adapt to it?

The wormholes were, once explored, very handy things to have for quick escapes and quick travel from a safe domain to an incredibly unsafe one. But until that point, flanked by shadow guards and armed with a shovel, the wormholes were disorienting and fairly risky propositions.

"All right. What do we know?"

The split shadow soldiers exchanged a sideways glance. Evidently, not much.

"Moss will grow on the north side of a tree in the northern hemisphere, and on the southern side of a tree in the southern hemisphere." Maxwell recited, dutifully moving to check the side of a tree, and adding, "I don't actually know which hemisphere this is."

So she also didn't know a lot. There was always jumping back through the wormhole, of course, but that would A. be admitting defeat, and B., require relocating the wormhole as well, and. Well.

She had a flare, at least, and leaned it up against the tree, peering at the guards. "Don't just stand there." She said, for want of anything better, "Go--"

Distant, and very familiar, baying, and only seconds later, a Varglet burst from the trees, and Maxwell amended "--Stay--!"

Not terribly long after that, the signal flare went up. This was time for plan A; admitting defeat.

[The buzzcut's good for one thing at least: no wet hair in his eyes. Hey, at least he's looking on the bright side? Barclay's not exactly thrilled about the current situation -- not because of who he's with (Stiles is interesting, to say the least, on top of having more experience than him with supernatural stuff like this), but the literal rain on their parade, which already has him soaked to the bone, isn't making this the most fun of treks.

At least they got what they came for, so all that's left now is finding their way back through the night woods. Barclay clears a path through the thick foliage for them, wishing he'd thought to bring a machete along as he yanks out and beats back all manner of brambles and branches.]

Do you suppose this undergrowth is part of the weird juju you said this forest has, Stiles? [Someone else might have complained about not being a given a more specific warning, but luckily for Stiles he's with Barclay, who isn't much given to making complaints when there's a job to do.] Because I'm pretty sure this path wasn't so overgrown when we were coming up it.

[As he understands it, the plan from here is to catch back up with the team Stiles belongs to, or pack rather. That seemed like the simplest part of their task hours ago, but like everything else that's happened tonight, in practice it's turning out to be something easier said than done.]
