At the moment I've got nothing specific I'm itching to do. I've been rewatching the series for the... double-digit-number-th time, so I'm happy to immerse even more into that universe. I'm not up to date on all of the post-series comics and books though I am slowly trying to collect those. I've also got a Kya but she could really use more input from the print material.

Slowly, they begin to realize that the other isn't a terrible person, they'd both just been put in a terrible situation and weren't given the choice to say 'this isn't want I want'. Total slow burn romance, they find reasons to keep coming together for these fleeting little moments that hint at happiness, courting after marriage, very slowly finding out how good they are for each other, and eventually falling in love.

But I also wouldn't mind playing a plot about class struggles. I'm a sucker for a forbidden romance, so whether she falls for someone above or below her station, I'm game. So, I'm definitely thinking about a lot of sneaking around, and trying to deny feelings, and the desperation that comes with trying to stay away from each other, only to fall back into each other's arms.

Or, in a similar vein, after the sudden death of her father, Evie had to leave her schooling to help out a mother who was already working, all while taking care of her youngest siblings. She can be a maid, a cook, a nanny who falls for a single father, or older brother, another servant, a tutor, townsperson, someone of a higher station. I'm up for discussion!

And then, there is the good ol' plot that revolves around her tutor, and they sort of bond over books, and their shared love of reading, and while there are feelings that crop up for the both of them, it's not very proper for a man in his position to court a woman in hers. He's afraid of losing her to one of the tons of suitors her father is throwing at her, but still, they never share what it is that they're feeling, they just continue to live in this limbo of longing, and sexual tension, which slowly gets all the more intense until finally, he can't take it anymore, and he insists on a meeting with her father, where he tells him everything that he feels, that he loves her, that he might not be a rich man, but he'd treat her right, and that he wasn't leaving without her come hell or high water, and maybe it doesn't happen right away, or maybe they run away together, or maybe they actually are able to be together and get married, but obviously there'll be a happy ending in there somewhere, and ... yes.

Or, I'd also like a slow burn romance with the man that she's made to marry. At first, maybe they're both uncomfortable and aloof, but they find some sort of common ground, which leads to innuendo, and stolen moments, touching, kissing, missed opportunities, and a whole lot of UST.

I would also love, love, love a courtesan verse for Evie. Sold into service at a high class brothel, she's spent years entertaining all sorts of patrons, never expecting to meet someone that they actually care about. Maybe she has a patron that returns time after time, and although she is reluctant to admit that she has fond feelings for him, eventually does. I am absolutely a sucker for a forbidden romance, and if this doesn't qualify, I don't know what will. I have so many horrible ideas of the hurt I can inflict in this verse, but ultimately, I would love for them to have a happy ending.

I would also love a plot where as a child, Evie almost drowns and is saved by a young merman. She keeps coming to the shore as she grows up, and they fall in love. I'd love for him to magically gain the power to walk on land and try to properly court her.

Or, I'm a slut for the good old favorites - an arranged royal marriage, a princess and her bodyguard, masquerade balls, hell, give me supernatural options or your ideas as well!

Basic terms, courtly German aristocracy, Baron Hans von Hammer. He's 20th century, but I can move him about anywhere since the wars that define him can, weirdly enough, be found anywhere and any time in Europe. A lot of those plots sound really fun to me, the slow burning thing.

He's very formal and restrained outwardly, but there's a mountain of feeling underneath the courtly old aristocratic manners - as well as the yawning chasm of the things he'll have seen in any era that make him think he's unsuitable as anything else but a fighter. For cross canon/media, also pretty open. One nice perk of Destiny is Earth and Humanity existing, so blending of canons can happen a little easier. That, or handwaving as being a different timeline, in (another) pocket universe, or something similar.

- An easy cross canon setup could be Mara having ventured into a different reality or universe due to some Threat to humanity there (maybe someone sent up a prayer or signal into space, hoping for a miracle but not expecting an answer). - Alternatively, perhaps she's known for X amount of time of humans that evolved elsewhere and she peeks in on their system/universe from time to time like an infrequently appearing deity, possibly seeing their existence as a "backup plan" if humanity gets wiped out in her universe.

Canon-focused ideas:
- Interactions with other Awoken and exploring the innate connection Mara has to her people. (and re: guardians, particularly that this connection and general Awoken abilities may transcend their Risen status and not be forgotten the way guardians' past lives generally are.)
- Would love to delve a little into the 'aftermath' of Mara's encounter with The Witness, and/or her divulging that information to someone. (Hearing that the enemy tried to recruit her and not only was she not enticed, she considered eliminating herself to remove any vague risk, might make some adjust their opinion of her. As if her dying fighting with humanity in every other timeline so far shouldn't be evidence enough of her allegiance.)
- This is a bit high concept admittedly, but playing around with some of the deeper nuances and lore implications of her role in the universe(s) and her capabilities. Mara is essentially a Gardner in her own right (having created the Distributary and all that entails) and arguably has interest in impacting/partaking in The Game between the Gardner and the Winnower ("what hatches when you promote a queen? What new board does she claim her place on?" from Tyrannocide lore, for example). There's also her relationship with the Nine, communicating with the Ancients, and the unspecified power(s) she took from Oryx. Aside from the constant goal of ensuring Humanity survives. Obviously not easy stuff to dig into, but it's a viewpoint that definitely informs the character and it'd be nice to get into it at least once.

Man I would love like a whole arc where we get to do both. Start with some trauma bonding via training/missions and then maybe when Steve comes to get Bucky he can be like grab her too and angst/Avengers stuff?

Mmm, the only thing with trauma bonding is that Bucky gets wiped every time he questions anything as the WS, and I'm guessing River would too... BUT we could also do a thing where they are mid-mission together and things start to come back to them and they decide to try to escape, if that works? With requisite flashbacks to training, maybe other moments where they came back to themselves briefly and needed to be wiped? And they realize they've actually got a cyclical sort of history under all that...

Oh shoot no when you are right you are right. The wiping does provide a problem.

I like this idea! Them realizing Something Is Not Right maybe during a longer mission where, you know, can't pull them out and wipe them mid-mission and ruin months worth of undercover/covert work or whatnot.

The fact that they have Bucky do mission reports suggests to me that they don't have eyes and ears on them at all times. Plus, Hydra seems confident enough in their tech and training that they sort of assume things will go smoothly, and wipe them if they don't. Bucky was able to sneak into Pierce's place, which means at least Pierce isn't constantly monitoring him. There could be chances for River and Bucky to talk.

(Sidenote: I have River's codename as The Operative, because I like giving myself feelings)

I was thinking about maybe a trigger for at least one of them (for Bucky it'd be seeing something related to Steve or other people he knew from home/the war). Then I was thinking the other one would have to have a reason not to just report in and have their partner wiped. Maybe they get overpowered and convinced or maybe they have some doubts of their own for one reason or another?

Another option was injury in the field, but it'd have to be something that didn't alert whoever was watching them. So no buildings falling on their heads but maybe some kind of sonic blast or concussion or something the handlers don't catch? The upside to that is we could have both of them get whammied at the same time.
