Let me guess. You're a top student who studies too hard?

[Shouto didn't really expect much out of this. So when someone actually did sit across from him, with a similar-esque sign as well, it was a little surprising.]

I don't really consider myself at the very top, but something like that. I heard it's good to get out more. Was that what happened to you?

Not quite. I just spent too much time being club captain, and kind of lost my chances with my crush because of it.

[She ended up dating another guy who swooped in during the karaoke party they invited him to, even if it was meant to celebrate him being the cycling club captain. Go figure.]

Err, I don't have to talk about that though. That seems inappropriate for a speed date.

[Talking about his crush to his potential date who-- may not even be here to date. Just be awkward. And need friends. Actually, perfectly up his alley.]

So, Todoroki! I actually came over because I thought your hair looked really interesting. Also...

That seems to have an interesting story behind it.

[The guy across from him was pretty open for a first interaction, and despite the sad(?) news, Shouto couldn't tell if he should genuinely feel bad or not.]

That sounds unfortunate. I'm sorry.

[Hopefully this time will be good healing for --he has to glance down at the sign again-- Teshima. The change of topic, abruptly thrown in his court about himself, was a little jarring, though.]

My hair? It's a mix from both my mother's and dad's side. As for the scar, it's a little more complicated. [A topic that might not be the best for a 'first date'.]

If you don't mind me asking, where do you go to school?

Don't be. If it's not meant to be, then it's fine.

[Though that's what he says about cycling but also will fight to death for it, so maybe he's just got his priorities in the wrong place. He nods at the answer though, as though that explains why it's split perfectly in half. Genetics are great.

Sohoku High in Chiba. I know, it's a bit far, but I was visiting family in the area and just happened to hear about this.

[Being that he wasn't an expert love guru, Shouto nodded and took the other's word. Best to not place an opinion when he doesn't even know half the story.

He is also relieved for now that the issue isn't pressed. Not that his family drama was so much a secret anymore, but considering how his mother was soon to be out of the hospital, no reason get deep into it.]

I go to U.A. High, so not far. Is there a reason you decided to go three hours out if your family is here?

My aunt lives in the area, so that's why we're visiting. She just so happened to know about this whole event, so she roped me into it. I'll be heading back to Chiba the day after tomorrow.

[He's... admittedly not a follower of hero news. He's pretty much the ordinary guy in this world of extraordinary people. Chiba also was fairly peaceful compared to Tokyo.]

Maybe. She's been saying I've got wheels on my brain 24/7.

[Which is a partial answer to both points. Though, he supposed he won't get that by just saying wheels. There were many possibilities, after all.]

I do competitive cycling. Ever heard it before?

[Good thing Teshima elaborated, because Shouto was trying to figure out what wheels on the brain meant. Leaning towards like gears, even if it didn't make sense.]

Ohh, like bicycle cycling, right? I've seen it on T.V. before, but haven't done it myself. Is that what you go to school for?

Not exactly. Sohoku's a regular high school, but I'm part of the cycling club. It's-- a passion, you could say. I'd like to be able to ride a bike around the world one day.

[You know, if villains don't start blowing up Tour de France routes or something. Minor concerns and all that, you know.]

It's definitely not a specialty school like UA. I heard the enrollment process there is really intense, and that it's not easy to get into it.

That sounds like a nice goal to reach for, especially if that is your passion.

[Shouto can respect people who have a goal they work towards, doesn't have to be quirk related or not. Hopefully those roads will be clear when Teshima takes off one day.]

It's true that for most students it's a hard entrance to qualify for. A handful get in through recommendation.

Thanks. I'm working hard for it, but we'll just have to see.

[It's a nice sentiment, though if Junta were honest, he isn't very certain. Still, he did his best for Interhigh and could confidently say his efforts paid off, are still paying off, even if he's not much of an elite.
