The Boarding School Meme

It's like your high school AU meme with an extra step - each student and even some staff are provided their own living quarters within the school campus. Nobody has to roll up in a nice car, or run towards the train station with a toast in their mouth (they can still do that when they're late to class though). So try to enjoy it, you're gonna be here for a whole year.

3. Welcome back to school.

TYPE:

1. Single-Sex - A girls only, or boys only school. They can be conveniently right next to each other, with a lot of sneaking around going on, or rivalries between clubs and sports teams.
2. Co-Ed - Boys and girls are integrated.
3. Military/Monastic- A grittier/holier version. Instead of dorms, students are expected to live in barracks/temples.
4. Horror - The school's secluded campus is the least creepy thing going on here. The school itself could be haunted, home to a cult, or someone got dared to summon a demon.
5. Super/Magic - A school for teaching a new generation of kids with superhuman and/or magical abilities. Can crossover with military or horror, depending on your tastes.

PROMPTS:

1. first day
Catch up with old friends, brave new teachers, fight your way through the sea of students, and hope you're in the right classroom. Oh, you're the new kid. Well, that's okay as long as you've got more than enough summer vacation anecdotes to fill ten pages of Times New Roman size 12, single-spaced.

2. first period
You're gonna be late! Or are you already there? Class hasn't started just yet, so chat it up or copy your classmate's homework before the teacher gets here.

3. lesson proper
You're probably diligently taking notes, looking out the window daydreaming or reciting in class, much to your teacher's delight - or dismay. Try not to be too obvious when counting down the minutes and pass that note as discreetly as possible.

4. faculty
Have a bone to pick with your terror math teacher. A crush on the cute chemistry teacher? There might be something you want to ask your homeroom teacher about. In any case, you plan on seeing a faculty member today. Or maybe they plan on seeing you!

5. lunch break
Man, you are starving. Hopefully, today's menu has something good. If the crowded cafeteria's not your thing, try the rooftop.

6. hooky
One of you is skipping class. You should try talking them out of it if that's your thing.

7. detention
What on earth did you do to get this? Oh well. Detention can't be that bad when you've got all these very nice, approachable model students around to talk to.

8. p.e.
Baseball, basketball, dodgeball - no matter the sport, just remember: you are the star. It's you. At least, you hope it is.

9. home ec
Sewing! Cooking! ... Try not to burn the school down!

10. lab work
Frog dissections! Explosions!

11. school fair/festival
Every school has one of these. What's your class doing this year?

12. theater
Oh boy, oh boy, being the star of this play is your dream. It isn't? Oh. You're still helping with the props and costumes, right?

13. library
If you need to look something up or just want some peace and quiet, this is the place. Whatever you do, shh, people are trying to read.

14. bully
Whether they take the form of Nelson Muntz or Regina George, if you choose to meet them at the gym at four o' clock or else, be ready to face the consequences... or maybe you don't have to. Not when someone's here to help you out. (This can go either way - one of the participants can be the bully or someone helping the victim.)

15. tutor
You're having trouble with a class or you're trying to make up for the days you were absent. It's a good thing someone was nice enough to offer their assistance.

16. clubs
Assuming that you actually have one. Are you writing for the school paper? Part of the student council? The marching band? Maybe you're a member of one of those weird occult clubs or something...

17. prom
Do you have a dress? A date? Who are you voting for prom king? Is being on prom committee is driving you crazy? Do you even care?

18. graduation
Well, it was fun while it lasted. It's time to say those last words, settle those scores and get ready to grow up.

19. roll again/make your own scenario
Getting to your new room and meeting the roommates, sneaking into or heading on over to the boys/girls campus, school visits, field trips, going to the nearest town, winter or spring break - you name it!

[Given what Alucard might wish to do in his free time (lurk in the library or try to bribe his way into the home economics kitchen, or failing either find someone to practice fencing with), this is not it. Very specifically he is no fan of walking down unmarked trail paths on the school's abortorium because someone found something weird but wants another set of overly sharp eyes.

But this is what has happened all the same. Alucard's pulled on a warm coat to fight the bitterly cold January weather and thick boots that would crunch through snow if there was any on the ground. There isn't though, only the debris of long dead leaves and patches of ice. His eyes move from the too barren forest to Soma, the sigh he makes a little too loud.]

Are you sure we're almost there?

[He has nothing against Soma himself. The feeling is neutral if Alucard was to be entirely truthful. But the sun is beginning to hang low in the sky and if there is something suspect to be had, Alucard would prefer to do the full investigation and return in daylight.

[At Stovington Academy, there's a certain standard of behavior expected from all students, enshrined in school policy and enforced by faculty. Even something as trivial as being caught out of uniform can draw the wrong kind of attention.

And Lys doesn't get in trouble. Lys doesn't play hooky, or litter, or smoke cigarettes on campus. She doesn't pick fights with other students or argue with her teachers. Despite her struggling grades and lack of old money connections, her attendance made possible only by a sports scholarship, she's always been⁠—nominally at least⁠—one of "the good ones".

Until today.]

They started it.

[Arms folded defensively, she slumps down another inch in her chair, looking anywhere except across the counselor's desk at Aerith. Just as stubbornly, she ignores the deep and painful scratches marking up her face, carved there by the head cheerleader's manicured nails during their nasty hallway scuffle earlier that morning.]

[Rich noble, goes to a magic academy within a medieval fantasy setting. If AU'd into a modern-day non-magical setting, she'd just be known as the daughter of a major politician. Gets good grades and always knows the answer in class, but comes across as stuck-up and hard to get along with. Probably does something elegant after school, like ballet or flower arranging.]

[In life, there are doors that cannot be opened by birthright alone, regardless of the political connections which may come along with it. Certain ambitions required more than simply being the mayor's daughter. Letters of recommendation, complimentary remarks added to one's permanent record, glowing records of extracurricular achievements and volunteer work...of such things were golden tickets made, easily leveraged when the right opportunity arose.

From the school's perspective, it's a straightforward matter. Why pay a tutor to keep the football team's best wide receiver from failing her classes, losing her sports scholarship in the process, when a tutor can simply be "volunteered" from among the best and brightest of the student body? Everyone wins! And Lys certainly gives off the impression of someone who feels like a winner. Even as she scoots her chair closer, hunching over the library table—lifelong habit prompting her to try and appear smaller, less of an awkward monolith looming over everyone else—relieved gratitude rolls off her in palpable waves, highlighting the (idiotically) bright smile plastered on her face.]

Hey, so...I really appreciate you helping me out like this. Like, so much. I totally owe you one!

[She almost forgets to keep her voice down, such is the raw force of her appreciation. Because make no mistake, it's help she most definitely needs; a single glance at the papers laid out on the table like a losing poker hand is all the proof required. Whatever the subject, whether homework or exams, they're more red ink than black, marked all over with corrections and score deductions.]
