Well, whether you're striking out on your own for the first time or you just need a change of pace, you're getting on that train and moving! A quiet little village with a beach, a museum, a store...this is gonna be great! (maybe)
[Let me tell you how it's done, hmm?]
1. Post with your character, canon and preferences in the subject line
2. Tag others and get your RNG on. Or just choose one. Or make up a scenario of your own!
3. Thread Thread Thread!
4. Fun times!
1.On the way!
Isn't it exciting? A change of pace! A whole new town! A fresh start! In just a little while you'll be there! But who's this on the train next to you? Are they moving, too?
2.Just moved in!
A new life, a new home...and a new HUGE debt. That...That house is kind of small for all that money isn't it? B-But it's okay! You can do this! At least the neighbors are nice!
3.What can I do ya for?
Oh, hi, neighbor! Nice to meet ya! Well, if there's anything I can do...
Uh...you need me to...
Okay, I can get that for-
What, no, I can't buy that from you that price is ridiculous.
But I never said...
WHAT.
4.Fishing!
Oh man. Fishing is so relaxing. Or maybe you're out to catch all the fish! This will be a stringfish for sure! ...Oh, it's a barbel steed. Well, maybe the next one! Just a bitterling. Well this one here! Just a dace?! Well maybe the next one...! Shut up, you'll scare them away...!
5.Bug-Catching!
Gotta be quiet. Get that butterfly. Gotta be quick! Get that dragonfly! AGH! BEES!
6.Shakin' them trees
You're gonna sell every piece of fruit you can get your hands on! But maybe you'll get lucky and find something besides fruit. Maybe money, maybe furniture, maybe...AAAAGH! BEEEEEES!
7.House keeping!
Maybe your friend can help you? This goes over there, that goes over here...You just want to make your house look beautiful and perfect! Apply that fung shui knowledge! Ugh, you really should clean up...AAAAAAAAGH!
8.Museum
There's nothing even in this place. What is this?
Or perhaps there's lots of stuff. Oh, that? Yeah, you donated that. That too. All of this. Yeah, that's just a T-Rex Skeleton you found No big deal. Whatever.
9.Town Improvement!
Time to beautify your town! Picking weeds, planting trees, planting flowers...Oh, your town is going to be Oh-so-beautifu- Hey. HEY. Don't go running through those flowers! Nononono I just planted that tree! Put down that axe! Why don't YOU try picking some weeds sometime?!

Are you busy Heather? I thought maybe we could go out and catch bugs together like we used to do when you were little.
no subject
Busy? Well- [Heather looked at the nets in her dad's hands. The fact he was talking about when she was a kid was sort of embarrassing, and she was in the middle of an errand, but how could she say no to her dad looking so happy about bonding time?]
...No, I'm not busy.
no subject
I'm glad I caught you when you were free. Here- [Just gonna hand her one of the nets.] Maybe you can start a bug collection while we're here.
no subject
I don't think we really have room in the house right now for a bug collection, Dad. Building one up at the museum would probably be a better idea if I were to even do it. [She wasn't going to admit that she sort of wanted a bug collection. Nope.]
no subject
[As much as he likes to try to make his daughter happy, he doesn't want any creepy crawlies loose in the house. At least not any live ones.]
I'm sure the museum would be happy to house your collection though.
[Yeah going bug catching today is definitely more for Heather's sake than his own.]
no subject
I don't even know where to look first, I haven't done this in forever... Where do you even find a praying mantis at in a normal town for than matter? [Yeah, Heather's going for something uncommon. Praying mantis are too cool to pass up when your dad tells you you can keep a bug for a pet.]
[Heather just looks at Harry expectantly, as if he knows where they'd be. Dads know everything after all.]
no subject
Hmm...
[Heather you were the bug enthusiast here! Maybe if it was a common bug he'd have an idea, but really he's just guessing in the dark here.]
Well we could look around buildings or trees. I've never looked for one before, but when I have seen one they did seem to be around those things.
[Of course when he saw them they were out of their normal environment. So he is no help at all.]
no subject
Net in hands, Heather was looking around the bases of the trees into the grass- quite vigorously for someone who tried before to not look all that into bug catching. What could she say, doing this again after so long was reviving that thrill of the hunt for her.]
So far I've only seen some ladybugs and a grasshopper or two. Hmph.
no subject
I saw a spider and some beetles, but no pray mantis yet. Maybe if we look somewhere else?
no subject
I guess so. There's a lot of trees throughout town to check. [Too bad every Animal Crossing local knows that the praying mantis are only found on flowers. They weren't looking at those yet, though.]
no subject
I'm sure we'll find one eventually. Let's look by the train station.
[And on the way there he's going to be keeping an eye out for this bug! Who knows maybe there are some flowers along the way. ]
no subject
I figured they would be an easier find in the Spring, guess I was wrong. Do you really think they'd be near the train station?
no subject
[Man who even listens to Nook and plants them outside his store! Heather I thought you were a REBEL. At least if they kept walking Nook's store would be past the train station? Man which game's map are we going by here.]
no subject
[Hey now Heather didn't plant them by his store! She did by their house, did you see those nice flowers randomly show up next to the house one day and wonder where they came from? Just saying, most everyone plants them near Nook's because he is a flower hog.]
It'd help if the damned things didn't blend in with the grass. [I have no idea what map this is, just make it up as we go like I am haha.]
no subject
Isn't that what makes it fun? We could always go after something easier if you want to give up. I bet those beetles back there would make cute pets.
[Ok now he's just teasing cause he still doesn't mind finding this praying mantis. The more time he gets to spend with his daughter is always nice.]
no subject
[Heather starts searching more seriously than before now. Look what you did Harry, you pushed her. This has practically turned into a challenge to prove she can do it now.]
no subject
I don't think you'd want to go after something easier even if you were a kid.
[That gets Harry seriously searching as well though and not only in trees. Hopefully they are working their way towards Nook's shop. No they totally are. The closer they get the more and more flowers there are to look at.]
no subject
But yeah, there were a lot of flowers at this point. She wasn't sure if this was a place they'd be though, Heather wasn't exactly a praying mantis expert after all.]
Do you think they'd be on flowers at all?
[She knew Harry wasn't one either, but it didn't hurt to ask.]
no subject
[He didn't know if any of them were praying mantids, but the flowers were showing more promise than the trees. If anything there were a lot of butterflies around. Maybe Heather would want to start another butterfly collection... but for now he's kneeling down to look at the flowers better. ]
Maybe we should have asked that owl at the museum before we started looking. I'm sure he would have known.
[ITS TOO LATE FOR THAT NOW BUT...]
no subject
Butterflies were everywhere, boring. Also more ladybugs, typical flower bugs. Heather was about to give up looking in them at this rate, but--]
Wait, I found one! It's mine! [Yep, there was a little praying mantis hanging out on a patch of white cosmos. Heather's determination filled up as she slowly crept up on it. The net was clutched in her hands, ready to strike, and she got her opportunity and swung--
--and narrowly missed the bug. It flew off to safety.] Okay...maybe not.
no subject
Don't just let it get away!
[He looks really silly chasing after a bug, but the silliest part is how he thinks swinging his net like that after it was going to catch it. The bug has to land sometime though and when it does that is when Harry strikes.
Sadly after chasing it with his net the bug is already flying away again before he can even finish swinging it.]
no subject
Another swing of the net. Miss. She'd wait for the damned thing to land and strike again. It took a few seconds, but they felt like minutes to wait for. Finally the mantis landed again.
Heather was not missing this chance again. She went for the strike again, and this time the praying mantis launched itself off the flowers to fly but it was too slow, and was greeted by netting.]
Yes, got it! [She probably should have felt silly for being so proud about catching a bug, but she didn't. This mantis was worth it.]
no subject
Good job! What are you going to name it? [Just peering at it closer now that it's in the net.]
no subject
I'm not sure..I'll have to have more time to think about that. I only just caught it, you know. [Also I guess because this is the Animal Crossing world, the mantis is magically in a container suddenly?
Either way- aww yeah, Heather got that praying mantis she wanted. Maybe hanging out with her dad doing childish things wasn't so bad every now and then.]
