Who are you?
Pick a department -
1) Command & Control. Captains and command staff; admirals; pilots.
2) Medical & Science. Doctors, scientific specialists and analysts, including staff not in the chain of command.
3) Engineering & Security. Including all engineers, all stereotypical throwaway 'redshirts', and communications staff.

Pick a rank -
1) Crewman. You're an enlisted person. Whatever expertise you might have, you have to obey the officers around you in everything.
2) Chief. Enlisted you may be, but you've gained expertise and experience. You know what you're doing better than many of those officers do.
3) Cadet. You're in Starfleet Academy, you haven't even graduated yet. Just a little baby pre-officer.
4) Ensign. Freshly graduated, at the bottom of the officer heap.
5) Lieutenant (Junior Grade), Lieutenant. Finally gained some command of your own.
6) Lieutenant Commander, Commander. You're eligible to command a starship now.
7) Captain. You have a command of your own. Time for that responsibility to be on your shoulders.
8) Admiral. Command of multiple ships.

Other -
1) Federation citizen. Scientist or consultant? Diplomatic Corps?
2) Alien. Are you hostile? In need of rescue? Curious about this new encounter?
3) Enemy. Are you in battle with Starfleet? Across the negotiating table? Bringing it down from within?

What's happening?
Exploration -
1) Observing astronomical phenomenon. This will be fascinating! For science!
2) You've discovered a new alien race. Time for first contact.
3) Space-time anomalies. Something weird is happening with the ship…
4) Survival. You're stranded on a new planet/crash-landed. You must survive, either among the local culture or in the wilderness.
5) Other!

Fighting -
1) Space battle. It's your duty to meet the enemy. Could be the Borg, or the Dominion, or the Klingons.
2) Boarded! The ship's got hostiles on board. Time to fight compartment to compartment. Maybe they've taken the ship and it's time to take it back.
3) Covert operations. Going undercover, disguised, to find information. Maybe you're a spy in Starfleet itself.
4) Disaster. Systems are out, there's no communication, and you have to figure out how to get out of this mess with limited tools at hand.
5) Rescue. Someone's in danger. A space station running out of air? A planet in danger of exploding? Go rescue them!
6) Other!

Diplomacy & Politics -
1) Negotiations. Are you ending a war? Beginning trade relations? Is this a continuation of first contact?
2) Playing host. You have diplomats/kings/leaders on your ship, and you have to impress them.
3) Elections. Is it for President of the Federation? Are you supervising an election on another world?

[Lydia jogs through the gleaming halls of the Enterprise, her padd clutched to her chest, a stylus tucked behind her ear as she ducks around strolling redshirts. She's been summoned to the bridge to speak with Commander Spock and one does not make the Chief Science Officer of your vessel wait. She takes a moment to fix her hair and pull her skirt into some semblance of neatness before striding onto the bridge. Commander Spock won't care about her appearance, but there are other very important members of staff on the bridge, and she wants to make a good impression every time she sees them. She's got her eye on a promotion, dammit.

Halting beside Commander Spock's station, she salutes quickly.] Commander, you wished to see me?

"They're onboard," was the last warning that Natasha received from the security team before the comm links failed. The ship encountered a hostile shuttle that seemed entirely too determined to kamikaze itself against them. A hole was breached, and before long there were hundreds of alien creatures scrambling aboard without regard to the lack of atmosphere in space.

Alarms were raised, and nonessential crew were scrambling to barricade themselves in their quarters to give the fighters more room to subdue the threat. Clint was moving purposefully down the hall, a child riding on his shoulders.

"Bringing this one to her parents in Sector 3, then I'll head back to secure medbay." There was no time for greetings, even if Tasha officially outranked him. "Captain says they're a parasite species, so don't get near them if you can help it."

Exploration - Survival

[Most of the crew of the failed shuttle had been safely beamed back aboard the Enterprise once it became clear that the vessel was going to crash. But there was a malfunction with Orihime's communicator pin. Her only option was to buckle down, hold on tight, and pray.]

[The wreckage is severe. If it weren't for her powers, she would probably be dead. The use of her shield lessened the impact significantly, but the young medical ensign is still wounded and unconscious, slumped in her seat and bleeding from a number of small cuts and scratches.]

Routine - Mess Hall

[Lunch breaks make up the very best part of the day, as far as Orihime's concerned. It's nice to step away from sickbay long enough to get a hot meal, and the replicators are amazing. She can order any dish she wants. Anything! --Ooh, they have a salmon special?]

[The machine spits out her meal on a tray, which Orihime accepts.]

[It doesn't hurt to be polite...even if it's just a machine. (She thinks it's funny, anyway.) As she scans the room for a place to sit, she recognizes Scotty immediately as that guy with the unusual accent. She loves listening to him talk! Beaming, the medical ensign hurries to his table.]

[The hall lights flicker, giving Orihime pause as she tilts her head back. That's unusual. She can't help but tense in anticipation, and sure enough, the call for an alert soon blares throughout the ship. But instead of being called to sickbay, the orders instead instruct each crew member to return to their quarters to await further instructions.]

[Stranger and stranger. But she does what she's told, heading for the lift. She'd just finished her shift anyway, so this isn't anything so different. Nonetheless, she's worried...]

[Today is the day of Lydia's first away team mission. She'd woken way before her alarm said to, spent far too long making sure her uniform was perfectly pressed and her hair was perfectly done and her makeup was perfectly applied — shut up, first impressions count, okay — and was down in the mess hall bright and early for her absolutely delicious replicator breakfast.

Okay, so it still mostly tastes like cardboard, but she's got promises from Engineering that they're working on fixing that.

She's the first to report in the transporter room, and decides to spend her time brushing imaginary wrinkles out of her blue uniform, then re-reading all the information she had compiled on her padd while she waits for the others to show up.]
