In fact, he's mostly amused by the entire thing as he presses the ring onto Riddle's finger. It's a pretty thing made of coral and gemstone.]

Earth was like heaven, really. Well, that's what Earth people would say, right? It was certainly better than New Genesis. It was...free.

Granted, a large part of that was who he was co-habituating with, to put it mildly. Barda was...Barda was.

Calling her a force of nature was accurate yet entirely failed to encompass the whole. She had taken to their new planet with verve and her traditional boldness, and every day together, he fell in love with her a little bit more. Which had led him, in a roundabout way, to Earth customs and traditions.

They'd tried a number of them. TV dinners, walks in the park. Driving. That one seemed a bit stupid in retrospect. But some were good. Like the one he was planning now, because living with Barda bred many things, and at the top of the list was certainty. The trick had been getting her out of the apartment all day without arousing her suspicions. So he'd bided his time, and waited. Once the main piece of the puzzle was in place - her sighing at a dress in a shop window - he could spring the plan.

He'd let a few errands build up, and had asked her to do them, and he would make dinner when he was done with things around the apartment. Once she had departed, well, it was an all-out rush. The dress was wrapped elegantly and left on the bed. And he not only worked on the romantic dinner, but on concealing it. It took a lot of air freshener spray, really. But he wanted it to be a complete surprise.

Get her in, usher her into the bedroom, kiss kiss over the new dress (oh, please), let her get change, then quickly set it all out and be waiting for her, in a tux.

Because Mister Miracle couldn't make it look easy, right? But he'd left his best trick for last...
