( He knows Jason's up there. Of course he does. He's Batman. He knows and yet, he still lets himself walk towards the pump station β€” to the mess he knows is inevitable, just hopefully in a way that doesn't harm the citizens of Gotham; that may of course be up to Jason in the end.

Like a shadow, he recedes into the darkness of the night, something Gordon has simply accepted by now in how abrupt their conversations can end sometimes; maybe he's just awkward at saying goodbyes. Funny. This right here in itself could possibly be considered such a thing with Jason depending on how things go. Is he up for that? Who knows.

What he does know is that Jason doesn't need to go down this path and if he can bring him off it β€” even if he doesn't want to come home with him, it's enough, even if a goodbye.

He's trained Jason to know when another approaches him and so he expects him to know that he's up here with him, but. Then again. With how messed up he seems to be on that drug and the way his mind is constantly in a state of confused whiplash from what he can tell, maybe he doesn't know. Maybe he doesn't want to. So, from the shadows, comes his voice. Low β€” not a growl, but soft despite its conviction. )

Why are you doing this, Jason?
