Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

[This is why she only travels first class. This dingy, cheap motel with its peculiar odour and scratchy sheets was simply not acceptable. When something had managed to interrupt their Apparation, leaving Narcissa and her Charms Master stranded in the middle of nowhere, a sinking feeling had hit the witch. Master Thomas had given her a cheerful look and said, "Oh, yeah! I forgot about this phenomenon. There's an energy sink through here twice a year; plays havoc with your major spells. We'll be fine to head out in a couple days."

Even more grating than his annoying tendency to drop the 'of' from his sentences where it would normally be required was the distinct lack of any decent accommodation in this tired little town. Discovering only the most basic of magic would work - nothing past third year level - was an affront to her entire existence, and the pretty blonde witch is now glaring at his snoring form, curled up peacefully on the next bed.

This is just not happening.

Throwing aside the covers, Narcissa slips her feet into her shoes and slinks towards the door. Timing her exit with his odd little snorts is easy, and she relishes the slighter cooler air outside their room. Still in the elegant cashmere shift she'd put on this morning, Narcissa begins the years-old habit she's employed since she was a small child and unable to sleep, and walks.

Her heels make a dull click on the concrete surrounding the long stretch of rooms, and three in the morning means she shouldn't be bothering anyone with her pacing. On the fourth pass, she notices light bleeding through from behind a set of curtains.]

[Dean couldn't sleep either. He was working a particularly tough case with Sam back at Bobby's trying to pick out the details on how to kill the bastard they were tracking.

Being alone wasn't doing him any good. Checking the clock and seeing it was three in the freaking morning, he decided that was it. He closed his laptop and got up to give a lazy stretch. A trip to the coke machine and then he'd try to get an hour or so at least. He should attempt it at some point anyway.

Slipping on his jacket and his boots, he headed out and paused when he saw he had company, apparently.]

Uh, well, didn't expect to see anyone else out here. Heading to your room?

[She narrowly avoids walking into him; her ears had picked up the rattling of the door handle between heel clicks.

He seems surprised to see anyone else up at this hour, and she's startled enough in return to give an honest answer.]

Away from it, actually. For as long as possible, lest I strangle someone.

[Crisp English tones sound odd against his American accent; another reminder that she shouldn't be here.]

Huh. [He gave a curious look as he shut the door behind him.]

Trouble back at the room then, huh?

There's only so much snoring I can take before the urge to smother people with their pillows becomes too much to bear.

[She looks far too proper to actually kill someone in their sleep, so there's that.]

Sounds tough. [He's smirking a little bit.

Hey, she's pretty hot. The accent, especially.

That and he likes feisty women. But even he's a little bit too tired to pull out all the stops flirting right now.]

Want to go grab something to drink from the machine with me?

You've no idea the restraint I'm exercising. [Her smirk matches his, and while dark of night invitations from strangers are usually things she'd decline, his easy smile and confident stance changes her mind.]

If I knew what that meant, I'd say yes - but I wouldn't say no to some company.

What? [He gave a curious look as he started to lead the way towards the soda machine not far away.]

You don't have vending machines where you're from?

Not that I've noticed..?

[She's prevaricating until she sees it, then realisation hits.]

They haven't really caught on. I'm from a small village. [Wizarding London is small!]

Huh... [He thought London or wherever this chick was from would have vending machines of all things.

Shrugging it off for now, he went to get a couple sodas out of the machine and passed her one.]

Well, maybe you can bring'em back to your village. At least tell people how convenient they are.

[He hasn't exactly put together anything off or supernatural about her yet... to him, she's a kinda feisty British chick. And really, there were worst ways to spend an evening.

If he notices her struggle to open the can, he doesn't mention it at least.]

[She's not silly enough to draw her wand unless she's sure of her company. Of course, mistakes do happen, but Narcissa is a careful witch, despite his obvious potential to be distracting visually.]

Mm, my parents are... traditionalists, shall we say? It's a pleasure, Dean, I'm sure.

What brings you around here anyway?

...transportation issues. We're stuck for a couple of days, I think.

[He looks like a Muggle. She's not going to tell him they hit a biannual magical dead spot while Apparating. He's think she was nuts, and frankly, she doesn't want cute guys thinking she's nuts.]

Ah, that's tough. Hey, maybe you can look around the town at least... might be something interesting worth checking out.

[Definitely wouldn't understand magic... or, well, he did. It just never went all that well for him.]

I'm working a case. Nothing big... and trust me, you probably don't want to know the details. [Telling cute girls about gruesome murders wasn't a great way to make a good first impression either.]

With the FBI. I'm here on a case... a few murders. We're trying to track down just who's doing it.

The victims have pretty much been torn to shreds... hell of a sight. [And not in the good way.]
