The Basic Five 1. Sense of Sight - Whether you woke up that way, had an accident, a brain tumor expanded or you had a bad reaction to something, you're now blind. Fully and completely. Watch out for that bu--*wince* 2. Sense of Smell - Did someone step in dog crap? It could be you, but you'd never know. You've lost your sense of smell. I guess there's no stopping by the roses for you, huh? 3. Sense of Hearing - "I'M NOT YELLING!!" Yes, yes you are. And no matter how loud you crank AC/DC, you're never hearing Highway to Hell again. Guess I shouldn't have gotten you the Stones compalition CD's, huh? 4. Sense of Taste - No, it doesn't taste like chicken. In fact, it doesn't taste like anything. Perfect time to get that friend that burns everything to cook for you - at least it'll make them happy and you can smile through the whole ordeal. 5. Sense of Touch - Where'd you get that bruise? Or that gaping knife wound? No clue. You have utterly lost the ability to feel anything, like your body is enveloped in fuzzy packing tape. Punch the wall all you want, you ain't gonna feel anything. The Guiding Factors 6. Sense of Right and Wrong - Tripping people that get in your way? Taking candy from babies? Killing someone that hurt you and yours? All sound like pretty good ideas right about now. Your entire moral code has been thrown into the 'grey' area. There is no right or wrong, only what you want. 7. Sense of Decency - Things that just 'aren't done' are in play for you now. Evicting old ladies and orphans because they can't pay? Pff. Good. Lousy Mooching leeches. Hitting on that underage and naive little thing? Puh-leeze, they're an easy mark. Deflower, deport and debauch yourself to your heart's content. 8. Sense of Self - You don't even know who you are anymore. What are you doing with your life? What's it all mean? What the hell's it for? Why even bother to get up in the morning? Are you going to go try and 'find' yourself? Or just give up? 9. Sense of Preservation - Your life? Means about as much as a mouse fart. Why should you step out of the way of that speeding train? You were there first. Mouthing off to that huge, angry, overpumped steroid-faced goon sounds like a good idea too. He took your seat. And he smells. 10. Sense of Empathy - That ability that lets you put yourself in the shoes of others, to relate to them? Gone. No, you don't know what they're feeling, and quite frankly, you don't want to. You have your own things to deal with, and they're much more important. Why? Because they're yours. The Quirky Ones 11. Sense of Humor - Wait, am I supposed to laugh now? You have to take your cue from those around you, laughing when they do, usually a little bit late and a little too long. Not even a fart joke will crack a smile. 12. Sense of Direction - You couldn't find your ass with both hands. Literally. You tried. And wound up getting thrown in the clink for inappropriate conduct with a nun. Don't drop the soa-- Too late. 13. Sense of Modesty - So what if you're using a belt as a skirt. It looks good, right? Bending over and showing off too much isn't an issue for you, neither is changing in the middle of the store if you just have to wear that cute little shirt now. 14. Sense of Fashion - Yes, you think a pink polka-dotted bikini top goes just smashingly with the neon green bellbottoms. Bubblewrap tops? Freakin' awesome. Put it on and flaunt it, and watch people's eyes bleed. 15. Sense of Timing - "What do you mean now's a bad time?" Yes, because you think trying to pick up a girl at her husband's funeral is a good thing. What? She's single. You're late to everything. A clock? Wassat? Strange, foreign words... 16. Murphy had woken up that morning to the sound of everything being muffled and with a weird sort of tin to it. He had been trying to wiggle a finger in his ear to get whatever was in there dislodged. Eventually though, he just began to hear less and less. It really hit him as he was about to walk across a busy street into oncoming traffic.

The street had been free of cars as he started to walk toward the sidewalk. He actually managed to walk into this one guy as he made his way closer to the cross walk. Screaming at the man an 'excuse me,' before he got to where the light had been. He looked right, then left and was about to make his way across when something to his right caught his eye. He stepped into the street and couldn't hear the sound of a car beeping it's horn at him to get out of the way.

Shinji Hirako would murder Mayuri Kurotsuchi. It would be a grand debacle, a slow, painful diabolical deed which Soul Society would talk about for centuries to come in hushed, reverent tones. But first he would have to figure out how to make it so that his inner compass no longer pointed assbackwards into space, which he'd do RIGHT after he sucked up his spilt tea from the fancy little table he was seated in front of.

To elaborate: since Central 46 did not trust the Visored just yet, they had all been ordered to be subjected to various tests by the captain of the 12th division to ensure the stability of their powers and mental states. Kurotsuchi had used this opportunity to indulge in a little private experiment of his own, and had somehow managed to connect Sakanades sensory distortion power to Shinjis own mind- meaning that at random intervals left would become right, right become left, up down, in front of behind and vice versa- and to REALLY top it all off, this confusion had spread to his balance and internal map. Even if Shinji waited until his vision jumped into "right" mode he would still turn left when he meant to turn right, and walk backwards through corridors as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

And how was any of this Kuchiki Byakuyas headache? Because (un)fortunately, Shinji had been found walking into a wall by one Kuchiki Rukia out on patrol, and since the Kuchiki compound was nearby Shinji had managed to convince her to lead him there (by virtue of her holding onto a strip of cloth he held onto in one hand and leading him around like a lost child) where he could wait for medics to come pick him up. And since he had in fact saved her life once upon a time, Rukia had managed to convince her brother to let Soul Societys most annoying captain have tea inside his mansion, for her sake, pretty please?

And thus we once again arrived at our present situation: where a servant had attempted to give Shinji tea and Shinji had managed to pick up a tea-cup, bring it to his lips, then turn it upside down as he THOUGHT he was going to take a sip from it. Aaand now he was carefully lowering his head down, moving it in jerky motions left and right in order to position his head JUST above the spilt liquid.

"Worst thing is I gotta be real careful right now, Kuchiki junior."
-because in Shinjis eyes Ginrei would always be the Kuchiki captain and Byakuya the angry little brat tugging at his grandpas coattails-
"Ya got these rickety li'l tables I'd probably headbutt straight through unless I position m'self jes' right."

And he was enjoying himself FAR too much for a man in his condition.

This has been the third time today that Murphy has done something reckless, and without even considering what could happen to himself?

He had walked up to two robbers who were stealing from some older lady, and with that he managed to get a nice stab wound in the arm.

He had then was walking down the street to the local liquor store to get himself some smokes, and a drink when he came face to face with a guy trying to rob the store. Murphy made chase, and got into a massive brawl with the guy before taking him down.

Now, now he was trying to get into a fight with a local drug dealer, and his friends who were selling their wares on the local street corner. He was faced 3 to 1 without his gun because it got thrown out of his hands as he fought. And he was trying to dodge being skewered by another knife as he fought with one of the burlier dudes.

As if it had been something other than deliberate calculation that had ended with her in that car at that time of day as a single bullet had taken out the driver and sent her car into the river.

She still remembers the last thing she saw, the towncar filling up with water, glass shattering. She remembers, because it is the last thing before the endless dark. After that, there had been no need to run. Had been no ability to run, so Irene Adler remained in London, quiet, disgraced. Her clients sent quiet condolences through proxies, but she ignored them.

She lived still in her flat in Belgravia, she's hired a new maid, one whose perfume leaves trails through the house, one who made terrible tea, and one who no doubt spied on her every move for the British government.

Not that there was anything to spy on. She lived quietly, kept to herself, and haunted her own home with sensitive fingertips lingering along every line of furniture, every inch of wallpaper, guiding herself through the dark.
