We can change. I can change.

| Atonement is, in your eyes, a Sisyphean task. You'll never be able to redeem yourself, no matter if what you did was against your will and only allowed you to survive in a cruel world. Who could understand what you've done or think you could be forgiven when it comes to all your friends? Certainly you never believed redemption, so far away already, could come in the form of a person...or a romantic relationship.

Its peace is fraying at the edges, as everything else is, a flickering light in the twilight of her people.
For the moment, however, Rivendell is still a place of sanctuary for those who know the way. How it came to be that a witcher knew it is something her father has staunchly refused to tell her, which only makes her all the more curious.
Lord Elrond instructed his daughter to stay away from Geralt beyond the brief greeting they exchanged at the meal served upon his arrival, and she has been behaving... mostly. She hasn't spoken to him again, but she has watched, from a distance.
She made no effort to conceal this fact from the witcher. That would have been rather rude, she feels, and so in exchange for seeing, she allowed herself to be seen.
Eventually, though, this method of investigation became much too unsatisfactory. She had hoped that her father's attitude would soften in time, since he seemed inclined to let the witcher remain for however long he might need to, but not so.
Ah well. Hopefully a talk with the witcher will be worth all the scowling she'll be in for when father realises that she finally decided to go against his wishes. It'll have to be good, Lord Elrond has a magnificent scowl.
She finds Geralt in one of the gardens, his back turned to her though she's fairly certain that he knows she's there in spite of the quiet footfalls of elves. ]
You know, I don't think my father likes you very much.
[ Her voice is soft and quiet, warmed by the amused little smile on her lips. ]

Most of them, anyway. The exceptions to those rules are ones who quickly earn his respect. Bizarrely, he would consider Elrond among these few. Someone he respects, someone he trusts. It's just the topic of his daughter that seems to inspire some choice expressions from him.
Possibly, also the fact that he's smellier than the average human, swears more than the average human and brings trouble wherever he goes.
But Geralt isn't invested in pleasing Elrond by keeping his distance from Arwen, though he doesn't deliberately seek her out. However, when she seeks him out.. he has no intention of turning her away.
In fact, her observation earns her a soft laugh and pulls his attention away from the view and directly onto her, fixing his yellow eyes on her.]
I wouldn't know what it looks like when he likes something. Saves his smiles for you.

Stay here for long enough and you may meet my brothers, and then you will know three people who can make him smile.
[ She is exaggerating, of course. Lord Elrond smiles at plenty of things, but pointing that out wouldn't be nearly as funny. ]
And I must say, you don't seem to be overly generous with your smiles either, though it would please me to be proven wrong.

[He says wryly, not serious or sincere. His brothers are terribly important to him, but they're also menaces. He knows that well.
Still, he offers her a very small, soft smile but it doesn't come easily and doesn't stay long.]
You'll get in trouble if you're out here too long trying to find out.
