The Lap Pillow Meme

From TV Tropes: A good way to show the physical intimacy and trust which a couple have is to rest one's head on the other's lap. Usually, the man does the resting while the woman provides the lap, not only because of anatomical reasons but because the lap-owner is typically of a nurturing nature more associated with femininity. Bonus points if she's feeding him grapes or stroking his hair. In some cases this is done between people who are not necessarily lovers, to comfort someone who is weeping or injured.

Or, in the case of the meme: screw the rules, we'll do anything. Maybe they're tired and just found a good place to rest? Maybe both parties were asleep? Hard to tell. All we know is, someone's head is going to be on another person's lap. Shenanigans will ensue.

[Jericho's fierce debate has ended, for the time being, in a stalemate.

None of the androids seemed ready to bend an inch on their opposing viewpoints and, after several hours of argument, Norman's need for rest overcame his fear of being put to death and he simply collapsed. Though he doesn't know it yet, that act immediately extended his life by putting the androids in a bind where nobody considered it defensible to decide his fate when he couldn't speak for himself. For the time being, he's been left with rings of guards orbiting outward from where he sleeps and a single, long-standing resident of Jericho responsible for his immediate care when he awakens.

As it turns out, this long-standing resident happens to be one of the gentlest of Jericho's androids. Norman lies on his back with both his ocular visor and glove removed, eyeballs shifting fitfully behind his lids, and the back of his head pillowed on said android's lap. It'll be a strange position in which to awaken but for the time being, it's actually quite a bit easier on his neck and shoulders than the alternative would be.

( how in need of a good lap pillow eddie is sort of depends on the day. most times, he's got options. giant, sentient alien sort of options. venom's lap is nice, but it's also gooey and slimy and sometimes you find yourself sinking into it when you aren't careful. ideal sometimes, but not the best for a post-breakup, post-discovering-that-the-love-of-his-life-is-moving-on eddie. an eddie who barely left his sobbing into bowls of ice cream while watching soap operas phase of the healing process.

he isn't crying now, partially because he's sure that whatever margaery is wearing is something that he absolutely cannot afford to get his tear stains on. and whatever they're watching, maybe a cooking show, isn't the kind of thing that warrants tears, anyway.

[ being conjunxed to drift is honestly not that different from their lives before in some respects. they still snipe and argue, ratchet still works probably more than he should, drift still tells him off for it. they have most of their meals together, though, they recharge together, and there's a lot more sex.

and there's this: ratchet engrossed in a paper about some obscure technique used when transferring damaged spark-chambers, barely hearing drift's footsteps, until a familiar helm drops into his lap. ratchet cycles his optics, then lifts the datapad he was focused on, revealing his partner stretched out across their berth, bright optics focused on him.
