[ it's funny how easily you can talk yourself into a black tie invite only gala affair if you just act like you belong there. yelena's gown is a little outlandish compared to the rest of those in attendance, but no one looks at her twice as she makes her way through the party, except to compliment her. her trainers would be disappointed that she's picked a look that anyone would remember, and she frowns at the thought, selecting a flute of champagne from a tray to banish it from her mind before she moves away from the dance floor and to where the desserts are being served.

at this point she suspects it's impossible for the winter soldier to hide, but he seems to be trying as hard as he can to blend in, dressed in an unremarkable suit with a glove disguising his inorganic hand. he's leaned against the doorframe of a fairly wide entrance into the next room, and she could easily slip around him if she wanted to, but she decides she doesn't. ]

You're looking festive. [ he's not, and her smile is just shy of winking before she takes a sip from her glass. ] Enjoying the night?

[The when and where she is don't particularly matter to her. Keeping tabs on that sort of thing is old news by this point. She doesn't care to do it, unless she plans on sticking around for a while. And so far, she hasn't seen very much that makes her want to stick around.

Except for maybe the festiveness of the party she's invited herself to. No one seems to really notice her presence or mind that she's there, and she basks in the glow that watching normal people interact with one another gives her. And she's perfectly content to just stand on the sidelines, taking everything in. Until she realizes that she's been standing beneath the mistletoe like a huge dateless loser.

Ugh.

She glances up at it, frowning a bit. And she has every intention of sidestepping and moving away. Except for when she glances down, there someone is. Standing in her personal space like she's issued an invitation to have her loneliness interrupted. All she can do is stare up at him for a moment.]

Kissing, then. [She teases, side of her mouth working upward into a dimpled grin.] Is that what you're here for?

[What's the point in dropping by your friend with benefits' motel room on Christmas if it isn't to do a little celebrating? Or maybe he's basically her boyfriend at this point, she isn't sure.
