[Sharlyan was not a city made for a man like Estinien. He'd endured a great many social gatherings under pretense of currying favor, but he'd grown ever more weary of the entire charade. Had he not already agreed to it some several weeks ago, he'd have bowed out of this academic gathering of minds, rather than wait for Alisaie and Alphinaud to finish their presentations.

But he wasn't there for the charade, or even the politicking. The twins had asked him to be there -- and so there he was.

One glance at Alisaie had told him that she was not altogether pleased with the developments of the meeting herself. What had promised to be a short recap of knowledge had turned into endless posturing and debate. It gave him enough confidence to mutter over to her from his seat, where he was reclined with arms folded.]

Still glad you came back?

[ It wasn't as if Alisaie disliked studying or debate or anything like that. As a child of Sharlayan, she was practically guaranteed to have some sort of interest in the intelletual arts.

What she couldn't stand was the useless talk and waiting and hemming and hawing. It took ages for Sharlayan to decide on a course of action and even then it took hours upon hours of talk and chatter and parties and meetings and Twelve was it ever dull! She's sitting slouched in her seat, arms crossed, and trying not to look too annoyed with the way Alphinaud had begun arguing with the other speaker about some minor point.

It was like being in school again! She looked up, blinked at Estinien. ]

...I mean, it's home. How could I not be pleased to be home?

[ She murmured, voice a touch dry. ]

It's this sort of thing I didn't miss.

[Crystallis was many things: adventurer, savior, friend. She was also clumsy, too. It’s a miracle, honestly. Curiosity got the better of her one day and she decided to try her hand and making the others dinner for once.

Of course, in her attempt to get everything set up, she accidentally bumped into Alisaie and in her panic, spilt the food as she hit the ground.]

Face-down on the shore, the first conscious breath Akira takes is more seawater and sand than air. A rude awakening indeed. He has no idea how long he has been out, nor where he is, hardly able to take stock of anything more than white coral sands as he clambers onto all fours and coughs violently on grit and salt. He can tell from the sun on his back that his clothing must be in tatters. What he hasn't noticed is that those sodden tatters appear to be strangely singed, though he could swear he smells ash.

The only thought that cuts through the fog in his mind, at first, is a keen sense of deja-vu.

A strange sensation to have when he can't seem to remember anything else.

Rezo has been picking his way along the shore cautiously- he always has to in an unfamiliar area, but even aside from habit the locals had warned him that debris had a way of washing up around here, especially after a storm. And the one last night had sounded like a bad one. Several of the aforementioned locals had even offered to go with him, but he’d managed to politely reject them. He’d preferred to be alone.

But then he’d heard someone coughing, rather violently, and it seemed he wasn’t going to be alone after all.

The first impression Akira will have of Rezo is the sensation of something gently poking against his back. That would be the bottom of Rezo’s staff, as he’s trying not to trip over the coughing person.

Having located said person Rezo kneels beside them, the deep reds of his voluminous cloak and robes doubtless quite a contrast against the white sand. He sets his staff aside and reaches a hand out to Akira.

“Pardon me,” he says, his voice low and soothing. “You sound like you’re in a bit of trouble.”

Rezo is little more than a dark, billowing blur when Akira gets his first look, struggling between gasping breaths to rub the fatigue out of his eyes. He's confused and mildly irritated by the poke of the stick to his back - then again, given the sorry state of him, maybe Akira wouldn't want to get anywhere near himself either - until the Rezo's face comes into focus, at least. Then he sees that the man's eyes remain tellingly closed.

Great. A blind man. What good -

Well, nevermind. Rezo's finely crafted attire suggests that he's doing quite well for himself, and Akira isn't in any position to turn down help, let alone jump to conclusions about a would-be savior.

The sound of sloshing water accompanies Akira's laborious dragging of his lower body from the tide as he reaches for the proffered hand. His limbs shake even from this effort, like a deer taking its first steps. It's embarrassing. What happened to him, to make him feel so sapped of strength? He doesn't ache... he sees no blood.

"I think...," Akira pants, his voice raw. And yet, there is a distinct lack of pain or distress in it. "I am in need of some dry clothes, sir."

It is fortunate that Rezo’s many magical talents do not include mindreading, or else he might have been sorely tempted to send Akira flying back into the ocean. Instead, all Rezo feels is a detached sort of pity at the way the man’s hand shakes in Rezo’s, as well as the rawness of the man’s voice when he speaks. He sounds strangely calm otherwise though, which might be a good sign, or it might indicate that he’s merely in shock.

Rezo moves his other hand to the man’s shoulder, letting the man lean against him if he’s not too prideful to do so.

“I’m afraid I didn’t bring a change of clothes along for my walk,” Rezo says, “But I can offer you my cloak. We’re near a village, so we’ll have to get you some proper clothes there.”

Provided the man doesn’t have any injuries to keep him from moving. It’s hard to tell right away. Rezo can’t smell any blood on the man, just the ocean and oddly enough, a hint of something smoky. “Does it hurt anywhere?”

He would surely deserve to be thrown in the ocean, but luckily (especially for Akira himself), Akira is at least willing to acknowledge the reality that blind stranger is currently far more capable than he is. And kind enough to offer to clothe him from his own back, at that. Akira is starting to feel some shame for that silent snap judgment already.

"Thank you," Akira murmurs, almost audibly swallowing his pride long enough to slump against the support Rezo offers him. All four of his limbs are tingling violently, as if his nervous system is jolting awake all at once from the shock of merely standing - but is that pain, exactly?

Akira shakes his head. No, the man wants to know if he's injured, and if he can move. He isn't, and he can.

"I can't feel my face yet, but nothing hurts. I can walk... I think."

When they stand, Rezo realizes the man is around the same height as he is, which is a little unusual but only a little.

Weak limbs, and an admitted sense of numbness, although no pain…The numbness could be a bad sign but the way the man describes it makes it sound as though it’s fading quickly… It may not be necessary but Rezo casts a silent Recovery, letting the white magic seep out of his hands and into Akira’s body.

“It sounds like you’re quite worn out. Still, to not have sustained any serious injuries in that storm, you’re a fortunate individual.” Though if he were truly fortunate, surely he wouldn’t have been in this mess in the first place, and Rezo wryly adds: “Well, relatively speaking.”

Now, Rezo did say he’d let the man borrow his cloak. Of course, since he’s trying to help the man stay upright at the same time, Rezo has to work mostly one-handed to fumble his cloak off, unpinning it from his shoulder guards and tugging it up over the other man’s shoulders. As soon as it’s in place and not about to slide off of his shoulders (Akira may have to adjust it with his own hands to ensure this), Rezo raises his hand.

“How many fingers am I holding up?” The answer, being held up in front of Akira’s face, is two.
