Hello, and welcome to The Care and Keeping of Your Pet! As you surely know, a pet is a big responsibility, and we're so glad you've decided to be a concientious master. A safe pet is a happy pet, and this handbook is certain to keep your precious lifelong friend as content as can be.
The history of the animal person is a long and difficult one, with their origins not being known even to this day. However, scientists believe that despite our common appearance - most animal people have humanoid forms except for the ears, tails, and sometimes teeth - we share no common ancestry, even if the ascent of this species corresponds with that of the homo sapien. We gained dominance over each breed thousands of years ago, beginning with the dog type, who have long been considered "man's best friend." Most breeds these days are docile and perfect for owners of any speed.
Of course, it is our duty as the superior species to take care of these animal creatures, and this is inherent in their genetic makeup. Everyone knows that an animal person, when matched with their correct human master, is loyal for life - a true "soulmate," if you will. Far be it for us to turn this away! Ever since the Great Domestication, these intelligent and loving animals have served us as friends, workmates, guardians, servants, and sexual companions and will for years to come. Despite recent hubbub from so-called "Pet People's Rights Activists," this way of life is wholesome and good. Scientific research shows that the natural desire of the pet person is to be owned and cared for by a human.
So, it's your first pet. What do you need to know?
As previously stated, pet people come in as many breeds as you can possibly think of. By far and away the most popular are the dog and cat types, but exotic birds and lizards have been gaining popularity among trendsetters from L.A. to Tokyo!
All pet types are best suited for certain jobs, and when hunting for one, it is best to search for a type that suits your needs best.
However, a "True Match" - when a pet person bonds with you and only you for the rest of their natural lives - comes naturally, and sometimes takes time before you can find the pet you will be able to give a forever home to.
According to all current research, pet people are completely sentient and like us in many ways. However, it is important to remember that they have many animalistic and feral characteristics. Do not be foolish and think that your pet is a person, despite the facts that many are clothed and may be allowed to read, write, and have "hobbies." Some traditional pet owners may eschew these frivolities, and that is within their right.
Pet people age more quickly than humans, at least physically, and many types have long lifespans. It is not uncommon for pets to be passed through the family. When getting your child their first pet, it's important to keep in mind that just because the pup is tiny now, a grown pet can be jumpy around a small child.
It is important to train a pet. Discipline will be necessary. This does not make you a bad owner. Failure to train early will result in a rebellious pet. Training is especially important if you want your pet to serve as a household servant.
Remember, your pet will be extremely protective of you, especially if you are Truly Bonded. It is best to socialize them early. A socialized pet is a perfect family pet.
These days, unowned and unbonded pet people are allowed to live as strays or "Frees" in certain designated areas. Some even hold "jobs." This is against their best interest, and owners who adopt these strays are to be rewarded. Still, the best place to get pets are from liscenced kennels or breeders.
Some masters find it beneficial to participate in activities with their pets, such as shows and other competitions.
Finally, much has been made about the sexual relationship between pet and master. This is a normal facet of the bond, and humans are sure to find pet people sexually alluring. But beyond that, it is only responsible and prudent for owners to care for their pet's needs. It is a well-known fact that the libidos of pet people are remarkably strong, and when they go into heat, it is usually more convenient for a master to relieve them. There is no risk of pregnancy. All rumors of hybrids are urban legends.
Despite this, masters must remember to not view their pets as romantic partners. Humans should stay with humans.
With that said, thank you and welcome to your first day as a pet's master! |

[as an owner he would probably "free" anyone he was given but open to a pet choosing to follow him instead]

He still sort of regrets not killing the exotic animal outright, if only because offering it to Guizhong had not panned out to be the gift he thought it was. It would have made things much easier. Now Morax lounges around the bit of land that will host Wangshu Inn a long, long time in the future, a shape of a man on his hip against a boulder in case a mortal might happen by.
The little rabbit has been set free, and maybe Morax is hoping it gets lost in the tall grass at some point so he has no more responsibility to his partner. For now, however, the warlord watches. ]

[Instead, he found a quite funny person. There was a hidden brutality but it was so seemingly easily quenched by the people around him. "You should return the rabbit to his home," and here he was. Venti quite enjoyed darting in and out of the warlord's sight and seeing how quickly he was spotted. Each time he reappeared, a sparkle in his eyes, as if you say I'm in your care a bit longer.]
[The people of Liyue would look at the two and assume it was a simple pet and master. To Venti, though, it seemed like the "master" was far more bound by this contract that he was...]
Hey, hey, hey! [he darts back to where the taller man waited. There's water dripping from his legs and his cupped hand where he holds a lotus head.]
What about this one? Can this be fermented into wine?
[For a cute little rabbit, he sure cared about alcohol a lot...]
Leanne | Fire Emblem | F/M
Owner: If owner, she would spoil the pet rotten and is also easily pushed around by them. She will just try and make the pet feel as loved as they possibly can feel.
Only no in the list is Pet Play.]
Have a fox boy bodyguard!
[Now those would-be muggers were now on the ground groaning while Mitsuhide held his mistress in his arms. His white tail was still fluffed out and ears back as he glared at the men, still seeing them as a threat to his mistress even though he had already done a good job in beating them. Obviously, they didn't expect a fox to make such a good guard animal.]
A strong fox boy!
It was supposed to be a simple walk to go shopping, what she didn't expect was to be in a mugging situation. Or at least.. It used to be a mugging situation as now all of her muggers were currently on the ground and she was being held against her fox. He was growling and still on edge it seems judging by his ears and tail.
This... This wasn't the norm. Foxes are a luxery pet. This was defintely above what foxes are supposed to be known for!]
It's... It's okay...
[Shock of the event was slowly waning and Leanne reaches up to try and rub an ear.]
You got them good, we should leave before they wake.
[Seriously the fight was over before the muggers really had a chance.]
And I can't really breathe. You are holding me too tight.
no subject
My apologies, Mistress. I didn't mean to stress you out.
[He could feel her trembling in his arms.]
You're not hurt anywhere, are you?
no subject
Though she can't stop trembling and really wanted the comfort that his arms was giving her.]
No.... I am not hurt. You stopped them before they could hurt me, Mitsuhide.
[Okay, let's take a few deep breaths.]
Let's go home... I think I need to go home now.

Have a performing peacock too!
Mistress Leanne, be a dear and make sure my back and tail feathers are straight, would you?
[He was almost certain that they were; he was very careful after all. But any excuse to have his Mistress stroke his back feathers. When he was in heat or otherwise aroused, that sort of feather stroking drove him absolutely wild, but it was pleasant under any circumstances.]
I love this! XD
It did wear down her morale for a while but she did her best not to show it to her beloved pet. He always needed to be at his best at all times and also... There were times that she wouldn't trade for anything in the world with him.]
Your back and tail feathers? Didn't you just look at them?
[But.... It was for a show and like always, despite questioning it, lets herself be bossed around by him. She has learned how he liked his feathers to be touched and goes to stroke his back and tail feathers. Thanks to whenever he was in heat or aroused, she had learned just how much he enjoyed her touching them as her fingers goes to pet and stroke those feathers.]
I'm glad! XD
Though of course he did more than just look pretty. He was an excellent dancer and juggler, and knew a few magic tricks as well, always wowing the judges as much with his talent as his looks. And at home he was an excellent cook, keeping both himself and his Mistress well fed, and was as comfortable with a feather duster in his hand as a performance fan. He'd even been working on designing some new outfits for the both of them, though those he wasn't quite ready to show off yet.
For now, he simply smiled over his shoulder at his Mistress. Oh so innocent.]
A bit, but you can see them so much better than I can, darling, even with the mirror.
[Which was true, whatever his ulterior motive might be; he was quite flexible, but there was only so far he could crane his neck around. And it really was critical for his tail to look good. A peacock's tail was his pride and joy, and a good bit of how he was judged.
He gave a soft warble as she stroked his back, smoothing down the feathers, a bit of tension melting out of his shoulders. Yes, that was just what he'd needed, feather fixing or no.]
Thank you, Mistress dear. I needed that.
[It was a little odd for him to be quite so tense before a show. Alert, yes, but usually not quite this keyed up.]
This is going to be beautiful I just know it. XD
It also helps that he was also such a caring pet as well. Cooking and helping with the cleaning, while most show pets would never dare to touch a cleaning cloth or a kitchen pan. Or at least according to other owners how their pet lives were like. It made her realize just how precious and loving her pet was.
When she felt his eyes on her, she couldn't help but to smile back up at him.]
I won't let you down, Sylvando. You are going to be amazing at the show.
[Just give her a few as she did her best to make sure that each feather was at their proper place oh so perfectly. Even going as far as putting on some extra oil to help make them shine just that much more without looking oily.
The soft warbles were always a cute sound to her and she couldn't help but to giggle when he warbles. Though, his tenseness was concerning and she was starting to fret over him a little.]
You are welcome. Hey.... It's going to be okay. You are going to do just fine. Even if you don't place, I will still be happy and proud of you. So very proud of you, my silly peacock. And the judges would have to be blind not to pick you.
[She spoke as she straightens herself up before leaning over to give him a small kiss on the cheek to give him encouragement.]
Let me get a bit more dressed up and then we can go.
It will be amazing, yes. XD
I can't wait! XD

How about....a blind wolf?
Resting in one of the stalls, there's a wolf. Previously a stray on the streets, he is all cleaned up with puffs of wolf ears and his tail sticking out, his long hair tied up in a ponytail for the show, a blindfold wrapped around his head, and a sword resting on his lap. His profile said he's quiet and a loner by nature, as he didn't have a pack. As to how he became blind, he lost them in a territorial war against a stronger wolf and enemy pack.
"Oh that's not a dog, that's a wolf." said the worker. "When we found him, he's very sick and he's been known to injure and fight the other strays on the street for food. It took a while for him to heal because he has broken ribs and limbs probably from the fighting of the other wolves and from being ganged up. He becomes blind because we couldn't save his eyes from the infection. His behavioral problems have been addressed in rehab for his fighting and aggression because of his wolf. When he passed, we return his sword and he's ready to be a guard for the right family."
A pause, a beat, "This one doesn't speak or play much, but he very much wants to be a bodyguard." The shelter worker said. "We ask for his name. He said it doesn't matter and preferred his future owner to name him."
Ooooo~ That could be fun. For Leanne's job, I was thinking of either a model or opera singer.
She took her time, looking at every stall she came across to see if any would be the one for her. There were those that caught her eye but their personality wasn't a good match for her. She then stops in front of a stall with what she thought was a rather big dog in it... Only to be told that he was a wolf.
"A wolf?" She listens to his story and then frowns a little. This poor thing, he went through so much. When she hears his desire to be a bodyguard, she frowns a little before letting out a small sigh. She goes to press a hand against the stall so he could catch her scent a bit easier.
"I hear you don't have a name... Want to come home with me? I don't have much to give but I can give you all that I can." Which some of it are lies but she doesn't want people to realize just who she is yet. At least, not until she signs the papers.
Can be small business owner or office worker or unemployed lol, doesn't matter
"...No name." Warily, he came up to her to catch her scent. A wolf's nose is powerful to catch a specific scent for miles. He didn't answer at first, studying her with his nose and hearing with his ears. His expression is stoic, but he simply gives a nod.
"It seems he wants to go with you. If you want to adopt him, you just need to read these papers." Leanne will be given instructions in the proper care of a wolf. She learns his type needs lots of exercises and eats lots of meat, a lot of meat both cooked and raw, and not just typical dog food.
lol okay~
A nervous look comes across her face as he came up to sniff at her. Why? Why was she so nervous? She lets out a small sigh of relief as he nod.
"He picked me, I guess then he will come home with me." She takes the papers and starts to read them over. So... So much care he needs. A hand lifts as she goes to message her temple. "May I bring these home to study them better? Or at least copies of each one." It was a good thing that she doesn't need to go into work for a few days.
A small sigh as she looks towards the wolf. "I will need to come up with a good name for you."

Adela | Original Character | OTA, F/M 18+ for shipping
As an owner, Adela tries very hard to keep her pet happy and healthy but does get tired and might grumble about doing what their pet wants (though chances are she'll still do it in the end). She might even wind up spoiling them a bit, and as much as she tries she's not much of a disciplinarian.
As a pet, she's a bit of a finicky cat who doesn't really like being forced into doing anything, but can be bribed with treats and petting (or other things if we want to go there). If she's been with her owner for a long time, it's going to be assumed that there's a lot of trust built and she might get into mischief just to see what she can get away with and/or push buttons.
Please ask if you have any questions or want to go into smuttier options! ]]

When Lumi's been super extra good, Master Caleb brings him to the park and just lets him do his thing. He'll be around, of course--it's okay, it's safe--but Lumi's got some freedom to cut loose at speed, go for a run without worrying about knocking things down or crashing into anyone or anything. It's definitely better for his energy levels, and his outlook. He doesn't really need the whole enchilada, not today, so he starts with a light jog, Frisbee tucked under his arm, tail bumping against it and him in rhythm.
He still wants to try for the flip, once he's warmed up. He can get the handstand, finally. Catching the disc from there is gonna be a bit of a stretch, but a flip would be sick. Way more agile. So off he goes, easy strides covering grass and pavement alike, enjoying the pace and engrossed in the idea of flying through the air, even for a moment, and landing on his feet.
It's the effort that counts, right? He doesn't have to be scared he might lose, because it's not about winning. It's all about how you play the game.
When Lumi crests the little hill at the end of the path, he sees something that just, kind of, grabs his breath and cuts his stride in half, and gives him just enough forethought left to lope off the path, out of the other joggers' way.
There, perched on one of the benches and stretching way out, is the longest, most elegant shape he has ever seen, sleekly inhuman and impossibly bright. He can feel his ears reaching all the way for the sky, stiff as antennae. His instincts rumble snake mongoose ferret chick bird--before settling on--
"Dude!" Appreciatively, a cheerful bark of admiration. "You're beautiful. Is that kung fu?"
He's never seen a bird with such sparkling feathers, and whatever they're doing, it is the most elegant maneuver he has ever seen, and also this marvelous being can get their leg all the way behind their own head.
Bravo!
