I don’t mind late winter when it’s so cold and icy outside that you will no doubt fall and break a hip on your short walks to and from warm buildings, but December isn’t cold enough and neither is it warm enough and we only get snow every third or so year in Paris. What I think? I think the idea of December is much more agreeable than the actual month.

That's more than reasonable. It's far too easy to romanticise these things, when the reality is much more awkward.

Paris, though? I haven't been back to France in so long. Has it changed very much in the last few years? [Decades. A century? It was nice just to talk to someone who might actually enjoy living there, and while LaCroix didn't want or need anything from Michel specifically, he seemed friendly enough, and free with his time...]
