The reason why Leo was chosen to be Rupert's bodyguard, back when he was fourteen and left preparatory school for secondary education, is manyfold: One the one hand, he was young, almost the same age (close enough to pass as such). On the other, he was said to be good in preventing situations, keeping them from occurring in the first place, or at least having consequences. And, relatedly... he didn't really look or act like a bodyguard, he could pass as just another kid.
Rupert has, over the years, gotten very, very used to him. Used to Leo's presence, but also used to him as a person ...okay, also used to having someone he can come to when he's stuck on homework when he doesn't want to go to a tutor (he has no idea how good Leo actually is, but it's not a high bar to be a higher achiever academically than Rupert).
And now? Now he's soon going to graduate. Become an adult. And he's really unsure what that actually means, partly because so much of it hinges on events that may or may not happen.
Either way, what it will likely mean is that his and Leo's professional relationship will drastically change, one way or the other, and along with it their personal one. ...He's not sure if Leo has been told about this.
All he knows is that exams are over, and now they have the summer with all its uncertainties ahead of them...
...and, at the moment, that just means sitting in a chilly flat boat out on the ponds in the swamp, quietly waiting for ducks to show. Duck shooting isn't Rupert's favourite past time - not active enough - but sometimes he needs some quiet thinking time, and duck shooting is perfect for that.
They've sat there for a while, when Rupert remarks in a low voice, the kind that doesn't carry: "Have you gotten your results yet?"
