Calming Presence

You're about to go off the rails. No, no "about," actually. You've left that train track fair behind, and you're crazy. Rage fills every inch of you, and there's no doubt you're about to do something dangerous, stupid, or reckless. Or all three. There's only one person who can calm you down: your partner.

Now, they're using closeness, reassurance, or physical intimacy to remind you what really matters, which is the two of you. Surely, this will bring you back, letting the anger ebb out and you'll be able to think straight again, even if your lover was the actual cause of all this mess.

Won't it? Surely you won't direct your wrath towards them, no matter what.

He wants to sleep, but he can't find the peace of mind to achieve it. The sake helped at first, but now it's making his temperament worse. He's easily irritable, prone to snapping at anyone who causes the slightest bit of ire from him. Food and drink taste like ash in his mouth. Not even Lanli's infamous lotus and rib soup can stir his appetite!

No one seems to understand the sudden change that has come over the infamous Wei Wuxian. The swordmaster who abandoned his sword for a flute. Who plays eery melodies that cause strange things to happen. No one else can see the darkness gathering around him, clinging to his aura like something dangerous and unclean.

That's why he needs to get away from Lotus Pier. Just for a few days until he can gain some semblance of control over himself. He's gone three days before Lanli sends word to the Cloud Recesses, worried sick over Wei's troubled state of mind and absence. She begs for Lan Wangji to search and find Wei Wuxian. Bring him home.

Meanwhile, sleep continues to allude him. He feels himself slowly slipping into madness....

The Lan clan of Gusu was still restoring Cloud Recesses to its former glory. The library had particularly been damaged as had Lan Xichen's quarters when Wen Xu was furious he couldn't find him during the siege. Wangji was helping add a few new decorations to his older brother's room when a disciple announced there was a letter for him.

As he read it, his heart sank. Wei Ying, what are you doing? He thinks and sets out immediately to go find him. Riding his sword helps him cut the travel time considerably, but he's still not sure just where to start looking. He starts with the town outside of Lotus Pier. He remembers when he told Wei Ying he wouldn't come to his home and hopes the other young cultivator doesn't remark on this change in plans.

[ open to her calming someone else down, but odds are she's the one in need of being calmed. she does have a slight history of anger issues. also perfectly fine with shipping or gen for this; there's some from her canon I wouldn't mind seeing for this where shipping wouldn't be appropriate (or would be unlikely). leaning toward canon, timeline shenanigans, or prior CR, but open to cross canon as well! ]
