Happy Holidays Meme

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Wherever your character is, whatever their feelings on the plethora of holidays found in December, they're bound to be caught up in the festivities. It's up to you what kind of holiday they'll experience! (Feel free to exchange Christmas for whatever holiday your character celebrates.)

Directions

Gen Prompts
1. Tree Shopping — There's nothing like a freshly cut tree at Christmas. Do you go out into the woods to find one yourself, or do you stroll through a lot while it's snowing, looking for the perfect tree?

2. Ice Skating — Do you skate at rink or out on a frozen pond? Have you ever skated before? How many times do you fall?

3. Pinterest Fails — You're set on making your own gifts this year, so you try out some adorable Pinterest ideas... And fail miserably. How do you salvage Christmas?

4. Secret Santa — The names have been drawn and now you're tasked with finding the right gift for someone who you may hardly know. Is it easy, or do you have to do some reconnaissance before making your decision?

5. Christmas Market — There are stalls of handcrafts and delicious goodies lining the streets, with crowds of people out walking in the snow and drinking mulled wine.

6. Decorating the Tree — How will the two of you decorate the tree? Do you spend a half hour untangling the twinkle lights, make popcorn strings while listening to carols, argue over who gets to put the star on top?

7. Road Trip — The snacks are packed and you’re ready to go to grandma’s house. But what happens when you lose GPS signal and get lost in the middle of nowhere or the car breaks down?

8. Stuck in the Airport — You’re snowed in and the hotels are full of fellow delayed passengers. Why don’t they make these chairs more comfortable for sleeping in?

9. Avoiding the Family — You’re obligated to go home for the holiday, but there’s only so much you can take of your family. Go for a walk, stop by the bar, whatever it takes for a little peace and quiet - and meet someone along the way.

10. Christmas Party — Are you hosting the event, or just bringing an extra bottle of wine? Is it a work function? How many glasses of spiked eggnog have you had?

11. Baking Shenanigans — How long does it take for the two of you to destroy the kitchen, either with forgetting to put the lid on the blender or simply starting a food fight?

12. Burned the Turkey — Well, the main course is a little blackened. Time for Chinese food, or is it pizza this year?

13. Mistletoe — The little sprig of green strikes again! Are you the one stuck under it, or the lucky finder ready to claim your prize?

14. Last Minute Shopping — Are you out fighting the crowds for the best deals? Or are you behind one of the counters, stuck in the annual retail holiday hell?

16. Turbo Man — You have one last thing on your shopping list, but it's the hottest of the season and everywhere is sold out. There's only one left — but they've spotted it too! Who will walk away victorious?

17. Taking in a Show — Who doesn't love going to the theater during the holiday season? The shows always seem a little more magical this time of year, and that new musical sounds like just what you need to get in the spirit.

18. Write-in Option — Is there something we missed? Is there another scenario you want to play out? Go for it!

[ he's answering his door because she came looking for him. but who doesn't love free stuff, so when Jason opens the door a crack, Donna holds up the box. it's plain and white, there's nothing particularly special about it.

she might've left a Christmas stocking for Gar and Rachel in each of their rooms for them to find, something for them to hang up with the rest of them. but Jason's - a simple red and green one with his name stitched in gold - would probably go over better with more of a personal touch.

all of the older Titans already have them, she figured it was a good way to remind the newest members of the team that they're a part of this.]

[ he answered the door because she came looking for him, but he's not going to make it as easy as that. he does eye the box in Donna's hand, though, raising the slightest eyebrow. ]

What is it?

[ he asks, like he's never seen a present in his life, and while he does trust Donna, it's acts of kindness he doesn't trust. but he does open the door a little wider and takes it from her, shaking it. ]

Thought Christmas was in like, two weeks or something. If you're giving this to me now does that mean I get to miss it?

[ that brief flicker of disappointment that comes with Jason trying to skip out on Christmas? it's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of thing. her persistence, on the other hand, is going pretty strong.]

It's more decoration that present. Sorry, you'll have to wait the obligatory two weeks to get your actual Christmas gifts.

[ she gestures back to the box.]

It's not going to explode, open it.

[ blink and you'll miss it, but Jason sees it. he wonders what it's about, because he knows she's not the warm and fuzzy type and neither is he, so why would Christmas be a big deal? or any kind of deal. it's stupid. because he's never really had it, and he's not sure if he wants to let himself have it this time either.

if he haves it and he loves it, and then he loses it... it'll be harder than if he never bothered at all. ]

Decoration?

[okay now he's really confused... and also curious, so he finally opens the box and looks inside, then pulls the Christmas stocking out. it's Christmas alright... with his name on it.]

A Christmas stocking? Oh good, now Santa'll have somewhere special to put all that coal.

[ she's not warm and fuzzy, and she's not about to start rambling on about the healing power of Christmas - but Donna tends to approach the season with a little more gratitude than any other time of year. they've been through a lot and they're all still standing, aren't they? they deserve to enjoy this.

but she grins when that stocking lands about as well as she expected it to, and shakes her head at his grumbling.]

All of the Titans have one. Like it or not, you're one of us. Now come on - seriously, I need someone to work with me on the tree lights before Dick tries to help again.

[ and by help she mostly means embarrass himself.]

[ maybe if he ever gets the fuck out of his room he'll try to approach the season with some gratitude, but right now it just feels like one big trick. like he's fooling himself if he gives into it. the last thing he wants is to seem like a fucking fool.

but he's still looking at the stocking, and the way it has his name on it. and it's from Donna- or maybe the rest of the Titans too, but Donna is here giving it to him, one of us, so... maybe it's not all that fake, because he trusts her now.

she's been there for him, and she's never lied about any of it. ]

Yeah, fine.

[he opens his door all the way, setting the box down to the side, but he holds up the stocking.]

Is there a place I'm supposed to put this?

Yeah, with the rest of them.

[ he'll have to excuse her excitement when he gives in. she assumed it would be harder than this to get Jason to go along with it. but since he asks about the stocking, she slides her hand against his arm and guides him in the direction of the fireplace.

there's nothing fake about it - she wants him to enjoy this, even if it's probably not the family he wants, or the one he expected to have. there's no guarantee that Bruce won't decide he's better off with a sidekick and summon him back to Gotham, and if that happens they'll deal with it.

but he's here now, so he might as well be a part of this.]

Come on, you can hang it next to mine.

[ maybe back at the start it would have taken so much more to get him out of his room- or hell, he probably wouldn't have come at all- but it feels a little different now. Donna has been helping him work on control and concentration, but also on how to reach out.

like now, with her leading him to the fireplace. there's a buzz around him that doesn't stop or slow down when he enters the picture. Rachel and Gar are still in the kitchen, Dick is slowly trying to make his way toward the Christmas lights, Hanks is shoving some eggnog looking drink at Dawn, making a face. It's... different. It's nice.

it's the family he won't let himself have, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want it. ]

Okay, but just a warning. Santa might put my spillover coal in your stocking. You're taking a big risk here.

[he says as he hangs his up next to hers.]

[ after all, Santa doesn't fill the stockings - she and Dawn do. she gives his shoulder a gentle squeeze before letting go. it's not a big deal, she's sure he doesn't want to turn it into one, so she walks over to the tree and grabs a string of lights to pass over to him.]

I like to start at the bottom of the tree. Dick thinks he's uncovered some life hack where he divides the tree in vertical thirds, but don't listen to that bullshit. My way looks better.

[ the problem with Dick's way isn't the method, it's how he executes it. but anyway, she moves to the opposite side of the tree as Jason and starts winding through the branches to show him what she means.]
