Washed Up on the Beach

The boundlessness and daring unchained nature of the sea captured the attention of writers and historians and adventurers for centuries; it still does! Exploration, conquest, commerce, and luxury all find roots in uncharted waters, be they ocean or large inland sea or freshwater lake and river. Along with those marks of growth come some consequences, born of nature and man: namely, several ways in which you might find yourself…
Not quite sure how you got here? There are a few starter options to consider:
1. Shipwreck: Did it go down in a storm? Lose a fight with pirates? Ignore the warnings of a competent lighthouse-keeper (or see no warnings at all due to a competent one)? Whatever the cause, your ship is lost and you survived, somehow. This applies to lakes and rivers, too, which can be just as tempestuous with a bit more potential for settled, "modern" life springing up around them.
2. Vacation Misfortune: Surfing lesson or session gone wrong? Lose your kayak and your paddle? Not quite the island tour/lakeside town fishing expedition/flight across the sea you expected? Jumping from tall seaside cliffs doesn't always have an easy ending, either. Maybe you were caught in a riptide and managed to get through it, but you definitely aren't where you started...
3. Lost at Sea: Can coincide with a shipwreck, but you might also be an intrepid explorer seeking new and uncharted islands, or someone on the run from an overbearing family or one too many failed assignments. Or you just plain can't read a map and work a sextant at the same time, and your compass doesn't point north.
4. Walk the Plank: Of course, for the less ethically inclined there is always piracy in its various forms. A prisoner or a renegade acting for his own benefit can be forced off the ship into the sea and whatever awaits him there; a stowaway or thief aboard could meet a similar fate.
5. Crossing Lines: Speaking of the criminal realm, if you run afoul of the wrong crowd in a port city, or you are the wrong crowd and you screw up one time too many, there's no law in that lawless profession saying they can't truss you up and toss you off the nearest dock. Hopefully you find some benevolent help after that.
6. Too Close to Land: What if the water is your natural home? Drawing too close to the shallows leaves you subject to crashing waves and sandburn, among other things; stay for too long as the tide ebbs, and you might get beached. Weather is probably a factor for you, too, as the hot sun and changing tide leave you dry quickly, or a storm rolling in makes the surf churn and pull.
It doesn't have to be one of these! There are near-countless variations on how and why and with what means one ends up washed up on the beach (unconscious, or drifting in on a makeshift raft, or swimming for shore, or looking for new discoveries - or any combination thereof), all of which include just a bit of suspension of disbelief. Maybe it's tropical; maybe it's frigid. Be bold. Be creative. AU stuff, one person in another's canon stuff, completely unrelated but you think it would be cool to play this out stuff: everything goes.
Setting up your initial post with some kind of scene suggestion is recommended, but not required.
Tag other people. Become the rescuer, actively seeking to assist after an accident or rumor you heard, or a fellow survivor/explorer, or someone taking their beachcombing find captive (alone or as part of a larger collective), or someone sent to fetch the missing person for straightforward or nefarious purposes. You don't even need to be the person making the discovery! Maybe you're introducing the washed-up victim to life in his or her new environment instead, a walk about town or a lesson in how to do the hard labor required of such vagrants. This isn't an explicitly smut or violence-ish meme but it could happen, so please take note and warn or describe permissions accordingly.
And have fun!

[Closed to Tonbokiri]
... the last thing she remembers is being on a merchant ship where she and her squad were battling the enemy before the ship suddenly crashed violently into something, throwing everyone into the cold sea. Tonbokiri had been by her side and she recalls shouting his name and reaching out for him, and she thinks she felt his hand wrapping round hers...
But then she can't remember what happened after that.
Kuwana shivers a bit at her completely soaked clothes. She does her best to squeeze the water from her clothes and to brush her damp hair from her eyes before getting up and quickly wincing at her tender ankle. She sighs, for of course she's twisted her ankle somehow.
As she hobbles along the beach, she notices bits of debris from the ship floating along the shoreline. Perhaps the others have washed up on this island with her? She calls out the names of her teammates as loudly as she can while she continues walking along the shore, hoping for a response. Though she's soon only calling one name, the name most dear to her - "Tonbo!! Tonbo!! Where are you??"

Shaking his head, he gets to his feet. No matter how supernatural this human body is, it will suffer from lack of care soon enough. He needs to find shelter, water, and his teammates.
Wringing out his hakama as best he can, he starts walking, calling out names and eyeing the debris, hoping both to find things of use, and find his teammates. But especially to find Kuwana.
After some time he finds tracks in the sand. A short investigation reveals that it is someone, and that they have an injury. He is not the fastest blade, but he can pick up his pace easily enough to catch up with someone limping.
And sure enough, he soon comes within view of Kuwana, who is calling his name.
"Kuwana!" He calls back, and sprints towards her to embrace her gently. "I am glad to see you." He then asks with concern, "I am glad to see you. Are you damaged? You've been limping."

Just as her imagination starts running away with her, as usual, and begins dragging her into a cycle of despair and she's about to stop calling for Tonbokiri, there's finally a response!
"Ton-Tonbo!!" She is ever so grateful and relieved to see him!! She clings tightly to him, burying her teary face against him. She mumbles something unintelligible in reply to his question but is mostly just trying not to break down into tears of relief!

His concern over her limp remains unabated, but it can wait until Kuwana has calmed herself enough.
"We are together, and everything will come all right. Everything will be fine. Konnosuke has surely returned to Aruji, and a rescue will be mounted. It would be best if they found us in good order, wouldn't it?"
no subject
"I-I'm fine... ankle... a-a little sore... but I'm fine. W-What about you and ... did-did you... see any-anyone else- hic!"
And now all that sobbing has given her the hiccups as she just has the worst luck! She tries covering her mouth and holding her breath but- HIC!
(Don't you laugh, Tonbo! Though she probably looks and sounds adorable! XD;;)

Now is not the time to laugh over it, because she has just been crying is probably still feeling miserable... He tries very hard, but his eyes still lift a little from his stifled amusement.
"I am fine and-" He pauses slightly after her hiccup, and continues, "honestly, I am better now that I have found you. I didn't see anyone-" he pauses for her again, "else."
He watches her thoughtfully as she tries to stop the hiccups by herself, then offers, "Should I try to startle them out of you?"
If she says yes, well, he is no Nikkari Aoe, but he can at least poke her in her side above the waist. A firm poke there will make most humans jump.

It's true through that now isn't the time to laugh for she does feel absolutely miserable and she's sure she looks terrible right now, all drenched from being in the sea with her hairpins struggling to hold up her limp wet hair. Her eyes are also red and a little puffy from crying, her face all wet... She tries to clean her face with her handkerchief while trying to hold her breath again in an attempt to cure her hiccups, but the handkerchief is sopping wet and- HIC! Can she please just go hide in a hole now and never come out??
"I see- HIC- I-I hope the others are- HIC- alright..." It is sweet though that he says he's better now that he's found her, despite what a mess she is now -HIC- ...
She looks up at his offer to help her with her hiccups and -HIC- nods. Anything to get rid of them!

Receiving her approval to try to help her banish the hiccups he gives no warning, but abruptly pokes Kuwana just above her hips.
He keeps his expression serious as he looks down at her, hoping that this jolt will help...
