the monster & the maiden fair meme There's a long precedent in folklore and myth of beautiful young people - both men and women - being kidnapped by monsters: dragons, beasts, goblins, demons, elves, vampires, wolves, or even evil humans. In the end, however, these prisoners are almost always rescued and brought back to civilization to live a normal and happy life. But what if they didn't want to leave their jailor? They've seen behind the surface and have begun to sympathize with this "monster;" no, more than that, they've fallen for them. Will this story have a happy ending? Will the monster believe that anyone could love them? Most importantly, though, can the two of them be left alone without any attempts at a "rescue?" how to play Comment with your character, your preference, and what role they'll play. Feel free to AU characters to your desired role. Reply to others. Thread anything that could remotely fit under the umbrella theme. Was the kidnapping just that, or did both parties know (and care) for each other before, making it a collaborative, mutual effort? Perhaps you'd prefer to play the actual Beauty and The Beast-style getting to know each other or seeing behind the grizzly facade. What about an attempted "rescue?" Or maybe you could thread out a scene where the prisoner runs away from the society they were forced back into and returns to their beloved beast! It's all up to you. You could even do smut if you wanted to, but this isn't a smut meme.

In hindsight, Cora knows that it was both childish and reckless to try to run away in such a manner. She didn't have the means to protect herself properly and only had a basic understanding of fighting. Not nearly enough to survive out there alone. But she had hated being confined like this, being stuck with this monster. A golden cage was still a cage, after all. But despite how much she clearly despised Ethan, he had still saved her from the wolves outside. She could be dead by now. The more rational part of her mind told her that ought to thank him for saving her life at the risk of his own.

But as she sat in silence in the safety of what had been her "home" for many months now, she couldn't quite bring herself to do it yet. A mixture of pride and shame kept her from doing so, and it took her an embarrassingly long amount of time to even meet his eyes. "You're... not hurt, are you? Can you get hurt?" She was uninjured herself save for a few scratches, and she didn't dare consider how worse it could've been had he not intervened.

"I can," he says slowly, because while he's pretty damn solid, he isn't completely indestructible. It takes a lot to injure him, but it can be done. He's not made of marble and even if he was, marble cracks, shatters.

"I think I'm alright."

A few wolf bites aren't going to sink him; they hurt a little, sting, but being what he is, he won't bleed out. Already it's slowed like cold molasses, the wounds beginning to heal over.

"Are you?" He'd told her there were wolves out there.

For the briefest of moments, she feels irritation flaring up -- and childish stubbornness that almost drives her to defend herself. But it fades just as quickly as it came, and in its place... she feels guilt. It could be worse for the both of them. Could be worse than a few bites, a few scratches. He wouldn't be asking if he wasn't -- in some way -- concerned. And if he didn't care at all, she wouldn't be sitting here.

Cora clasps her hands together tightly as she dares to look up at him. "Only a few scratches," She manages, feeling much more sheepish now that she's meeting his eyes. "They'll heal quickly. I -- ...I should thank you for saving my life. What I did was stupid. I knew it wasn't safe out there, and I still.."

She drops her gaze again as she trails off.
