Their own personal brand of justice

The Vigilante AU meme

An anon post about a swedish historical reenactor ridding the streets of crime

Whether they dress up in tights, or just have a keen eye for those in need, vigilantes exist to help. The law doesn't matter so much as doing the right thing. The right thing by <i>their</i> definition.

Whatever reasons they have for doing this,

How to:
1. Leave your character name, canon and preferences in a comment. A starter could help, but is optional.
2. Others respond

Optional prompts:

Scenarios:
1. Random encounter - someone's trying to do the right thing, and gets noticed. Placing a fake parking ticket on a car? Resetting someone's upturned lawn gnomes?

2. Tag team - your partner in vigilante justice. As you both set out to 'work' on the problem, how do you split up the work? Is this partnership new? A one time thing? Someone you've worked with a long time?

3. Go your own way - This has been reported for years and no one has done anything, you're fed up and how you're fixing it.

#. Free square - they saw a chance, they took it

How:

1. Friendly neighbourhood [ ____ ] - The small acts of trespassing to close open gates, freeing caught birds, rescuing earthworms, building rogue libraries, or dressing up passerbys. The small acts, small justices.

2. Part timer - They work when needed. Whether it is dressing up as a musketeer to escort students safely home against the hordes of the night, or using alternative resources to find that driver who sideswiped a parked car and ran off... you step in where officials drop the ball.

3. Full-blown action hero - Just like the comics.

4. Free square - you do what you want

Friendly Neighborhood Rain

[personal profile] livingmyths 2021-11-15 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
It was a lovely night and all of the little ones were healthy and had eaten, so Rain was free to wander. She'd untangled a crow from a string and then climbed over a fence to pet a poor dog who was barking from loneliness. She was halfway back over the fence when she saw someone watching her.

"Oh boy."

It's a tall figure dressed all in black leather crouching on a balcony above her. The leather is studded with a few things that look wickedly sharp and the figure is hooded. It tilts its head as it watches and a deep voice speaks from the hood. "You shouldn't be out this late."

"You're out this late," Rain pointed out as she clambered down the fence onto the sidewalk again. She put her hands on her hips to look up at him. "'Sides, I'm most always out and about at night."

Especially if she didn't have a safe place to sleep that night.

"I have ways to protect myself," the hooded figure replies without moving. "Do you have that same protection? This is not a city that is safe for the innocent."

"I look out for the littles on the street," Nell told him, not sure why she was arguing with a black ghost person. Maybe because there were things he didn't know.

"Nowhere is actually safe, you know." Rain knew that. More than most, maybe.

"I am aware," the shadow replied quietly, "it's one of the many reasons I walk the streets at night." The deep voice carries a hint of sadness. "It distresses me to hear there are children on the streets tonight." The shadow shakes its head. "This city was supposed to be the shiny beacon for others to look up to and it has followed the same path as the others around it."

"There's always littles on the street," Nell said sadly, "But sometimes the street's better than their other choices. And I watch out for them. And for everything else that I can manage."

She looked at him anxiously. "But I don't let just anybody know, so please don't tell."
