(What a normal day it has been. Ren hasn't got much to worry about this time around, and that in itself feels like a miracle with how busy he's been these past few months. Heists, plans, homework... The life of a modern thief is nothing short of complex, and Ren is grateful for days like these, when the worries of his heart can take a step aside and he can enjoy the wonders of Tokyo with his not-cat.

Today's choice is cinema, and Ren waits in line for his soda while he takes a popcorn or two of his order-- until he sees the blonde. Listen, usually, he's much smoother than this, but there's just something about her... All his life, there's been a subtle mark on a wrist - delicate snowflakes. Xingchen never thought to question why it's there, but every so often there's a story he hears about soulmates, and tattoos that indicate something about the wearer's fated one. And it makes him think of the mark on his wrist.

Those are the stories he likes, that make him smile. But none of the disciples he meets are like the beautiful snowflakes, and so eventually, he requests to leave the mountain in search of his soulmate. He earns permission, and heads down the mountain into the world. Both to find his soulmate, and to do as much good for the world as he can.

A quiet, cool voice in one particular village catches his attention, making his heart leap before moving to try and catch a glimpse of who the voice belongs to. His wrist feels cold!

[There's something weird about Hifumi. He knows this, has always kind of known this, but ever since his 25th birthday, he's been absolutely certain. He's a disaster of a human being, unlovable, with only one friend and a host (hah) of issues he'd rather ignore. That's how he sees it. See, on one's 25th birthday, one develops the mark that blooms over time into the calling card of one's true soulmate. It starts small, and it grows as love grows, into something brilliant and beautiful. Most people end up finding their soulmate and marrying rapidly after the revelation.

Only... Hifumi is the only person he knows who doesn't have a mark. Doppo's showed up right on time, a little swirl of colors in the shape of an origami pinwheel. The colors have darkened since its appearance, and the picture has turned into a lovely scene on Doppo's lower back. Hifumi has seen it dozens of times.

Hifumi... doesn't have a mark. Not so much as a speck. It's totally superstition, or at least he thought it was, that people who were incapable of love or of being loved would never develop the mark. People who were destined to be alone simply had no mark at all. But... he's never met anyone or even heard of anyone without one in his entire life. And what's more, he's ashamed of it. Deeply. He doesn't want to burden Doppo forever, no matter how much he loves being his roommate and them having adventures in their silly bachelor lives. Seeing Doppo's mark become so breathtakingly beautiful over the years has made him beyond despondent, because all it means in Hifumi's mind is that Doppo has someone. Someone he sees, someone he's been building a bond with. He has someone Hifumi doesn't know about, and won't ask about. The mark that Doppo has is this elephant in the room, and Doppo is the only person who knows Hifumi doesn't have a mark.

He tries not to let it bother him, that Doppo will leave him soon, that he'll be alone. But this morning, on the way out of the door, Doppo mentioned he wanted to come home on time for once to talk to Hifumi about something. He said it offhandedly, so it could be as simple as a grocery request. However, Hifumi has it in his head that this is it. Today is the day Doppo reveals all, tells Hifumi he's in love, and announces they're parting ways. By the time 5 o'clock rolls around, the apartment is spotless, Doppo's clothes are all clean and hung up, dinner is on the table... and Hifumi is on the couch, curled up into a nervous ball.]

People wondered why Lan Wangji was always so stiff and silent, unless he really had something that needed to be said. It was rumored that he just didn't care, or that he was so strictly raised that he didn't believe communicating to be necessary.

The truth was something far different. A running monologue in a voice not his own, but that wraps around him as a sense of security. Of need. Stories told him what it meant, that the voice belonged to his soulmate. Finally hearing it at an archery competition...left him even more mute than usual. Staring after the boy with the red ribbon with a dark and forbidding expression. He'd later acknowledge that he'd handled that meeting poorly.

Finding Wei Ying in the Cloud Recesses for learning did nothing to ease his uncertainty. So naturally, when off balanced, he heads for the Cold Springs. Surely no one will bother him there.
