First Words

THE FIRST WORDS

You'll never forget the first words they said to you, your soulmate. They spoke to life the first line of what would become your great love story.

How romantic! "You're beautiful." "Pass the ketchup." "Your shoelace is untied." "PUT YOUR HANDS UP OR I'LL CUT-"

Okay, not all stories start off on equal footing, but this one is yours.

how to play
+ Comment with your character, preferences, and a random line of dialogue.
+ That's the first words, as serious or as stupid as they are, your character says to their true love.
+ The folks responding? You guessed it, the poor saps lucky souls who will, eventually, get into a romantic relationship with this tire fire.
+ Who knows how that happens? It might take years. Right now, don't sweat it.
+ Just dialogue back and forth.

You...you ain't had trouble with him here? [Poor kid thinks he's just in another part of the place he came from. Cricket has never traveled far from home, except on runs with Jack, and there is no sightseeing involved then. For all he knows, he's just in a weird village at the other end of Franklin County.]

I work for the Bondurants. Just, you know, minding th' waystation mostly. [And the stills, but you don't talk about those. It's an open secret that real moonshiners do not speak of, because of reasons.] They ain't been paying him off like he wanted, so he's been leaning on them for months.

I got caught. Figured he wanted to send a message. [He fully expected to come away bleeding, but it's weird that he's not. He feels fine. No bruises or anything.]

[ Ah. Enoch softens. ]

Can't say he's ever crossed these parts, [ he rumbles. ] Neither him or those Bondurants. It sounds like you've come a long way from home, child. Sorry about that.

[ There's a slight shift in the way some of the villagers look and whisper to each other. Poor thing, they say. Targeted by a corrupt deputy? Look at him, shame on that man. Sending that child here, of all places... ]

It ain't all bad. If it's a place to rest and sleep that you wanted, we got room. If you wanted to stay, well. We got room for that too.
