Choo choo motherfuckers

There's someone you need to meet, somewhere you need to be, or maybe you're just going wherever the wind takes you today. It could be early in the morning or late at night. Time doesn't really matter when the trains are available around the clock. Whatever the case you can guarantee there will be others waiting with you or already along for the ride, and it could very well be a long one.
Hopefully you've brought some company or an activity to keep you busy until the next destination. But if not, you can always make a new friend along the way.
scenarios
- WAITING GAME: It seems you've arrived at the station ahead of schedule. You could be waiting for the train or maybe for someone to show. There's plenty of time to spare either way. Why not use it to catch up on some reading or grab a bite to eat or ask for directions? Feel free to explore around the building too, and you just might find someone who's as bored as you are.
- TRAVELING TOGETHER: Did you agree to meet up with someone before the ride? A friend, a date, possibly even someone you just met? Or maybe you had no choice in the matter. For better or worse the two of you are making the journey together, wherever you're headed. Hopefully you'll be able to find something to do or talk about to pass the time.
- ROOM FOR ONE MORE: All the seats appear to be taken except for one, or maybe you just wanted an excuse to sit by one person in particular. They could be someone you've met before, or a total stranger you'd like to get to know, or it's possible you actually know them and this train ride just turned into an unexpected reunion.
- UNITED OR REUNITED: Whether you're the one who rode the train here or the one arriving at the station, or you both took separate trains to the same place, you're anxious to see each other again after a long time apart. Though under special circumstances, this could actually be your first time meeting. Were you dreading this moment or is it everything you hoped for?
- WILDCARD: Choose your own adventure.

He could never sleep on trains. The movement kept pushing at his senses, setting off instincts. Besides which, the regular sounds blended too much, in his mind, into the regular noises of the cycling mechanical parts at the front.
Not that he wasn't tired. By all that was holy, he was tired. He was returning from a brief leave to Bavaria. His father...couldn't understand. Couldn't understand where the brash, boisterous boy who had left, four years earlier, had gone to. Couldn't comprehend the old man with cold, calm eyes had come from. Home felt...wrong. Too pretty, too much like the old stories. He could barely sleep there.
And here he was, heading back towards France, back towards the killing fields. All around him he saw the signs, too. The exhaustion in peoples' faces, the grim spectre of hunger over the land. The war was lost. And yet, here he was. And yet.
He lit a cigarette, shaking out the match after watching it burn for a moment. Did he have much longer? Or was he like the match? Did it matter?
[Present]
The future was strange to him. But it was...bright. Oh, there were such great challenges; challenges he could never have comprehended, battles of the figurative sort that had to be fought. But the cities, in comparison, shined. They rose higher and higher, beautiful and covered in glass. And perhaps best of all, it was how the world had mixed together.
He stood on the platform, watching a pair of students go by. What corners of the world had they come from, he wondered, or their families had come from? What stories were behind their laughter, their smiles?
He felt so apart. He was a sombre man of forty-nine, wearing a suit in an old cut. He had survived two World Wars - and then...fallen through time. They had termed it a 'portal event', or some such. Not that he understood it. But here he was, observing a future - a future he was delighted to see but wondered if he could ever be a part of.
He sighed, turning his head towards his minder.
"You realize I will be fine, 'out in the wild.' I survived your American air force, I can survive a train trip."
Present
She pauses, taking a sip of her coffee and crinkling her nose slightly at the bitterness.
"Magic's tricky. Without knowing exactly what caused it in the first place, it's hard to know whether or not it'll happen again."
Re: Present
How had they made such things ordinary? Routine?
It was a thought that, for the moment, delayed his response by a second. "Magic," he repeated, with a slight sound of disbelief. "I would have called you a liar or a fool if you had told me this any other time - and yet, evidence of my eyes and all that."
He reaches into a pocket, pulling out the packet of cigarettes. Then, as one is already in his mouth, sees the 'no smoking' sign. With a sigh, and a muttered curse in German, he replaces it in the pack.
"I fail to understand why I was the target of it. Or the one chosen by it. I cannot think I was of any importance to it."

The PA lets out a soft chime, followed by a tinny-sounding, pre-recorded warning to keep back from the edge of the platform. The click-clack of the approaching train grows louder.
"Your life runs through a lot of big historical events, Hans." She says, glancing over her shoulder towards him. "There's power in that all by itself, but it also means that a lot of people know your name. Maybe they want to change the flow of events by taking you out of the equation, maybe they want to pull you out of the way of something bad ..."
She pauses for another sip of her coffee. "Hell, maybe someone was messing around with stuff they shouldn't have and just decided that they really wanted to meet you."

"I never wanted fame," he added, looking for the approach of the train. "And if they are attempting to alter history by removing me, they will be deeply disappointed. If I represent anything, it is the futility of war."
The latter possibility has him shaking his head. "For the love of God, I hope not that last. I am aware of the people who believe there is some...glamour to war, to history. It is a disturbing thing indeed."
