There's a ringing in his ears. He's pretty sure there's blood on his face. His chest hurts in a way that feels very much like something's badly bruised or broken. The young woman he's guiding is talking to him, he's pretty sure, but he can't listen to her now. He's got to stay focused; make sure they aren't being followed, make sure he knows where they are.

He's turning down yet another side street to make sure they've lost anyone following them when realizes he knows exactly where they are and breathes a sigh of relief. He has to turn away from the woman to jimmy the door into the back room of the Musain in the way the Amis have taught him to, but it's fine because he can pull her in to safety soon after. It's late enough that no one who isn't an Amis will be there to see them come in; late enough that the majority of the Amis won't be there, either.

Then again, Enjolras has always been an exception to the things most people do.

A for old bestie

Working in the same room is old hat, by now. They've spent a lot of time writing in one another's vicinity, in silence or surrounded by noise. They know one another so well, it's often seemed like they've the same brain.

Which means that when Combeferre gets to the point of pulling at his hair, trying to remember a word, he waves in the general direction of his best friend even as he continues frowning at what he's working on.

"It's-- What's the one-- You're like-- diligent and thorough, but there's the wanting to be doing what's right. Might start with a 'C'?"

B for strugglebus VERY early vampire times

He's with Enjolras on the first anniversary of the Barricade. They cling and breathe through the hurt together as best they can while still learning one another. He has nightmares when he finally falls asleep, but at least Enjolras is there when he wakes up.

All in all, he thinks he does quite well for himself. Which is why, when things finally do crack, a few days after the anniversary, he feels like he's justified in finding his way to the pub nearest to where they've been staying.

It takes so much more to get him anywhere close to the level of staggeringly drunk he wants to. That's likely why he's only just starting to drift into belligerence when Enjolras finds him.

"Don't-- fuss, Apollo, I won't get so bad I-- pass out in the ditch. I'll head home when I'm done, so you can go."

He very much needs him to go.

[ Five is awake before his family. As usual. He's on his last cup of coffee, and as he paces down the hall he makes a note to stock up one last time before they head out. Who knows when they'll find somewhere else that sells it. His siblings should be doing what he's doing, checking supplies and getting ahead of the crowd. He's been patient after what their last battle took out of them, but if they don't check in with him in the next ten minutes, they'll be in for a rude awakening.

So much has happened in the past few months, but compared to the two-week dash through time to stop two apocalypses, it's been unbearably slow to make any progress. He's managed to find most of his siblings, but there's been far too many distractions and he's not even halfway to figuring out the math to get them home again.

The wolf catches his immediate attention when he rounds a corner, and he scowls as he nearly spills his cup. He notices a girl nearby it who doesn't seem all that concerned by its presence, so he can only assume it's her pet.

He's seen her around, but can't recall her name. His note-taking on their group has become embarrassingly out-of-date. Partly because they'd wised up enough not to spread their life story anywhere it could be overheard. On the one hand, it was a good sign that they could learn from past mistakes, on the other it was inconvenient to have to find out about them by speaking to them in person.
