[ It's risky, meeting like this. As far back as Silas can remember his family has always hated the Trosts, but as a child it never seemed that bad. Perhaps he had been blind to it, insulated as he was from the outside world, nose always in a book and eyes staring up at the sky. Growing up meant more responsibility, though, and as the heir to the Dengdamor throne he was privy to more and more talks of strategy, invasion, defense, war.
He hated it. He never saw any reason for the fighting beyond plain stubbornness. But one word of that to his mother and he'd be sent to his room, shamed and guilted for his lack of honor, or loyalty, or whatever else she thought he didn't have enough of.
The one thing that keeps him going, despite the fears creeping further into his mind each day, is Panto. They'd met as children, during one of their families' rare peace talks, before everything dissolved, and after that they continued meeting up in secret. At first it seemed harmless, but now Silas knows it could spell disaster for both of them if either of their parents were to find out.
So they keep their visits brief, hidden beneath moonlight and stars, tucked away in secret places only they know - little spots they'd discovered as kids, things like that. With Panto, Silas can forget how heavy life feels. He can talk and laugh and sing little songs, never worrying about being looked down upon for being too soft or having trouble with his scissorsword. It's simple, and good, and that's it.
Except that Silas can't keep his heart from racing tonight, can't stop his palms from sweating. Even as he slips into their secret grove (it's little more than a clearing in the woods, really) he can't manage to shake off his nerves. You see, Silas has a problem:

A bird in the hand? [ he calls out quietly, the code they've always used to ensure their privacy; he tries his best to sound normal, but there's a slight tremor to his tone that he can't quite hide. ]

There's detailed information on her journal, but Perne is a mostly sarcastic woman, a bit cold and unwelcoming on the outside, suspicious, potentially paranoid. Not much of a romantic she'd say, but very inclined toward poetry and song.]

[just checking that this'd be your cuppa before I go slinging some elaborate starter at you; I was thinking that Dimos could have been gifted to Perne as a mammet bodyguard of sorts (mammet because she's only ~minor~ nobility and he's disposable/repairable, naturally), and besides being constant company, he's also been a captive audience to her love of the arts?

Finally, though...finally he brings the news of a massive victory. The feast and celebration that follows was expected, and he's surrounded by far too many people. Only when he can slip away without arousing suspicion does he, moving within shadows to where he's often found his king.
He'd been drinking - of course he had - but he's a man who can hold his liquor unless he was aiming to knock himself senseless. Not tonight. Tonight he has other plans. He waits for the beauty that steals his breath away just by existing. Then slips up to claim his hand, gazing softly into his eyes without a word. If there's a little upward curve to his lip, well. Can he be blamed?
