[ Ranger isn't capable of feeling pity, though he doesn't perceive as much. As any good human would be, he's wholly unaware of the shortcomings that his "parent" imparted in him. But despite these rigid limitations, his AI works as intended - it's adaptive to an almost frightening extent, as malleable as the human mind, allowing him to even form some limited capacity for bonds and attachments - if not with humans, at least with other AIs.
Perhaps that's why this project first caught his eye. It was just a prototype. A sad, imperfect run of the baseline system that would later be used as the foundation for the company's other projects. Why it was a failure, Ranger isn't quite sure - logically, he understands that the erratic and unpredictable nature of the program let to a variety of concerns about whether or not it would be practical for their purposes, the possible threat... And so on and so forth. As though that, too, wasn't part of their aim in creating in a true human being.
But he had been curious and, having the knowledge, found that text commands were adequate to communicate. A sentient program. An AI, but of a different sort. Interesting
He doesn't care. Not in the traditional sense. But Ranger thinks about her a lot, about Monika. He thinks quite a bit about her sad existence, which would be erased before long He thinks about the empty vessels - one of which had even been prepared in the event that her testing had been a success - that lay unused in the facility.
He doesn't hate being around her, though, and that's something... Though, well, he supposes he shouldn't be interacting with her. Well, nothing that can be done about things like that - if they didn't want employees to have access, they shouldn't have allowed it.
So without worrying overly much about the consequences, he sifts through the program on one monitor an watches the interaction on the other. Honestly, it's a pain to communicate this way, but it feels more comfortable.
He clicks at the keys. His communications are always relatively pointed, a stark contrast to the dramatic gestures and phrases he normally uses, and today is no exception: ]
// Yo.
// You can't just become human. You understand that, right? It's not happening.
// You still wanna be a part of a world like that?
[ Can she even comprehend what that means? Ah, maybe it would be less cruel to delete her after all... But he leaves the choice there regardless of that, for reasons he can't quite pin down. ]
